Forgot to Deliver Furniture
I met with Designer TC and she was a great and consultant. I wanted to purchase bedroom furniture from the Martha Stewart East Hampton series, which was reduced as it was being discontinued by Carls. I negotiated a fair price with Linda the manager and agreed to a Friday delivery date.
I received a call on Wed stating the delivery driver would call me Fri am with a 4 hour window of delivery time. I received two emails the day before stating Friday was my delivery day and they would call to give me a better estimate the morning of delivery. The called and said between 2-6 pm. Great! They never called back, never came to deliver, or to say we need to reschedule.
I went back to the Carls warehouse and went around back to the loading dock Saturday morning. I found someone who was in charge and told him the story. He quickly told me that I was at the Carl's Patio loading dock and I had to go a little further down the drive. I asked if this is common practice to not deliver or call to alert the customer. He kinda chuckled and said they were two separate companies, Patio and Carls Furniture, under the same roof, but yes said it's kinda common over there.
I didn't bother going to find the furniture delivery group as I now wanted to meet with the manager. When I returned and found TC, she apologized and appeared to be sincere. She found the paperwork and said she would find out what happened when the warehouse manager arrived in the afternoon. I asked to speak with a manager and met with Bob. He apologized and asked if I still wanted the furniture. His first and only offer was to now waive the $99 delivery fee and $100 for my time and could re-deliver on Tuesday. I told him I lost a days pay as I'm commissioned waiting for his team. I didn't mind 4 hours off work, but their email said am and their drive said pm delivery, hence the full day off. I said I would like the delivery waived and $300 credit on the $3000 furniture order. He said no. When I mentioned the comments from the guy at Carls Patio, it struck a nerve with him because he went into a rant about how the break up between Carls Patio and Carls Furniture was really bloody, unfair, etc. Why is he confessing to me?? Hello Bob, are you new here?
Anyway, I thanked TC, told her I hope she didn't lose too much commission and got my credit memo which shows a full refund. Since they wouldn't process a real credit on my visa card like most merchants, I immediately disputed the charges on my card. These slugs don't like to give money back. Felt like they were little less scrupulous that Brandsmart, if you can imagine that.
Bottom line, I went to Baers furniture in Ft Lauderdale and ordered the furniture and they gave me a price mach based off the Carls invoice and 12 months SAC with 0%. Fred Friedman who used to run Carls is probably rolling in his grave to see how far this upscale wanna-be company has slid. At this rate they’ll be out of business soon. Buyer Beware

Design Department - Drapes
I ordered custome drapery from Carls over 6 months ago. My order totaled over $100, 000 for a complete house of new drapery and Hunter Douglas blinds. If you want lost orders, misplaced orders, unfinished orders, orders not completed on scheduled date, or delivery issues, installation issues, "no-call backs", and to top it off broken windows due to istallation Carls is the place to go. It has been 6 months and my master bedroom is still not finished, still have a broken window, and 4 blinds are still not installed. I called the manager and he didn't return my call. When he did, he gave some excuse that the sticky note was placed on the back of his computer, he then said he would look into the situation and call me the follow Tuesday, quess what! he didn't call...typical of Carls. My experience with the furniture did go smoothly thanks to a sales person named Leslie. My advice don't go to Carl's furniture.

Constantly moving delivery date
My wife and I decided to completely redo our bedroom including new furniture. We went to several locations and settled on a complete set from Carl's Furniture. The bed was a special order "From China" so we put up a sizable deposit. They gave us a 12 week estimated delivery time but we really liked the set so we accepted. From time to time they would call and try to deliver the pieces that where in stock and every time I would tell them I did not want them until the entire set was ready to be delivered. Not the first time this trick has been tried on me. After the 12 weeks where over I called them and they game me some excuse about ordering the wrong bed. They said it would be in within a week because it was "in transit". I called back in a week and was told that customs would take about another week. I called in another week and, would you believe it, the bed was "not in the container" but that they ordered another from North Carolina for me. When I asked why NC now but China earlier they said that it was cheaper for them from China but that "they would eat the difference for me". How sweet. When I asked them when the NC delivery would be they gave me some song and dance that "they would not tell them". I pressed with logic and they told me that they would call them back and find out. When I asked them what they would do different this time to extract the elusive NC shipping date that they did not try when they placed the diligent order they obviously had no answer. By now, my large deposit has been sitting on my credit card for close to 6 months and I no longer trust them so I tell them to cancel the order. They begin to tell me it will take 14 days to "process" the credit and I gave them 2 options. Roll over to the credit card terminal and process it immediately or I would contact my Credit Card company and begin proceedings for a charge back. I would then pass the information to my attorney for him to explore what damage, if any, where pursuable under the law. Miraculously they managed to credit my card within an hour. Never again will I do business with these people.

SLOW refund
As with any retail establishment, Carls was very quick to take my money. I paid by check. However, within 2 days, I decided to cancel the order, and rethink how I wanted to furnish. The furniture was not a special order; it was sitting in their local warehouse. It never left the warehouse. However, on the back of the receipt, in very fine print, was a notice that even my salesman wasn't aware of: if you pay by cash or check, it will take from 2 to 4 weeks to receive a refund. The salesman actually thought it was what all other stores state: about 10 business days. I was, of course, upset that this company would hold onto a customer's money for no other reason other than because they can. Turns out, the controller cut the check within a week, but the owner, Jeff Baker, held onto it until the maximum time elapsed. I received my check after about 5 weeks, which exceeded what the fine print said. Naturally, I took my business elsewhere after that, and spent $30k that Carls could have had if they had treated their customers like people they wanted to have return.
