I took my car for an oil change on 5/26/11 to Monroe Muffler and before rotating tires I was told that the left rear tire was uneven due to the belt inside shifting therefore making making the inside of the tire worn. I was told it was a defective tire and I might want to take it to wherever the tires were purchased and see if it was under warranty. I was told that if car were to have to be inspected that it probably wouldn't pass inspection. They also did not rotate the tires on the left side of vehicle due to the fact if the defective tire were to be placed on the front it would make the car shake.
On 5/28/11 I took my vehicle to Kost Tire/Muffler where I had purchased the 4 tires on 12/10/2009 and purchased an additional tire on 3/19/2010 that had to be replaced because it was unable to be fixed due to the location of a nail in one of the tires. On 5/28/2011 after the salesman/technician inspected the tire I was told that the belt inside of the tire had definitely shifted making the tire ware on the inside but that they couldn't tell if it was due to a defective tire or from hitting a pot hole. In other words they did not want to take responsibility and replace the tire which is what should have been done. When I inquired if the tire was under any kind of warranty I was just told no not really. I was also told that the tires I had previously purchased had been discontinued. They offered to replace the tire at a discount at half price which at that time was $110.00 a tire which was considerably higher priced than the tires I had originally purchased. I declined stating that I would go elsewhere and I vowed never to do business with Kost Tire/Muffler again. Not to mention that we were told to wait an hour before it could be looked at and after an hour passed it was the salesman who drove the car into the bay and looked at it...which he could have done when we first got there but I guess customer service is not their forte. When I purchased the 4 new tires in December of 2009 the mileage was 41689 and when I had to replace one of the tires 3 months later in March of 2010 the mileage was 44133 and when I took my car in for the defective tire the mileage was approx. 54745...that's only about 13, 000 miles and the tires are supposed to be for a minimum of 40, 000 miles..c'mon and give be a break. The tire was defective and they should have made it right by replacing the tire free of charge. Not only will I never do business with Kost again but I will spread the word so that no one in my family or any of my friends patronize this establishment.
