I just returned from a 3 weeks international mission trip. I called the police to report my car stolen and I was informed that my HOA had towed it. Why? I asked. HOA thought it was abandon (sat in the same spot too long). When I called my HOA, she had received complain (maybe from some one who wanted my parking spot) that the car has not been moved for some time. She said, “I am sorry I had it towed without taking the time to come see. I posted a 1 week towing notice on the car. There is nothing I can do about the charges, because it’s an independent towing company.”
There’s nothing in my HOA by-laws about parking limitation and we don’t have parking stickers. I was NOT illegally park and I had NO expired stickers. The cost is $500 plus $50 p/day. I live here 4yrs and never had problem before. These new neighbors who are moving in with 2 - 3 cars want to hog all the best parking spaces.
I spent all my cash reserve on vacation, missed 3 days of work and I am so depress I ended up in going to the doctor for chest pain, today. I retrieve my car get my car today, $850.
Why HOA has to be above the law? I have called every VA. Consumers State and City office and none would handle a HOA complain.
Having a homeowners car towed is far from an improvement. There has got to be a better solution to this parking and towing issue.
