We were contacted by Nancy Rosen, a loan rep with Capital Venture Investments on 12/10/08. She said we were pre-approved for a loan but first we had to wire money to William R. McCollock, a 3rd party lender and a member of the National Angel Organization Angel Investor Network. We were to wire $1089.99 via money gram to Mr. McCollock in Halifax Nova Scotia. The first transfer was on 12/22/08. After the money was received Ms. Rosen called us and told us an additional $1089.99 was needed to secure insurance on the loan. This again was to be wired to Mr. McCollock. We wired $500.00 with the understanding that Capital Venture Investments would cover the remaining $589.99. The second transfer took place on 12/23/08. Ms. Rosen told us to call her with the moneygram reference numbers and as soon as the transfer was confirmed she would call us and let us know that the amount of the loan was on its way to our account. We had spoke with Ms. Rosen multiple times about our concerns over wiring the money to Canada but she assured us over and over that this was not a scam and she gave us her personal guarantee that we would indeed receive the money. The confirmation call never came, when calling Capital Venture Investments the call is picked up by voicemail, messages are not returned, emails to them are not returned and their website is no longer available.
