I am a professional business consultant and during my presentations to clients I use Charter Communications as a negative example of what customer services should be.
I would often time say..."I want my company to grow so big that I can stop caring about what my customers think...Like Charter Communications".
My last confrontation with them was about being double billed between charter business and charter residential. Other confrontations included, poor signal strength, dropped internet connections, video outages, and intermittent phone interruptions. However, nothing compares to their under-trained, unavailable, lazy, condescending, insensitive, careless, dispassionate, and deaf customer services departments. Not that the people are bad but if you speak to more than one of them you can tell...they are trained this way.

Over billing
I moved and when I moved they took almost two weeks to cut off service at my old address.I told them to cut it off soon as they could it was rental.
Had a bill come that was the wrong amount paid what the lady told me then took it down to zero.Two days later another bill comes for 194.00 after I paid my remaining bill from former address.They still said i was a month behind that the money I paid went to the new addresses bill omg what idoits! I called and spoke to five people in all and all of them had different stories and none of them helped me.I asked them how did my bill go from 00.00 to 194.00 in one month and I have not even been at the new address even a month.They twisted everything I told them to suit thier needs. My head was spinning after hours of this.
This company had gone from bad to worse and where I live at&t does not have fast DSL.I am going to the local office with Bank statement in hand proving I have paid every month and see what they will do if nothing then were without phone, Internet and TV. One person will tell you one thing and then someone else a different story.They do not care one bit about their customers. One told me they always billed a month in advance well before I moved here they did not!! I have my old bills to prove it, this is insane.Thier over billing me bad!!!

Line Quality
I have always disliked Charter Internet but when we moved it was the only option.
A rude technician comes to our home 2 hours early without warning. The entire time he is on a bluetooth headset chatting away. When he needs something he is practically screaming at your face. He interrupted 2 important phone calls just to ask where certain computers are situated (and he was already told!)
Then he informs us "they can't run ethernet as it is against 'the code.'" Really? You have no problem clunking your drill all around our house leaving little piles of sawdust in your wake to run coaxial but drilling the 2 holes necessary to run a single cat 5e cable to the computer RIGHT NEXT to the TV you just hooked up is impossible. I bet.
Doesn't stop there. Now that we are hooked up, we had to call in 3 times to get our internet speed set to what we are paying. (Was getting 1Mb/s, paying for 8Mb/s)
What's nice is that we also have terrible line quality. We average 80-90% packet loss to all locations via pingtest.net. (was never a problem with ATT!) After sitting on the phone with 2 technicians and in a live chat with a "TTD James" for nearly 2 hours they still have yet to admit fault for the signal loss. Which has been repeatedly proven to be their problem.

Bill was 10 dollars higher than quoted
Today was one of the many times I had to call Charter cable for many many problems.This even was due to a bill that was 10 dollars higher than quoted. The representative was not trained on how to view the billing and continued to speak over me. When requesting a supervisor I was placed on hold for several minutes and when the representative finally got back on the line she stated that her supervisor would not take the call and she was working to locate another. Annoyed at this point she placed me on hold again were a supposed supervisor got on the line said she was in repair and did not handle billing that I had followed the prompts to the wrong place in a very condescending voice then without a response from me muted the call with a quick i will transfer you to billing. She never even stated her name or introduced herself. That was 7 minutes ago and am still sitting on a muted line listening to dead air.

