It is difficult to understand the self-defeating policies that seem to drive TV programming.
A great example of this is the delayed (effectively non covering of the AFL finals games). Games through the season have been delayed by 30' - this was annoying enough, and now the latest insult, is the delaying of finals game coverage by 2 hours or so. Whose moronic idea is this?
Firstly those who follow the sport, will have to resort back to the dark ages - and listen to the game on the radio, as was necessary last week. Making the TV coverage all but irrelevant. Even if the TV coverage of the game is eventually watched by some it likely will be from a recording - and all the commercials & fast-forwarded over (hence a major loser is for the commercial sponsors). Furthermore, many wont bother anyway, particularly if they happen to follow the losing team - so total viewers will be down.
Secondly, for those out of Victoria who follow the game what sort of support is this offering, particularly with the AFL setting itself for new teams in Western Sydney and the Gold Coast - why should people bother - when they can watch other codes such as the NRL in real time.
Every one loses; the TV channels, the AFL, the commercial sponsors, and most importantly the general viewing and supporting public
Oh!! by the way without the latter the former wouldn't exist - funny about that!!
With the public ultimately, whether they have raise it as I have or not - actually having the last say i.e. by not watching / or with annoyance by selective watching &/or latter longer term altered watching behaviour responses (e.g. selection of other alternatives)
The hierarchy of the TV stations and the AFL need to have a good hard look at themselves!!
At the present it would seem that stupidity reigns!!!
