I made a reservation for a rental car with Car One Rental (http://caronerental.com) in Miami through Car Rental Express website (http://ww.arrentalexpress.com) for the period of Feb. 20 through March 2, 2011. I received a confirmation email shortly after on Feb. 7, 2011. My confirmation number was CARO-MIAM-903559. I called approximately a week before my travel day and confirmed that they did have my reservation. The reason for calling was due to a previous experience with car rental express website where the rental car company (Beach Tyrex in Miami) did not have my reservation. On the day of arrival at approximately 9pm (our flight was late and we arrived one hour after the original pickup time provided to Car One) and when I called the 800 number for pick up as instructed, I was told that they do not have my reservation, my reservation was canceled, they were closed for the evening and asked me to call back in the morning.
When I got to the hotel and checked my email, I saw a cancellation confirmation email sent to me on that day (my travel day) at 5:42PM from Mr. Marcelo Rebuffo at Car One Rental. When I called Car One on the next day, I got their voice mail and after several attempt and leaving messages, I never heard back from anyone. I also replied to Mr. Rebuffo's email and never heard back from him either. The original confirmation email from Car One Rental indicated their policy of "All cancellations must be submitted 72 hours prior to the pick up time to avoid the reservation or 50 USD will be apply as cancellations fee." which I was fully aware.
To me, it was apparent that Car One Rental over sold their booking and had no rental car for us when we arrived in the evening so they sent an email to cancel my reservation 3 hours before I arrive. I was flying from Los Angeles and was on the road all day. I would not and could not have canceled my reservation that day.
