I am not sure if this is the correct catagory of compaint, DVD order rental, but it was the only thing closest to my compaint.
I was reveiwing my credit report when I came upon a collection agency. I called the collection agency to determine the nature of them being on my report. I was told that I owed a company called BMG Music because they sent cd's/dvd's to my home in 2005, however this is the first time I am hearing about this or the first time this has come up on my report. I called the collection agency and was given the address to BMG and looked the company up on the internet. To my surprise, the company appear to be going out of business. I located a phone number and talk to a woman and asked her why were they charging me $170. I was told that I reeived cd/dvd and this was the bill. I explained to her that (1) I never received or accepted any dvd/cd of any type thru the mail, (2) I never opened an account with that company. Morever, when I asked her pertinent information about myself, ex: my date of birth, birth place, charge card used to open the account; etc., she could not give me that information. I told her that I would never accept this type of item through the mail, let alone apply to it. I was then told that they was going to call the credit bureau to have them to drop the charge. Well they didn't, but what they did do was to send me a bill; the first bill I have ever received.
I need to know what can I do legally to have these people take this of my credit report.
any information will be helpful
thankyou
