Certegy Check Cashing System Reviews

MJ in IA August 3, 2009
Fraud and Check refusal
My name is Mary Jane Woodman-Brazle and I reside in Urbandale, Iowa.
I too have been flagged to write checks on either my joint account held with my
husband as well as my personal account both at the same bank.

My situation developed when I wrote a check at T. J. Maxx on April 5th, 2009.

Someone either at T. J. Maxx or it's depository bank, in this case Wells
Fargo. Took my routing and transit number and my account number from my
check and passed it along to someone in Chicago who encoded those numbers on
another personal check drawn on U. S. Bank in the account holder's name of
Jeremy D. Tyree of 9911 VanVlissingen, Chicago, Il.60617, using what I've been
told is a fraudulent Illinois Driver's License #6004-2487-328T. Those
check items began clearing my personal account and started overdrafting my
account as the thief wrote checks at various midwestern retailers in Illinois,
Indiana, Minnesota, etc.

My Bank closed my account after about a week and issued me a new account
number for my protection. I filed a police report with the Urbandale Police Department and the case was assigned to Detective Dwight Taylor case
#09-916.

After about a week I was informed that there were two other victims which
also had the same thing happen to them, one being my personal friend and
co-worker who I had been shopping with that day, Sonja Smith. Her account information was also released and encoded on checks being
passed in Texas. The third victim, we later found out was a secretary for a local attorney here in Des Moines. Since I do not personally know this
third victim, I will leave her name unknown.

About after the second week after the fraud began I was rejected from writing a check at Petsmart and instructed to call Certegy for more information,
which I did that same day. When I contacted them their representative was unable to tell me why my check was denied and told me he would send me an
application to again permit me to write checks. It took another two weeks to receive that application, but by then I was also denied check writing
priveledes at my own store of J. C. Penney's, where I have worked for five years. This still contines to this date!

When I called Certegy on the second denial at J. C. Penney's I was told that I was being denied check acceptance due to checks being passed at various
retailers such as Bed, Bath and Beyond, CVS Pharmacy and now I find apparently Marshall's (ironically also part of the conglomorent of T. J. Maxx). All these check items were fraud and all of the same instance.

Certegy instructed me that I would have to fill out yet another form, an Affidavit of Forgery. It took another ten days to receive that form and I completed that form and returned it to them along with a copy of the Police Report, an notarized statement from my bank, my social security number and driver's license, copies of the fraudulent checks that my bank could provide me and four referenced claim numbers provided by Certegy. I mailed this information back to them Priority Mail on June 4th and show they received it on June 8th @ 11:38 AM. I sent these items specifically to Mr. Orilles Eugene, Sr. Fraud Information Specialist of their Customer Care
Department.I called T. J. Maxx Corporation in April with my concerns and asked to speak to their security division and their customer service representative
refused to allow me to speak to anyone in that department.

I waited yet another two weeks and attempted once again to write a check in my own store at J. C. Penney's and again I was denied, but this time I was given a phone number to call within J. C. Penney's, a Customer Service number. When I called there they asked for my store number and associate number which I provided and when they found I was the one that had been denied check writing priveleges they checked to see if they had collections pending against me, which they did not. They again referred me to Certegy.

Once again, I called Certegy calling Mr. Orilles Eugene's extension where I received a recorded message that promised a call back within 48 hours. I
got absolutely no response from him or anyone else at Certegy. This was June 29th.

A life long friend, who happens to be an influential attorney in Oklahoma City happened to call me shortly after that time and when I told her this story,
she had me promise her I would contact the local U. S. Attorney's Office concerning the matter. I did so the following business day and was told the representative would call me back. After about a week I got a call back and was told to request that my Police Detective forward the case to them.

I went to see Detective Taylor to request the fraud case information to be forwarded to the U. S. Attorney's office and the F. B. I. Detective Taylor advised me that this case was insignifigant to the F. B. I. because they were concentrating on terrorist
activites and basically this case was "small potatoes", so I still am unaware as to the case forwarding request.

Again, yesterday, I attempted to write a check at J. C. Penney's and yet
again I was denied. Again, I called the J. C. Penney Customer Care number and again was given grief about calling on myself to inquire about the status. I was promised a call back which never came but was advised that Certegy had not cleared me for check writing privleges. So again today, July 31st, I called Certegy and again left a message for Mr. Eugene and again the recorded message was a promise for a call back within 498 hours. I then called Certegy Customer Service number and was told one of the claim numbers was not cleared but was given no other reason for that. Their representative said she would forward it on to someone fro more review and that hopefully I would hear back today, but that would depend on the authority of that person taking the request. I then called Penney's Customer Service
and they agreed to call Certegy on my behalf to see what they could do. They called me back and told me to call Certegy at a different phone number, which I did. According to Penney's Certegy could provide me a "password" to clear my name. When I called Certegy as directed I was told I would have to request the password in writing and that upon receipt of my better it would take another 10 days to 2 weeks to get it.Also please note that on June 22nd, 2009 Certegy had approved me for "Certegy Gold" status in check writing privildges, so how's that for Ironic?

I also called our State Attorney's Office, Tom Miller to see if they could assist. Again ironically the Consumer Fraud appointee was out of the office delivering a speech about consumer fraud so I had to leave my call back number for a call back on Monday.

Just thought you might be interested in this ongoing dilemna.
