Chase Bank Reviews

Poorly operated lending institution
Chase bank has informed me that "due to the poor economy" your 5.99% Fixed rate card (that I have paid on time without exception) will be changed in March to a variable rate (7.5% Beginning). If I don't accept this "offer" I can opt out and close my account - which would have a negative impact on my good credit score. In calling chase's customer service representative It was confirmed that the change was indeed due to the poor economy and not due to any short comings in my payment history. When questioned regarding the negative impact on my credit...The reply was "well yes...The closing of the account will have a negative effect-something that they (chase) would consider when evaluating credit" it is a 'take it or leave it' form of blackmail that is not deserved. They want to weed out all the less than profitable intrest rates and hook people into a variable or screw up their credit. I have logged a complaint with the ftc. Does anyone else agree that these are the actions of a poorly operated lending institution screwing the already credit strained public?

charge huge fees and offer no support
I recently made a human error and Chase Bank fined me hundreds of dollars in fees. Background: At the beginning of the summer, my children ages 9 and 6 decided they wanted to mow lawns to earn enough money for a Nintendo Wii. They worked hard all summer under close parental supervision and at the end of the summer they'd saved enough money to purchase a Wii. After some research it became evident that eBay had some of the best deals for games and components. I have a PayPal account because of a small online golf website that I have called agamegolfinstruction.com where I accept payments through PayPal and that money is transferred from PayPal into a Chase bank checking account. We decided to use a credit card for my children’s eBay purchases so I added my credit card to my PayPal account and we deposited my children’s money in the Credit Card account to cover the purchases. We purchased about 10 separate items on eBay using PayPal for a total of about $250. A week later I received a statement from Chase bank that I had accrued nearly $300 in NSF fees. I did some research and after calling PayPal, I realized that somehow during the eBay checkout process, we failed to link the purchases to the credit card on the PayPal account and so PayPal was trying to take money out of my Chase Bank checking account which was nearly empty. At this time, there were still about 4 transactions that hadn’t been completed and I called PayPal and asked if they could change where the eBay transactions were being billed and they said they could not. I called Chase Bank and asked if they could refuse the remaining requests for funds so that PayPal would bill the credit card on file and Chase said they couldn’t do anything. The really frustrating thing is that PayPal requests the funds from the checking account twice before it goes to a backup funding source which is the Credit Card on file. So for example, PayPal tried to request funds twice for one purchase of $5.49 and Chase declined both requests and charged me $35 each time for a total of $70 for that one purchase alone. After all the purchases were completed, Chase charged me over $400 in NSF fees. I spoke with Chase managers to see if they would consider reversing the fees and they gave me $70 which they said is the annual limit they’re allowed to offer. There is no room for negotiation here. It doesn’t matter what your track record is with the bank and how high-quality of a customer you’ve been. Chase takes your money and runs. BEWARE of Chase because their policies and procedures are structured to take advantage of you with no means of recourse on your part. Go to a credit union or a local bank where they’ll get to know you by name and treat you as a valuable member.

Closing Accounts for No Reason
I had a credit card with Providian Bank which was then transferred to WaMu... and then Chase took over WaMu.

I tried to charge $89 yesterday and was embarrassed to find out it was declined. I checked online and was over $1, 000 below my limit and my payment wasn't due yet so I contacted Chase.

That's when I found out my account had been cancelled in July! The reason? I was using up too much credit on my credit cards. So even though I'd NEVER EVER been late on ANY credit card nor had I EVER gone over my limits on ANY credit card, Chase canceled me.

I looked further online and saw a slew of complaints about this - mostly Chase and Amex. It's insane - why cancel people who have never missed (or was late on) a payment?!

Questionable banking ethics
We used to bank with WAMU until Chase bought it out. Chase bank is WWWWAAAYYYY too big to be a "people's" bank. We are blown off with every complaint from holding all small checks for sometimes 48 hours to process all large checks through first (which go through like freight trains), to holding "pending" deposits of payroll checks that have been deposited to the account for close to 10 years for the reason of, "it's a larger check than usual". (I got a raise for work performance if it's really ANY of their business). This bank is working under questionable business ethics.

