Australian Open Tennis 2010 Coverage
Wow Channel 7- that was some crappy tennis coverage!

- cutting matches for the news/ today tonight/ home and away
- showing commercials while the match has resumed play and we miss the first few games
- SO MUCH cross promotion about shows coming "After the tennis" (very irritating!)
- and Henri Laconte commentating the Tsonga/Djokovic match... all I can ask is what were you thinking?

Lets hope you try better next year or it might be worthwhile just giving the tennis to another channel to have a go, since you're not doing that great a job of it!

The World's worst live sport coverage
Roddick vs Cilic: 2 sets each, only Channel 7 in Australia, on Australia Day, could pull coverage, without even a back up channel. CHANNEL & SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ANDY MAJOR SPORT COVERAGE GIVEN THEIR CONTEMPT FOR VIEWERS. Absolutely shocking, please don't allow channel 7 to host a major sporting event again.

Australian Open coverage
Channel 7's coverage of the 2010 Australian Open has been consistently poor. First they spend a ridiculous amount of time spruiking their new programs for 2010 (which I can assure you I will be boycotting on principle now), even roping the commentators into shilling for these shows while they should be analysing the shotmaking. And then, to add insult to injury, they show shocking disrespect to their audience and to the players by cutting away from thrilling matches - often featuring Australians - to show the news, Today Tonight and Home and Away. While I agree that the 6pm newscast is significant enough to cease coverage for half an hour, I fail to see why we need to watch Matt White and the Today Tonight team blather on about some inane insurance fraud FROM MELBOURNE PARK while right behind them the world number 1 player Roger Federer stages the comeback of his tournament against Nikolay Davydenko. Or, as happened a few days ago, while Australian Sam Stosur (and a Channel 7 darling at that) comes up against Serena Williams. Coming back into the coverage to Johanna SHOWING US the end of the match and then telling us there'll be a full replay later on is just beyond poor.

This is Australia's biggest contribution to world tennis and a MASSIVE international tournament. If Channel 7 can't do the coverage justice then maybe it's about time another network stepped up and scooped the massive audience numbers which come from the event.

Australian Open Coverage/Commentator
I am writing as a foreigner living in Australia, about the coverage of Channel 7 with the Australian Open where sistematically they interrupt the game (QF today with Federer N.1 in the world) but also Hewitt games and Stosur games in the past few days, to show the TV news... Understandable IF they were covering the match on another channel such as Channel 7HD or 7Two...but not, all 3 channels showing STUPID news about a grandpa being denied of his driving license or horses getting hurt from a festival and so on (unfortunately this is your standard for the tv news in any channels - 4 in total ahahah).
Not only this, they did put as a commentator someone who does NOT speak even in english and yells and screams like a baby girl and unequivocally is PRO Tsonga whose french like the commentator himself...
Now, WHAT KIND OF SERVICE IS THIS ???
To me personally is going back to the medieval of the Black&White television where certainly there was much more passion in what they were doing and TOTALLY more professionality.

Continued poor tennis coverage
Why Channel 7 are we forced to continually watch mediocre programs like today tonight and home and away while the major tennis games are being played?
First, you miss Sam Stosur in her last game...how patriotic around Australia Day. Now we can't watch Federer, but at least we get to learn of some insurance scam by some half-wit. Please give the rights to another station next year. Poor.

Australian Open Coverage
Channel 7 broadcasts the Australian Open and has exclusive rights in Australia. Imagine my dismay when I found out regular programming would interrupt coverage of this event. With one analogue channel, one full HD channel and three digital channels, one would expect to be able to catch most, if not all, of the tennis. However, Channel 7 feels that it is of greater importance to deliver shows such as Home and Away to the public. 5 channels available and none showing the world number one in his fight to stay in the open? POOR EFFORT.

Tennis converage
I would like to complain that for the second night running, Channel 7 have stopped coverage of the Australian Open Tennis in Melbourne at 6pm to go to News and Today Tonight. Last night a local was in action and we all missed it, and tonight, Andy Roddick has just made a great come back to be 2 sets all, and they have stopped the coverage again.
In the UK, the channel that has the rights to show the competition does so with sense, sometimes moving across to a sister channel to enable normal programs to still be shown, aswell as good tennis action that would pull in large audiences of viewers.
Channel 7 has a digital second channel - why not use that instead???
Next year, I hope ABC gets to cover the Open, so we can be assured of being able to see the right coverage!

Programming
Channel 7 should not be allowed any television rights to sporting events. It's the day before Australia - our national day - an Australian is playing in the Australian Open and Channel 7 think it is better to show crap television shows like TodayTonight (a load of rubbish at best) and Home and Away (not much better). Seriously, I hope the rights to the Australian Open go to Channel 9 or 10 next year, because clearly channel 7 have no idea or respect. If you want the rights to these events then show them!

Australian Open 2010
I find it utterly appaling the channel 7 coverage of the Australian Open 2010. I am a Brisbane viewer and not only do I have to watch the evening live games an hour behind, unable to use another media source in case of getting the score ahead of time; but I was today watching the Mayer v. Del Potro match only for it to go into an ad and then start playing Home Improvement - WHAT???? Why would I sit and watch a match for it only to conclude with an awful American sitcom. If you're going to broadcast a live sporting event, especially one as prestigious as the Australian Open then it should be treated with the respect it deserves, as do the viewers. Sort it out channel 7.