Changes agreement, and advertises for scammers
If you have charter, you have email, and ur email page will ALWAYS have scam ads. it is almost always for either the scam tooth "whitening" non free trials, or google fast cash scam kits. please, everyone, email charter and ask them to please stop placing scam ads everywhere. WE PAY FOR YOUR SERVICE, CHARTER. FIRST OFF, UR PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS, SECOND, THIS IS HOW U THANK US??? RUNNING AROUND SPAMMING UP OUR EMAIL PAGES WITH SCAM ADS????? HOW U THANK US IS HAND US OVER TO SCAMMERS WHO WILL NEVER STOP CHARGING OUR CARDS.CHARTER- DON'T U KNOW THAT WHEN THE SCAMMERS U HELP SUPPORT WIPE OUT OUR BANK ACCOUNTS, WE WONT BE ABLE TO PAY UR OUTAGEOUS PRICES ANYMORE??? This is how much charter "cares" for their customers. Now, I can see why free email accounts place scam ads-because they provide a free service, and they're selling ad space to compensate. I can even see news sites, like cnn because we get to read the news pages for free, but charter i CANNOT understand. we DO pay for that service.
As a paying customer, i demand, charter, TO STOP PUTTING NOTHING BUT SCAM ADS ON OUR EMAIL PAGES. THIS IS TERRIBLE! I BELIEVE U ACTUALLY FLAT OUT REFUSE TO SELL AD SPACE TO ANYONE BUT SCAMMERS, BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY ADS IVE EVER SEEN AFTER YEARS OF HAVING UR EMAIL SERVICE. THERE SHOULDN'T BE ADS THERE ANYHOW!!! WE PAY, THIS ISN'T A FREE SERVICE!!! CUSTOMERS WILL TRUST THOSE ADS BECAUSE SINCE WE PAY FOR THE EMAIL SERVICE, WE WILL BELIEVE THE ADS ARE LEGIT. WE WOULDNT IMAGINE THAT YOU, CHARTER, WOULD ONLY SELL AD SPACE TO SCAMMERS ONLY. WE DONT ASSUME THAT YOU ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HAND US OVER TO THE WOLVES.

Charter, u really need to start putting the customer first, not the scammer first. you also, aparently need to keep better records of ur phone calls. but just know, to anyone who has charter, always get ur proof of ur agreements with them. even after u provide proof, they will try to change it every billing cycle.

U may want to trust this "consumer news" site, because it is from charter, and because the "mom" will be from ur town. don't be tempted to believe that charter allowed this ad because it is about a local mom from ur town. u may want to think that the reason it was important enough for charter to feature is because it is "local". this is NOT local. after doing a domain name lookup, i found the TRUE addres of where this so-called "mom" originated

This "mom" claimed to be living in Tennessee, when the "mom" is actually registered in california. or Jack, whichever u want to refer this "mom" as. notice in the fake comments, Jack (the original "mom") claims shipping took only 2 days to get to illinoise. so which is it? is it jack, or a "mom"? is s/he from california, illinoise, or tennessee?? come on, charter. surely ur scammer friends are brighter than that? oh, no... looks like i exposed one of charter's close friends...

Cheating Customer
I'm looking at this great deal from Charter for cable and internet & phone but there's no way I'll deal with them - two friends have been cheated by these folks. One called to find a way to lower her bill, was told to do xyz, which she agreed to and the next month her bill, instead of being $40 LOWER was $20 HIGHER. When she complained was told, so sorry, you misunderstood...because there was nothing in writing, nothing my friend could do. And she deals with such details every day on her job...not just a misunderstanding! I won't even consider dealing with Charter - that's the second friend with a similar complaint - they tell you one thing and then you are NOT pleasantly surprised that what you heard and what you got are 2 different things. And no one has said good things about their business.

