I have had trouble writing checks @Best Buy & Walgreens.This company is a joke and retailers shouldn't go by there opinions, that is all they go by.They told my husband that it had nothing to do with our checking account but our account had similiaries to someone, a stranger, who wrote a check up to four years ago.So now I have to worry about a stranger's credit report!I will NOT be going to Best Buy or Walgreens in the future.Walmart & CVS happily take my checks!If everyone would stop going to the stores that use this company then maybe they will change check writing companies.My next call is to complain to Walgreens!!

all you people that complain about checks being decline get with the program now days pay with a credit card or debit card.. checks are not a guarntee form of payment. your bank does not gurantee them. it has nothing to do with credit! for cashing checks go to the bank or get a bank account.

I purchased a refrigerator and freezer at Home Depot. My check was denied because of the "transaction". I have enough money in my account. Certegy verified my identity by my drivers license number, name, DOB, address and account information but still refused me. This is ridicilous. How can they legally do this? I'm an honest person and could not complete my purchase do to these idiots. They should be shut down.

I went to Home Depot of Gallup NM and bought a storm d, , , , , oor and wet vac writing a check for $302.77 asking if an out-of-state (Arizona) check was okay. They replied that was fine and accepted the check.

One week later back home I went to the Home Depot in Showlow AZ to purchase wood material to build a stoop for the new storm door. I wrote a check for $49.34 which was declined after the check-out girl spent 5 minutes on the phone in which she said she was being verbally abused by the person from Cetergy on the other end. I paid with a credit card and immediately called the phone number on the Cetergy card while still in the store. The person from Cetergy asked me for routing numbers and bank accounts on my check and after 10 minutes apologized and said a mistake was made. I told them what I thought of their service after she told me it was all for my own good, to keep from having Identity theft.

The following week I went to Lowes and bought some merchadise again for under $100, just to see if my check was okay now. My check was declined only because now I am on a black-list from Cetergy for telling them what I thought. Yes, we are in a Free Country with Freedom of Speech as long as we only direct it at the government and not private industries such as Cetergy.

I usually make purchases with my debit card on 99% of my transactions. For some reason on 04/28/09, I decided that I would write a check to pay for my new eyeglasses. My mistake. Lenscrafters uses Certegy for check verification. When the store employee ran my check through their system, my check was rejected by Certegy. I was MAD AS HELL. For some reason, Certegy says that I had written bad checks out of state for purchases at Kmart and Circuit City. Merchants only accept checks drawn on local banks so why would I have written checks that are drawn on an out of state bank. I was given a Certegy card by the merchant and I promptly went home and started the fact-finding about this error. I was told that my name and driver's license were used on an account from Louisiana. I don't even use the bank that the Louisiana checks were drawn on. No other credit reporting bureau has this information on me so where did Certegy get their info? No bank has ever contacted me about fradulent checks nor has any subpeona/warrant been sent for me concerning bad checks. Fund recovery is usually the first thing that a bank will do in order to catch a thief. With all of the background checks and cross references that are in place within the banking industry, you would think that someone would have snapped and at least attempted to contact me to find out exactly what happened. I have filed a police report and have frozen my credit. I am also contacting Certegy almost daily to get as much information as possible about what is really going on. They are sending an affadavit for me to complete but after reading some of the other posts, I may not complete these forms. This company does sound rather shaky and suspicious to me as well. I will probably post again after I find out more.
