refused check without cause
Refused to accept my check at Dollar General yesterday. My bank was nice enough to send the money to me at the store by courrier. But I cannot reach Certegy Check Services by computer or speak to anyone live by telephone to correct matters. A recording told me that they have a returned check, but I HAVE NO RETURNED CHECKS! I am older and disabled, and so very frustrated that I cannot get this error corrected due to Certegy being unavailable!

Using INNACCURATE Information to Decline Checks
DO NOT do business with any merchant who uses Certegy Check Services. Let me explain. I have had two checks denied at Petsmart three weeks ago and at Gamestop yesterday. Neither retail outlet could give me a reason other than to tell me they use Certegy Check Services. I contacted Certegy this morning and was told that there is nothing wrong with my financial history and that their system randomly declines certain check based on the risk management parameters they have set up. This answer was not good enough for me and I insisted on a more SPECIFIC reason for declining the check. A supervisor at Certegy told me to contact Early Warning Services because they provided info that led to my check being declined. Early Warning Services told me that I had a stop payment I had placed last month had be erroneously coded by my bank as a returned check and that I would have to provide a letter from my bank with complete account number, etc., or else I would have problems cashing checks for the next 6 months. I explained I had a copy of my Stop Payment Confirmation from the bank but they said that was not good enough. I needed a letter and it needed to be faxed (per Becky who would not give last name). I called my bank and they said there were NO returned items on my account, only the one stop payment, and that no error had been made on their part. They offered to write me a letter to that effect but said they would not fax it to Early Warning Services as they had never heard of the company before and didn't feel comfortable doing so. I have subsequently researched the internet and found out that Certegy is causing lots of problems for lots of consumers!! Before writing a check, ask if they use Certegy. If so, take your business elsewhere. This is what I am doing. I am also in the process of filing a complaint with the Attorney General of Texas. Please help out by being proactive and stopping these financial companies (many of who we bailed out) from taking advantage of the consumer. Ask which check processing service a merchant uses before writing a check. If it's Certegy, take your business elsewhere. Let's send a message to these companies reminding them that WE are the consumers and it is OUR purchasing power that drives the economy, not their ability to establish ridiculous anti-consumer guidelines.

Denied Check
I too, was a victim due to Certegy.
I know they probably don't care if their customer looses a customer, but their customer (Big Lots) lost a customer today because Certegy rejected my check. I had proper identification (D.L.) and anything else they might have wanted to prove who I am. So, in the future, I won't be shopping at Big Lots or any other company that uses Certegy. I was given a little card with a phone number and a code as to why my check was rejected. I was informed that it was for my protection to prevent fraud and etc. I was standing with people behind me and people beside me and everyone could hear that my check has been rejected. It was embarrassing and cruel.
There is a flaw with this system and it needs to be addressed and fixed.

Declined check
I would be very glad to join in a class action law suit against Certegy Check Services. This company needs to be made to explain to the public what they are doing with our credit. This is the most embarrassed I have been in a long time. I have worked hard my entire life to keep from this kind of thing happening to me, and there I was standing in the middle of Wal Mart, left holding a buggy full of merchandise, and even though I know I have the funds to more than cover the amount of the check, Wal Mart would not take my check. I work for a global service company that would be out- of- business in short order if we treated our customers the way Wal Mart is allowing this crank company to treat thier customers. This kind of treament, described in previous complaints and experienced by myself is absurd, not to mention probably illegal !!!

would not cash payroll check
Would not approve a payroll check to be cashed after Walmart had me to endorse the check. Reason #2.. I make more money than they (Certegy) would cash weekly. I feel that this violated my civil rights. As long as the check is legal, They told me it was, they had no right to refuse approval to Walmart... THey (Certegy) has no right to tell me or anyone else how much money they can make on a payroll check... I am looking for attorneys and/or firms to file a class-action law suite against Certegy Check Services.

state check declined
I received a LIHEAP check and attempted to cash it at Wal-Mart. The check is drawn on the State of Pennsylvania. Wal-Mart declined to cash it after running it through Certegy Check Services. I then tried phoning Certegy at the 866-6478 number and there is a recording. After you attempt to enter your id number, it states it cannot understand and hangs up. I called them at least a dozen times to no avail. If they don't allow a check drawn on the PA Treasurers office, who then will they approve checks for???? LUDICROUS

