Check fraud
On the last Sunday of January, 2011, I was the victim of a break-in. The thieves stole some checks and tried running up some bills. I visited my bank and took the appropriate action. Within the next couple of months, had a nightmare as various collection companies tried to collect. With the majority of them, a faxed police report and phone call, and that was it. Not Certegy...they wanted personal info, notarized copies, the works. Sent in the paperwork, still not satisfied. Fed up, I finally even had my bank type out a notarized letter, on top of the PD report and other paperwork. Have yet to hear from the jackals. Also got the runaround when it came to getting a live person to talk too...had to play number tag. On top of that, they harassed my mother, even though they had MY number on file. Have no love for this company.

Denied Transaction
Where to start. First - AVOID ANY RETAILER USING CERTEGY!!! I started using Murpay several months ago. It is a way to get a lower gas price at Murphy Oil locations by using there pay system and I can pay for my childrens gas with out having to hand them their own credit cards. It involves making payments directly from your checking account instead of a credit or debit card. It sounded simple. You set up an account and link it to your checking account. When you go to buy gas you text there system and they text back a code to enter at the pump. It all worked great for 3 weeks then one day my transaction was denied. Murpay tells me to call Certegy. Same story, they cant tell me why the transaction was refused, just it didn't fit their "risk model". It had worked fine for 3 weeks, account has at least a five figure balance all of the time, never had a bounced check and has daily activity. I pressed this issue for 3 weeks while I was denied a transaction verification everyday (stupid me). Finally 3 weeks ago after a long talk with a certegy supervisor that wasn't at an Indian call center (as everyone had been up to that point) it started working again. Worked again fine for 3 weeks then again yesterday quit working again. Once again the transaction didn't fit the "risk model" It worked the next day then 2 hours later when filling up a different car it didn't work. Without anyone being able to tell you why these transaction are being denied especially on an established checking account that has NEVER had any problem is absolutely crazy. Any retailer using certegy has to absolutely have their head up their a**, they are losing business!!! If you work for Certegy you should get your resume up to date, if they use those in India.

Inaccurate information on checking accounts
I just opened a new account with AT& T online. I did not like the refurnish phone, and decided to go to an AT&T store to exchange for a new one. Everything went well until I wrote a check $ 108.25, and my check was declined. It was the most terrible moment in my life when I was told that the check declined in front of many people. I wrote another check with different bank account, and it was declined also. I called my banks, and learned that my accounts were Ok. There were no any problems with my checking accounts. The only problem is Certegy Checking Services.
The receipts showed that I should call Certegy at 1-800-2374-851. Certegy asked me a lot of privacy information and account number, and said that they could not override my check. Embarrassed and worried, I went home, and researched about Certegy Check Services. It is the one “provides authentication and risk management services to merchants and businesses nationwide.”
I finally learn Certegy has had a lot of complaints about providing inaccurate information on consumers’ checking accounts.
The inaccurate information Certegy Check Services provides for AT & T store today has caused me a lot of damages. I have to cancel all of my credit cards and closed all of my bank accounts because Certegy told me that all of my checking accounts are locked. They asked a lot of sensitive information about my checking account in order to clear my checks. However, Certegy did not do anything to solve the false information they created.
I write this letter hoping that you will aware of the situation Certegy Checking Services may create in future. Please inform to your employees so they will be aware of the declined checks.
Bad experiences when using checks in your store, Certegy might be the barriers to prevent customers coming back to your business. Please take some time to think about this.
I will send this letter to the store maneger, and will file a formal complain with the Federal Trade Comminsion.

can not speak to a human
I was turned down for a debit card. When I try to reach them to find out the reason, they give me a couple of options, which have nothing to do with me, then they hang up.

Declined check
Went to Eastern Mountain Sports to buy my wife Mother's Day gifts totaling $421. Much to my surprise my check was denied. Clerk said they use Certegy and I might want to call them to clear things up. Called Certegy and was told that there was no fraudulent activity on my account or any bounced checks. They enter my check into their computer model and the computer decides whether or not you are a risk. A COMPUTER MODEL - WTF!!! Absolutely no basis what so ever. I was then told that in order to prevent this from happening again, I need to update my account and increase my check cashing limit???? What account and what limit???? Absolutely absurd! Needless to say I left the store with no presents, feeling like a dirt bag and probably looking like one to the cashier. Ridiculous! THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO GO!!!

check unacceptability
A check was submitted to the dealer, Suburban Chrysler in Novi, and the check was rejected. The reputation of the submitter is unquestionable therefore there was no valid reason to reject the subject check. Your company is operating without credibility and should be discredited and not used as a credible source for financial determinations - period!

refused a check
Filled up my truck early in the morning and paid by check no problem. Then when we got back in to town had to fill up again. This time my check was refused. when I called to 800 # all I get is a text about joining the group for $9.99 a month. This is very embarrassing. I have the money in the bank and even if I didn't I have overdraft protection. If a company is refusing your check then they should at least have a person answering the phone to explain why. If there is a law suit I would like to be listed.

unjustified declined check
Help Stop Certegy Abuse - File a report with the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357
I wrote a check that was also declined by Certegy when there were more than sufficient funds to cover it. My story is nearly the same as you will read over and over again on this site. I have never written a bad check and have spotless credit. After much research it seems to me that the best recourse I have found is to file a complaint with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) Their phone number is 1-877-382-4357 (1- 877-FTC-HELP). I was told if they get enough complaints, one of their attorneys will be assigned to open an investigation. So, it is VERY IMPORTANT that EVERYONE who has been unfairly declined my Certegy file a complaint with the FTC. The agent I spoke with was very nice and the process was fairly quick and simple. I think it is the best way to reign in an out of control Certegy.
PLEASE take a few minutes to make the call to the FTC and report what Certegy has done to you. Do you know that approximately 8.5 million people had their personal information stolen and sold by a Certegy employee? Do you know what the victims received as compensation for having to change all their bank accounts, credit cards and drivers licenses? Three years of free credit reports. My 82 year old mother was one of them. Please think long and hard before you call Certegys and give them all you personal information. They need to be stopped. If you have been unjustly declined by Certegy, PLEASEEEE, report the incident to the FTC at 1-877-382-4357
