Capitol One makes taking the Stonebridge Credit protection plan mandatory for a low rate. (It is in the fine print when you get 9% guaranteed for a year and they start deducting. If you call to complain after the first charge they tell you your rate is 31%. When you lose you job, they will not accept the forms from unemployment as proof of loss, they wanted a signed letter from the previous employer who had lefrrt the country. After going round and round with them, they finally said the filing window passed and I was out of luck. Then Capitol One said they could not negotiate a settlement until the account had been without a payment for six months (this is on tape) after six months they sent the account to THEIR collection agency who wil not talk to Stonebridge and want huge penalties paid and are threatening to take myhouse (they can't do that in Illinois.l They call at all hours (again against the law) and just yesterday their rep said she had only seen ONE Stonebridge claim every paid. Since Capitol One owns the income protection plan and the collection agency, there is a lot of collusion. They claim the account was written off, but I continue to be charged 35$ interest. They want almost 10k for 2k of purchases!!! Three times after I tried to cancel the Stonebridge charges, they ended up back on the account. You hear about the big banks screwing you, but Capitol One has nothing on them.