Decline Check
At walmart I was there to cash my work check as I always do, when the cashier told me that me that he couldnt cash the check and gave me a number to call. Upon calling the number all I got was a machine telling me that the check has been clear. So I try again and it wouldnt go thru. It was embassing to me because people was standing there waiting to so their business. I had to take it to a check cashing store that charges high rates to cash. I'm still try to take to someone at Certegy Cash Services

DECLINED CHECK
I just came from the grocery store that I always shop at. My debit card number was recently stolen so I have just begun to write checks again. I wrote a check to Bi-lo (store #550) maybe two weeks before for around $250 that went through just fine(the first check i may have written to a store in a couple of years) I even wrote the check for $25 dollars more than what I owed for the groceries! So I decided to start writing checks instead of depending on my debit card so much. I tried to write a check today for around $150 to the same store and was declined. It was very embarrasing. I was told I had to call a number if I wanted to find out why. When I did I was told that there were no bad marks against me I just don't usually write checks and it wasn't because i didn't have money in the account b/c they don't have access to that information. And they could not override the decision.I was just out of luck if I didn't have another form of payment. When I asked if this would keep happening if I wrote checks I was told in around about way that I could try the next day or two but I would be declined today. They could not give me a straight answer about any other day. I don't understand why I would be declined today if I wasn't declined the first time I wrote a check there for over the amount I owed. I was able to give them all the information they requested and had no bad marks so I should have been able to use my check or else why do I pay to get checks in the first place. On a side note when I told the assistant manager that I had my debit card in my car could I go get it and pay with that before they wiped out my transaction I was told "I could try". So it made me feel even littler because they thought I didn't have any money b/c I was declined. She looked really suprised when it went through right away. But I will not be shopping there anymore either. I am going to check out all the grocery stores around and find one that does not use Certegy check services.

Would not cash my Federal tax retun check
I went to Wal-mart today to cash my Federal tax refund check. The clerk input the information they need to cash the check. It was denied, and I was given a little slip, from Certegy Check Services, with reason number 3 as the reason they denied the check. The clerk entered it again, and same result. So I called Certegy (ultimately 3 times), and was told by the first guy, that this happens sometimes and he gave me instructions to give the clerk to try again. I hung up, we tried his way with the same result; reason 3. I called them again, got a different guy, and he said the problem was that my social security number did not match my name. Keep in mind, I've had this name (and of course SS # lol) for 16 years. I was told by him the problem was with Equifax (they provided the information), and that I should call them. I called, and was unable to talk to a live person unless I requested a credit report. So I came home, got online and did my annual free credit report to see if I could figure out the problem. Everything there was correct, so I called Certegy AGAIN, and got a different woman this time. She looked at everything and could NOT find a reason that my refund check was denied. I was then connected to a supervisor, who ultimately told me the reason the check was denied, was because SOMEthing about the check had sent a red flag up and tripped their fraud procedures and denied the check. I asked how could this be as it is from the US Treasury??? He told me that somewhere in their database, someone passed a fraudulent/bad check that had SOMEthing in common with my check. So they refuse to cash my check, and that's that! After doing some thinking, the only thing I can think of, is that when Walmart enters the check #, their program (Certegy) only asks for the last four digits of the check #. I think if they had been able to enter the entire check number, all would have been ok. But because it was only the last four digits, someone, somewhere in the world probably passed a bad check with those (the last 4) numbers on their check, so it spit mine out as fraudulent, based on that. Of course, the supervisor could NOT tell me what the exact reason was as it would jeopardize their fraud safety measures. So I am surmising it had something to do with the check number. That's the only thing it COULD have been. So I think Certegy needs to ask for the ENTIRE check number, so that this doesn't happen again. It was a horrible experience, as whenever a check is refused, all anybody sees is your red face walking away with no money...as though it is your fault. I hope this experience is helpful to anyone else out there, and will help change Certegy's practices (though we know THAT'S a pipe dream).

paycheck denial
attempted to cash my paycheck and was denied no reason given by merchant then called ur service was put on hold 41 mins i jus gave up reaching certegy by phone then tryed website also reason given for denial.Incidentally i was denied at merchant counter whilst my wife had grocery cart full. This so called service u offer is DISGUSTING & PATHETIC.There has to be laws that protect hard working law abiding citizens from companies like yours.