Mortgage crooks
My husband and I had our mortgage with WaMU. We filed chapter 7 bankruptcy since my husbands business failed and we were paying and over $3000.00 mortgage. We bankrupted our second mortgage, working with a bankruptcy attorney. I went on Chases website, downloaded and filled out a Loan Modification package. After three months of calling and getting no response, I finally got thru to our loan rep. She told me Congratulations that we had qualified for a Trial Payment Plan. We have been faithfully paying our first mortgage of over $2300.00. With their Trial Payment Plan, I was told we had to pay three mortgages of $2100.00 and then if we did that, our mortgage would be reaccessed and modified to fit our current income. Well the 2100.00 was better than the 2300.00 so we thought we were getting somewhere. After three weeks of not receiving any paperwork, I called my loan rep and guess what. She does not work in that dept anymore and I was given a new name. This one likes to email so I stated emailing. Well first I was told that their systems were being updated and she could not help me unitl that was done. In the meantime my husband and I received a notice from Chase that they are suing us for not paying our mortgage for three months. I immediately got on the phone and had my bank (n0t Chase) fax me copies of the cancelled checks. The did and guess what- Chase's stamp is on the back of all three. They have cashed our mortgage payments and our now using our mortgage money to sue us. I faxed the attorneys a letter along with our cancelled checks. Have not heard a word back from them. I emailed our loan mod girl and told her what was going on. She said she knew nothing about the lawsuit and had turned my email over to their legal dept. She also told me our paperwork was with an outside vendor who does their mailing for them and she would have to follow up. What a joke. I advise all AMERICAN'S to boycott this bank. One hand does not know what the other is doing. If we don't come together they are going to rip us off blind, which is what they are already doing.

credit payment increase
those S O Bs have raised my payment from $260.00 to $630.00 a month. they told my it's because of the bad economy, well dah the economy is bad then were in the hell am i suppose to get $400.00 more a month to pay them. i told them i would have to stop feeding my family, stopp putting gas in my car and not have chothes to wear and i was told that in other words if that's what it took then do it. how can they screw us like this and get away with it we all need to contact each other and refuse to pay or sue or something. i can not pay this increase no matter what i do this increase is 1/2 of my monthly income. we can't let them do this someone please help us if you know what to do.

Overcharged greatly
I am an original Washington Mutual customer & Chase bank finds any way they can to charge you fees. They will put a hold on your payroll check if it not a direct deposit, There ATM machines have different cut off times when WaMu was 9pm PST, They run the largest check or debit 1st to get more NSF fees from the consumer, they charge an $12.50 fee if you balance is negative for 5 or more day even negative balance is only the NFS/Banks fees, There online transfer cut off time is 8pm EST when WaMu was 9pm PST & there customer service reps don't know there heads from a hole in the ground, there are reading from a script & the accents are so heavy you can understand them & they are sure of the ATM & online banking cut off times. I have come to this conclusion that Chase wants to use my & your money to make money, but Chase pays the consumer/us with fees for the use of our money. There is something quite wrong with this type of banking relationship.

hidden charges
I have NEVER in my life have had to deal with such rude and disrespectful people as I have with the employees at Chase Bank. I can not believe that the government lets these credit card companies run our lives...I had a 3, 000 balance on my card, paid it off and I just got a bill for 45.56. When I called the totally obnoxious woman told me that it was interest that had occured while my payment was in the mail!...Come on I mean really, ...So, after this check goes out in the mail today for 45.56 I am done with Chase and will NEVER have a thing to do with them again...and the funny thing is that my credit card was through Washington Mutual...and without knowing, Chase bought them out!...Who is the one who can't pay thier bills here anyway??

Horrible situation
I went into a chase branch and deposited $370 with an actual human teller. I have to do this because I have an out of state account so they have to send the deposit to Kentucky si it usually takes 24-48 hours tops.

A few days later I called because the deposit was not showing and they said they had no record of the deposit. Of course I could not find the receipt. I spoke with the manager and he did whatever research he did and there were no deposits for that amount that day or that week. Without a receipt they cannot help me. I said check the security cameras He said he needs to know the EXACT time i was in the bank I don't know the EXACT time i said just check from 4 to 5 Nope he needs the EXACT time. Meanwhile i'm racking up overdraft fees and selling my soul to get cash to cover my debit charges. 25 years banking I have never had this happen!?!?!

Terrible customer service
We've been account holders with Wamu for over 20 years (before they were Wamu). after the Chase took over I've had 3 serious problems with Chase:

-Terrible customer service; they act as if they were doing you a favor.

- Written communication concerning new fees and procedures are non-existent. When you go to the bank, you find out about the new policy!

-As a customer, they do not back up your money if a merchant makes a mistake on your ATM card.

I will be moving all my accounts to another bank I recommend the same!
