CHECK DENIAL
I went to K-Mart today and wrote a check and was declined by Certegy. I was humiliated and felt like a fool in a line of customers. I wasn't declinded for "bad check writing", in fact I have no record of any bounced checks with any check verification companies. The automated system at Certegy stated it had something to do with my check writing pattern and that it was for my protection. REALLY??? COME ON!!! I called back and spoke with a live operator and all she wanted to do was send me a brochure on how I can elevate my check writing abilities with them. WHAT??? I write at checks at Kmart at least once a month. I have also written them at TJ Maxx and Marshalls and other places that use Certegy and have NEVER had this problem. My bank is in awe that I'd be declined for this absurdity. I was told by Certegy to use a debit card. Well, guess what? I don't always like to use it and most times it's because I've left it at home. I should be able to pay for something in any manner I please. How dare Certegy dictate what I can and can not do. How can they get away with this???????

Check declined
This is the second time my check has been declined by Certegy because of my 'profile'. They state that they only have a 13 month history on me and that is not sufficient to build a valid profile. Further they stated that until they are able to build a valid profile they will continue to decline my checks. I have had the same bank account for 15 years, and have been with the same employer for over 10 years. I have had no problems until last month when the cable company started using this service. I generally write three checks a month - one for my house, one for utilities and one for cable. Everything else I do is either by debit card or electronic payment. These three add a service charge for an electronic payment, so I write them a check.
I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but if I don't have sufficient activity to build a proper profile, and they will continue to decline my checks until I build a proper profile - how is that profile going to be compiled?!?

Declined check authorization!
For the second time in the last six months, our business check was refused at Office Depot in Selma, CA. They gave us a card with information to contact a company named CERTEGY, which handles their check authorizations. They would not tell us why our check was declined. They basically told us it would be declined every time we tried to shop there in the future. We have never bounced a check in 28 years of business. Obviously we will no longer be shopping at Office Depot. It appears that Office Depot does not care about the $3000 we spent with them last year, ALL WITH CHECKS!

Checks denied!
This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. My roommate and I had been cashing our checks at Wal-Mart since we gained employment with a local bakery in September of last year with absolutely no problems until March 8th, 2008. Both of our checks were declined. Of course that was upsetting especially since we have been doing it weekly for months now. We are both without a bank account and this used to be a very convenient way to cash our paychecks. Upon the denial of the checks, we were printed out a receipt with a phone number and very minimal information about Certegy, the company that provided the denial. It stated that if you wanted information about this transaction to call. So I did. The lady that I spoke to was very nice, she explained that it was not any fault of ours, and may never happen again, but that there was something that my employer needed to clear up and to have them call. As irritating as that answer was, I went with it and had to go somewhere else to cash our checks. then, for some odd reason we thought that there was just some fluke in their system and went back to try again the following week, especially since we were told that it may not happen again. Once again denied. So upon returning to work that next week, I informed my boss of the situation, despite wanting to involve them at all. She got on the phone with Brian, an extremely rude and unhelpful representative at Certegy, who informed her that we were feeding her a bunch of bull (in those exact words, too) and that there was nothing for her to clear up, but further into the same conversation, informed her that she needed to get a letter from her bank stating that their account is valid and that it is in good standing. The company I work for has been doing business with the same bank for 60 years!!! It is not possibly and rather unexplainable how their account can go from being valid to being in-valid in the span of 1 week. Certegy could not explain it either. Their only solution was a letter from my employers bank and then it would take 3 business days to clear up! I just cannot believe that this much hassle could come out of wanting to cash your check. It makes me curious to know if Wal-Mart is at all aware of the headache and inconvenience that this company is needlessly causing WAL-MART customers. I always shop at the store when I am done cashing my check and they are preventing me from doing that. I would hope that they would not want this to reflect upon their company, but to me it does because they picked them and continue to use them. I plan on making a formal complaint with Wal-Mart, Certegy, the Better Business Bureau, and anyone else I think should be aware of the crappy service that this company provides. Not only will I never cash a check through any company using Certegy again, I will also no longer be shopping at Wal-Mart, until something is done about it.

No reason!
Why was our personal checks declined at both Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target when we had over $9000 in the account? We will not shop at either of these stores again until someone can provide us with a valid explanation and formal apology. Judging from the other similar complaints, many retailers will lose a lot of business by using Certegy.

Refused check as payment
I couldn't find my debit card in my purse tonight so I wrote a check from my personal account for my purchases at K-Mart. In the meantime, I found my debit card and thank goodness I did because Certegy refused my check.
My debit card, which is actually my checking account, was accepted. This was embarassing to me. I don't understand why they refused my check and I have no way to contact them. I have never had a check returned and have over $7000 in that account. This incident helped me to remember that in December of 2006, my husband wrote a check to Northern Tool for over $1500 for a go kart and Certegy refused the check when I had more than enough in the account to cover that amount. My husband put the go kart on his Master Card which was a mistake. He should not have bought anything from that company. Hope someone out there knows a solution because this is actually a bad reflection on our credit.

Check denial
Yesterday I had my company's business check denied by Certegy at Best Buy. I got the same computer generated "excuse" that everyone else has gotten. There is no negative activity reported on the account, but in an effort to prevent fraud their computers establish certain "patterns" that indicate fraud and my check fit the pattern. Judging by what I've read on this web site and others about Certegy it appears to be a definite scam and we need to complain directly to the retailers using them. If the retailers don't change, then we'll need to boycott those retailers and buy from their competitors!

Can't clear a good check
My husband and I just moved to OKC, opened up an account with a credit union and ALWAYS HAD A POSITIVE AMOUNT in the account. Several times my husband has gone to 7-eleven for gas.He has written a check for $40.00 or $50.00. The first time of the denial, he was told he was a new customer and he had "no profile" and the company would mail him an application to fill out,but 7-eleven took his info and took his check anyway. IT CLEARED of course. The next week after still not receiving the app,my husband went back to 7-eleven wrote a check for like $51. and some change. It was denied. He told the clerk they had cleared her check last week. So the clerk called the company, they told the clerk they could take the check this time but my husband could not write it for over $50.00. ( We have a jeep,it takes more than $50.00 to fill it up with these gas prices) So the next week he went back and wrote a check for $49.00 and once again it was denied. ALL of these checks have cleared our credit union with NO reprocutions. We hate using debit cards because that information can be stolen from the computers that are swiped on. With I.D theft as it is today, that is why I like writing checks. I have proof I wrote the check. Needless to say, any business that have there system I will not use. I agree after reading all the complaints. There need to be a lawsuit filed. I will be on that list if need be, Because it is embarrassing to be in a store and be denied in front of people knowing that you have the money but nobody else knows that and after seeing you get denied, they either think of you as a criminal trying to get stuff for free by writing hot checks or they think you are needy and try to purchase the items for you as a good jesture. All because of this company's lack of business sense.
