Back in mid December, I received a credit line increase on my Capitol One credit card, shortly thereafter I received a letter from Cap One with checks to use to make it easy to use the increase. I did and wrote a check in late december for $1000 to a company. About Jan 24th, I received a letter from Cap One that they had made an error and the credit line increase in December was somehow doubled in error and that they had reduced the credit line - 2 days later I received a notice from the company I had written the check to that it had bounced! I can understand making an error but they should honor committments. I contacted Cap On their "Secure" email many times and all I received was "sorry and tough" replys. I am 60 years Old and have never written a bad check until Cap One came along. I have taken care of the bad check and have also filed complaints with the Attorney General.. All I can say is If you get a increase from Cap One, Never use the checks - they will turn you into a criminal bad check writer!

Do NOT use Capitol One Credit Cards. In January 2009, my husband paid a company a partial payment for a building he was having constructed with our credit card. He had previously paid two other amounts to the company by cashiers' check. We have a statement from them showing two amounts were paid and the total that was due. The company changed hands and in May 2009 they charged our Capitol One for one of the amounts that had already been paid without any authorization from us since it wasn't due. They just used the card number from the January transaction. Unfortunately my husband paid it with cashier checks and didn't keep a copy, however, we had the statements showing it was paid. We never authorized anything on our credit card except for the one amount in January. In June 2009 the same company but with a different name charged another amount to our credit card. This was fraudulent and unauthorized use of our credit card. It would be no different than someone stealing my card from my purse and using it. When I protested and sent Capitol One numerous documents, including an e-mail stating that the company had received the money, they still gave the company the money and charged my account. I am going to seek legal action to fix this because none of my calls or letters have been successful. They just continue to let anyone charge unauthorized charges on my card. Even the company names aren't the same but that doesn't seem to matter to them. By the way, I changed my credit card number so they couldn't charge on the old one again, however Capitol One changed the charges to my new number so that helped a lot too. Do not use Capitol One!!!

I received a bill with an over the limit fee of $29 along with a $56 membership fee so I paid off the balance in full and called to cancel my card. A month later I get a letter stating that my account will stay open for 2 consecutive months before it closes and if there are any other charges on the account, (the account that I specifically asked to be closed a month earlier) the account will remain open and membership fees will continue.

THIS KIND OF POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS WHY I CLOSED MY ACCOUNT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND WHY CAPITOL ONE HAS LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. My wife was also charged an over the limit fee for going over her limit by 56 cents and has canceled her account and WILL NEVER BANK WITH CAPITOL ONE AGAIN.
