On June 23. 2011, I visited Catalina Coffee Company in Redondo Beach to play a game of chess and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Unfortunately, I heard an alarming story on how the owner Ellen Brown of Catalina Coffee Company profiled and disgustingly treated a customer roughly. Catalina Coffee Company is serving up religious intolerance.
The woman was drinking water instead of coffee when the owner of the coffee company humiliated the woman who was a regular good paying customer. Ellen due to her arrogant attitude failed to notice or cared to understand that not everyone drinks coffee and tea. The woman belongs to a small religious minority that keeps a dietary health code. Ellen resented the woman having a free cup of water. California law requires any food serving restaurant to serve water to anyone asking. The woman explained that not only was she a regular customer who paid an automatic monthly debit fee for the Internet service the cafe uses but also does spend more then $10.00 there per day. The customer asked the three employees on duty to tell the owner who had been away from the premises for over a month that she indeed spent money there. All three of the employees denied the woman bought anything though they each has sold her salads, sandwiches, bowls of soups, and brownies numerous times. The employees sheepishly hung there heads shamefully and avoided eye contact. Many witnessed Giant Ellen's Gestapo actions toward the customer. Ellen Brown asked to see a months worth of receipts as she hounded the woman .
If one customer is asked to show receipts all should be asked. Though we all know nothing so crude should ever be done or would be done by a sane business owner. Ellen Brown is a strange hateful person, her and the three employees need to be reported to ACLU. This is poisonous trend.
Only a hateful bigot would single out a customer for coarse treatment and public humilation. Only cowards of the worse type would comply with an employer about a a good customer. The woman is white, upper middle class, and clean cut. Eryone should be treatesd with dignity adn respect. There was no clue to as why they would purposely hurt and casue her emotional distress. The woman carried a religious book in her purse but did not even have it out at the time of he attack. Religious intolerance is not acceptable in my book even if i don't want to read a religions book. This woman had the right not to drink coffee and read a book at the Catalina Coffee Company.
The woman stood up, bought everyone in the cafe a treat from the bakery in the cafe and told each and every customer what Ellen Brown Of Catalina Coffee Comapny was doing and politely left the premises.
I would appreciate that any and all customers of Catalina Coffee Company boycot this cafe at once never to return.
I look forward to the woman who was been harrassed seeing this complaint and contacting me directly with a reply as I will assist her with help from a consumer protection agency, ACLU and the Better Business Bureau. Please contact me at
[email protected]. What was done at the Catalina Coffee Company is appalling and vertain steps need to be taken.
