I applied for a job here for an office assistant. and in this job market when they came back to me with a counter offer to be a verification specialist, I took it cause no one else was beating down My door for employment these days.
so I go through training and I noticed a few things weren't quite honest in the scrip that I am suppose to read to each person who calls in. I was told by the trainer that jobs posted on http://www.career-network.com/ for free. I later read the TOS on the site and found out that it says employers have two payment options.
I chalked it up to the trainer not the company and started working from home. I would get paid $15 for every lead that I generated for http://www.uscareerinstitute.com/. that meant that I had to get to the bottom of the page and give out the phone number for the career institute AND that person had to call the number AND agree to be contacted by schools to be counted as a lead. course the online/phone orientation stated that the job paid $12/hr plus bonuses. when I got to the interview I was told it was paid per lead and to rest assured that the average is 3 leads per hour. the most leads I was able to get in a DAY was 3 for get about 3 per hour.
I got even more red flags during the first week. the week of training. but again I trusted. then yesterday, one of the ladies who called in asked about the company I worked for and I told her the name and location and she told Me that she just looked it up and found it was a scam. so I googled "career network scam" and to my surprise, there were pages and pages of returns...
one of the links I clicked on that results page told me that they post on craigslist and then send you out an email saying to go to their job board for the next step in the application process.
in the first week, while calls were coming in slowly, I searched My own number and sure enough I was in their data base. I had never heard of any of the three companies before I applied to work there... again I applied for a secretary position. but I had applied for jobs on craigslist before so I am thinking that is how I got in their data base.
ok I have said My piece.
