Refused to take my check
I have never had a problem writing checks...ANYWHERE!! I spent over 3 hours shopping at the Target Store in Florissant, Mo., this evening. My total was over $200. Since my debt card was in my bag and I didn't feel like digging for it, I wrote a check; they refused to take my check! I asked the cashier to run it again, and the same thing happened. I have more than enough in my checking account to cover that check; and had I wanted to could have gone to dig for my debt card or gone home and gotten the credit card; but if they won't accept a perfectly good check, they don't need any of my business! They asked if I had any other way to pay and I told the checker they could keep their stuff and that I wouldn't be back...and I won't. I have been shopping at Target for years, nearly 30, but they have lost a customer!

Falsly denied
I welcome myself to the long list of Certigy victims. Having never written a worthless check, imagine my surprise when I went into the local Sally's beauty supply to have my check denied. Not denied due to any negative info but due to a "profile" given me by Certigy. This company is ridiculous. I believe (as a merchant myself) in not letting people continue to write bad checks./ But to stop a ligitimate consumer who never has is insane.

Declined a check
I recently opened a Home Equity Line of Credit to do Home Renovations. I was at the supplier ordering the new cabinets I wanted for my kitchen, wrote a check for $1051 and Certigy DENIED the check. This a new account with more than sufficient funds and they denied the check for no apparent reason. It was embarrassing because I was with my Contractor who will be handling this work and who will also be paid from this same account. So of course he may question whether he should take a check from me to pay his fees. Who is monitoring this company, and for them to say that it is "confidential" the criteria they use to decide how they accept or not accept checks is not acceptable. I was angry and embarrassed, and something needs to be done about this company. I plan to go to my bank and discuss this with them to see if there is anything they can do about this company.

Check Cashing
I had my first experience with Certigy when I was totally humilliated at a Walgren store. When my check was declined, I made them let me call Certigy and made everyone in the store wait while they asked all the confirming information and still would not clear my check. I was told my check writing habits alerted them and there was nothing negative to make them decline my check. I subsequently had them send me "an application" so I could write checks where ever they did business. Filled the paperwork out and haven't heard from them. Two more times I have since had this problem at Publix and Ross Dept Store. I don't know how I got in their system or how to find out what stores use them. It is really a humiliating experience. I have to say I had a heated discussion with them by phone after my Publix experience since this has never happened their before. How do you get out of their system? Wish I knew.
