Unauthorized billing
Capitol One Credit Cards billings are manipulated and charged over the limit fees when accounts are not over the limit. The over the limit charge does however take you over the limit and hense another over the limit fee is then charged. This has been happening the past couple of months since I called asking the my interest rate be reduced. I was told it would be if I had no over the limit fees.

I have watched my statement carefully online and just checked the statement a couple of days ago and still had a small available balance. My credit limit is $5, 000. My balance now is $5, 021.76. It went over the $5, 000 limit when the $39.00 over the limit fee was charged on 10-25-08. Look at the balance and when the only recent charge was the $39.00 to see that my balance couldn't have been over the limit when my account was accessed the $39.00 fee.

I like other Americans are struggling to keep up. I try and make more than a minimum payment every month. These type of company practices are what has helped put this country and our economy in the state it's in. Why isn't something being down to stop them.

Scam charges
I have had a Capital One card for several years. My credit line started at $300.00 which I paid on time every month. I needed an increase, so Capital One increased my credit limit to 700. Again, I made my payments on time every month. My husband lost his job and we found it more and more difficult to make the payments.

I called Capital one many times and tried to explain that we could not make the min payment and could we work out a workable solution - I was told Capital one does not do this. I told them if we couldn't work out something -it would end up going to a collection agency - in which it did. I wrote back the collection agency and told them my situation and asked again for a workable solution - again nothing.

I was getting medicine for my daughter and used my debt card to find out it was declined. I called my bank to find out why it was declined and found out that the attorney that is representing Capital One had frozen all of my accounts. I was NEVER severed with court papers and now stuck without any money to buy food, gas or medicine for my daughter. I called the attorney and he said basically tough luck. They froze everything with my name attached to it - which meant my daughter's bank account.

I told him the money he saw in my savings was for the mortgage. If we are behind one more month we will loose our house - he again said that's not his problem. As far as I'm concerned Capital One and the law office they use are crooks. I had to pay 1, 700 + for a 700 credit limit. IF ANYONE READS THIS - NEVER NEVER USE CAPITAL ONE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE WILL HOLD.

Scam billing
I had four credit cards, all with a limit of $1, 000 or less. I paid off all of my cards and notified the company, then moved out of state. I had a forwarding order with the postal service. I recently moved back and found bills for an annual membership fee and late charges that totaled over $500. I called the company and they said they had no record of me closing my accounts. They hit me four times for annual membership fees, plus late charges. There had been no activity on the accounts since I closed them.

I mailed written correspondence. I called their customer service three times. I was hung up on by one representative. Finally, I asked to speak to a supervisor. They agreed to make all the accounts $0. If I hadn't been so persistent and demanded they remove the charges, I would have had to pay the fees and had late charges reported on my credit report.

Scam billing
I am being held liable for fraud charges made on my credit card account. I have attempted to point out to them that my credit card has never left my possession and charges are of amounts that are of a value that all took place on the same day and at type of business I do not normally use credit card with (being supermarkets). Asked them to review my spending habits but no response other than I will be liable until I prove to them different. I have contacted police dept. of 1 of the cities where fraud took place which they advised me to also contact Federal Trade Commission.

I attempted to contact merchants where it all happened and they just refer me back to Capital One.

Bad service
Capital One No hassle Miles Card changed the terms of their earnings reward program with little communication. They halved the earnings previously earned for cash rewards rather than on a go forward basis that resulted in lost cash earnings.

Lost a customer
Capital One allowed a illegal charge to my credit card. I disputed the charge and they did a very poor job in checking the situation out. I had to take the company that made the illegal charge to small claims court where I received a judgment for the full amount. I would not have had to go through all this if Capital One would have taken a serious look into the situation.

I would recommend that anyone who has a Capital One credit card look for another card service provider. My credit score is over 825 so they lost a good customer.

Terrible service and company in hole
I found a couple of charges on my Capitalone credit card that were not written in the terms when I signed in online. First one is Payment protection service. It charged me 1 % of what I spent on the credit card. I found this charge on my third day and immediately called 1-888-527-6904 to cancel the service, so the damage was comparably small and was around $2, but if I was too late, the damage could be insane. The more you spend, the more you pay.

Second one is Creditinform service which charged me $5.99/ month. I found this on my second month, and called 1-866-226-3745 immediately. The phone operator surely agreed to cancel and refund. It's been three weeks since then, but I haven't received the refund yet. I called them again and they told me that it is in process and takes around one billing cycle (it means probably a month, but they can't promise...) to refund. I recommend asking the name of phone operator, confirmation# and when you can get the refund.

If you got a Capitalone credit card, first thing to do is to call 1-888-527-6904(Payment protection) and 1-866-226-3745 (Creditinform) to cancel these things in advance unless you want these services. Don't forget to ask his/her name and confirmation#, and watch your online account at least twice a week to make sure that there is no other unexpected charges. The customer service was quite annoying. Probably the phone operators are paid for taking at least 5 minutes to tell you all merits of these services, so be patient if you can.

I am going to cancel this card. I can not trust them after these two unexpected charges and am tired to watch the online statement everyday and calling the customer service every week, too much work just to make it right. One more thing, their due date of payment is very random. I asked them the rule of the due date, but they could not tell it. If you enrol to online statement, they don't give you any notice and the due date just sneaks up randomly. I asked them to e-mail me to notify the due date though, the answer was No. My other credit cards do this though I didn't ask. That's another reason that you have to check online statement pretty often.

Ripoff
Consumer beware...Capital one loan and credit card, started as a low interest rate and very good company to borrow money from.(At least I thought).
It started when I went on Vacation and I was blocked from using my Capital One, credit card.I was never over the limit and always paid triple on the account.
Out of no where, the interest rate was double ...I paid the balance off quickly, only to find out they wanted back interest.The interest had gone from 9.65 to 26.6%.
This company is not rational and should have been regulated, to stop practices like this.
I called and told them to take the card and cancel it and I also found to my surprize, a better interest rate with my Bank on a loan.
The consumer needs protection and should be protected from outragous companies, like this.
Just beware of Capital One.I'm sure we will be reading a lot about them.
Can anyone tell me if Capital One is American based company and why the Government doesn't step in and get control of businesses, that tries to rip the consumer off?
I haven't figured out why a business like Capital One, would want to run away, someone in good standing...

Worst credit card ever
The worst credit card I ever experienced. I applied for their credit card with 1 year 0 apr promotion which would expire in November. But they began to charge finance fees in August. I called them in August and they credited back the finance charge and their manager admitted that 0 apr should expire in November. However, I noticed they still charge finance fees for September statement. I called them again, but they told me that 0 apr had expired in August and the last credit back was only courtesy continuation of the promotion. They could do nothing for me but apologized. I did not keep the offer letter and they don't admit what they said. I was really pissed off, paid off the debt and closed the account immediately. Never Never apply for capital one credit card no matter how good the promotion looks. They cheat on customers and try to stole money from you. The customer service is very terrible.
