I've had two checks refused recently from Office Max and Target. Both places couldn't give me an explanation, only gave me Certegy's info to call to find out why. I have contacted Certegy, because I have always had enough money to cover the checks and I have good credit, they ended up sending me a form to fill out that looks like a credit application. It asks for yearly income, SS#'s, etc. all information I don't feel comfortable or necessary to release to this company. I have checked with my Credit Union that the checks were written from and they have received similar complaints and questions from other customers wondering why their checks are being denied from this company. They didn't have an answer for me either.

I understand places verifying money in an account, but they seem to have known that there was money to cover the checks, but still denied them. They seemed to be telling me that it was to protect me from fraud, They are the ones asking me for confidential information, not my bank or the stores. They could have asked for ID, if that's what they needed to verify. It doesn't seem to make any sense. I have never had this problem before and twice in the past two weeks I have been embarrassed standing in the checkout line because my checks are being denied for no good reason. I have submitted complaints to the Better Business Bureau and to the Federal Trade Commission in hopes to be able to change this company's procedures.

It is time to grab this bull by the horns. After reviewing this complaint line, I now realize I have had an experience as have MANY OTHERS. Took it to the next level and filed complaint with better business bureau. They have a easy web site and would like to see everyone with these declined wrongly check issues to file complaint. Lets take back our finances.

Was declined 2 checks because of large amounts. ($800 & $1100) I Had $10000.00 in bank. When I called they had my Birthdate wrong and no past history for me and were mad because i wouldnt sign up for their 'Gold' Service. Like I want to put out MORE personal information. When I asked about the info that was stolen from their former employees and used for identity theft-- I was told to use a Visa card and not checks. I did not and do not want to use Visa. It is my money and I will spend it how I want to! It makes me mad that these buisness' that use this service decide how I pay and use my own money!

We went to Walmart to cash my husbands payroll check and we got the classic reason # 2. Even if we had bad credit how can a payroll check from a company that we DON'T own be refused when they have the available funds THIS COMPANY SUCKS!! And the cashiers at Walmart they are idiots too!!! Nobody knew how to load a damn green dot card even thought the directions are on the card!!!

I notified Certegy that I was closing my account and was told to send them a money order instead of directly withdrawing from my account. They withdrew anyway, my former bank paid and charged me a NFS fee. After being hung-up on by a representative, I finally spoke with a "manager" who told me to send a bank copy statement. This was in November of 2006. I have sent a certified letter and bank statement twice now and still no reimbursement. Last week I was told that I now need to submit a letter on my former bank letterhead in order to receive reimbursement of the $84.00 overcharge they still owe me. This is a horrible company to work with; very unprofessional and untrustworthy.
