In August 2008 I received a "Pre Approved" loan invitation from Capitol One. I returned the application within 10 days, completed, with all requested information. On September 13th, 2008, I contacted Capitol One, and was told that the loan had been approved, the package was complete, and that I would receive the loan check by September 20th. The check did not arrive by that date, so I again contacted Capitol One, and received the same answer, only stating that the check had been mailed, and I should receive it in several days. When this didn't occur, and I again contacted the company, and spent over an hour talking to different departments; I realized that I was being given the run around. I then contaced a supervisor, who told me that everything I had been told up to that time was erroneous, and that the check, although the loan was approved, and completed, was not being processed, as it had not neen sent to the loan dispersement department yet. Another hour on the phone, and another promise to expedite the check...so I waited...nothing. Very frustated, and realizing that this company had no concept of customer care, nor efficiency, I made another try; I was told that a representative ( a manager) would contact me within 24 hours...three days later, I again contacted the company...I was greeted with congratulations, and that my loan check had been processed, and was being mailed the same day. The very next day, I was contaced by a supervisor and told that the loan was cancelled, there would be no check, and that my only choice was to re apply..when I inquired why I had been told all the lies, I was told that I did not submit the requested information in a timely manner...this was just too much, as I had kept my record of the mailed documents, and the USPS confirmation of the mailing, which proved that I had sent the info well within the required period. After checking the loan invitation, I discovered that I had, in fact, 35 days in which to submit the info. The very next day, I received the check in the mail, with a letter saying that the package had been completed, and that the loan was approved. I deposited the check the next day. Three days later, it bounced. So, here's a company that is so disorganized, so layered with incompetence, and so willing to lie to a customer, that I am not a bit surprised our credit industry is in its current crisis. To top it off, not one word of apology, not one follow up out of courtesy, not one effort to help me find out what was going on...and to quote at least three of their represenatatives...sorry thats in another department..we don't have any information, and we can't contact them, would you like their number...PS..they don't have a complaint department. I have waited, still waiting, for a call from a high roller in the company to assure me that this was a total screw up on their part...but I won't hold my breath. I wonder if a law has been broken...probably not..if we had a law to prevent this kind of treatment...oh well...just don't trust these guys.