Lies
Charter in Rockwall, TX told me they would give me 1 year of FREE cable because their internet service had been so troublesome. I agreed. Then they started charging me for cable right away. I called and they said they never offered me free cable! They have no record of it therefore the conversation did not happen. Basically I was a liar!
I have been using Charter high-speed internet service for years. They were the only company in our rural area that would provide high-speed internet. They had a monopoly. The service went down frequently and they would always send someone to fix this. Last summer 2009 the internet went off so much I told them I was going to stop being their customer.
The man apologized and said we do not want to lose you as a customer. What if I give you 1 FREE year of cable, would you stay with us? I stated you can give me 1 free year of cable! He said yes I can. I said let me understand this, I keep my internet the same and you give me 1 FREE year of cable. Yes, if you stay with us as a customer. I said okay we will give this a try.
They started charging me for the cable and I did not catch this for 3 months due to illness in family.
I called and said why are you charging me! They said know one ever offered me a free year of cable they cannot do that. I stated yes he did! They said no they did not and they never did that. After a lot of arguing with various people I realized no matter how much documentation I had they were going to do whatever they wanted to. I absolutely had no way to prove I was told this, even though I had written details down. It was my word against theirs. I am still astounded by the thought that customer service would offer me this deal and then deny they ever did. HOW STUPID WAS I? I still make the mistake of thinking a person would not lie to me in that way.
How does this make a customer stay with them to go up on the rates? Was this their way of getting extra money until I caught them and canceled my account? Why lie to my face and say we want to keep you as a customer, and then increase my rates???? SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE SENSE OF THIS STUPIDITY????
I am canceling my account. DO WE AS CONSUMERS REALLY HAVE ANY PROTECTION?

This is my bill since July I have had the service since March but cant get copies of those months, S S different day ! I am Not surprised after all I was told by U matter 2 Charter all the wasted phone calls all my wasted time!!! My Service still SUCKS I can't even have a normal friggin phone conversation, I am supposed to pay for this!!! 9 FRIGGIN months Not one bill is right! I don't believe a word any of you tell me it's all BS !!! I truly Hate this company . LIES LIES LIES I have never in my life had so much stress over looking at my bill's and no matter what they tell you it is BS call back the next day and no one has a clue what you are talking about !!! HOW in the !!! do I owe 445.98 past due for 1 friggen month with the lowest everything????? WHY has my bill been over 200.00 every month I signed up for the 69.99 bundle package!!! I have the slowest internet connection 29.99 a month?I have extended Basic cable44.99 a month and the unlimited phone package 19.99 a month This is what I was Quoted when I signed uo. I also Ha2 additional boxes for 5.00 a month that I wasnt told I would be billed for I also have a MODEM so I can access the internet for 5.00 a month I wasn't told I would be billed extra for. Oh yeah A modem for the phone 5.00 a month to use the phone! again wasnt told I would be billed for. and the Cable box in the Living room 15.00 a month! I wasnt told would be extra. Lets see that 35.00 extra a month plus fees and taxes in excess of over 25.00 a month !!! Is this a big joke ??? Oh yeah and the 35.00 dollar service charge fees because my service dosen't work and hell I even pay a extra 5.00 a month for wire maintenance This is just to much I am really about to go online get in contact with EVERYONE WHO HAS FILLED A COMPLAINT ABOUT CHARTER and contact a attorney I cant handek this stress any more!!! Oh by the way I tried to upload my bills so you could see them as proof but Guess WHAT IT wont let me because the files are to BIG !!! MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MY SERVICES DONT EVEN WORK AND I AM SUPPOSED TO KEEP PAYING FOR THIS!

I am so sick of Charter. I have 1200 in pron rented and we were not even home. BBB did nothing. I am hiring a lawyer. Rather pay them.

lost payment
I made a 178.04 payment for my bill on June19, which covered it through july. On monday june 22 my cable was turned off . When I called charter they told me that work was being done in my area that it would be back on by 11:00am. when I called again after 1:00pm they told me that my bill was not paid. I LOOKED AT MY BANK STATEMENT ON LINE a DEBIT HAD CLEARED THE BANK ON JUNE22. I called the bank and had them print my statement so it could be faxed to CHARTER.Someone atCHARTER finally gave me a fax number but when the bank tried it, it would not go through .I tried calling CHARTER with no help. I was talked rude to and hung up on when I ask for a supervisor several times.I was told to take proof to the SPARTANBURG office which is all the way across town. I had to get my grandaughter to take me onJULY3 . I am disabled and do not drive . I took my proof and my tv and phone box and was told that the supervisor was on vacation and would be back on Monday and would call me. IT IS JULY16 AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED ONE CALL FROM CHARTER except several harrasment calls that Istill owe the bill .
