Chase Bank Reviews

Terrible bank
I have been a loyal customer of Wamu for several years. I have always paid my payments online, on time, and for greater than the minimum amount due. When Chase took over for Wamu they stated that they were unable to transfer the account information and that I would have to enter all of my payment information again. I did this, including re-entering the information to confirm that it was correct. I later received a postcard in the mail stating that they had not received the payment and were adding a late charge (as it was now late) as well as a returned check charge (even though the payment had never gone through). They stated the reason for this was that the bank reported it as an "unknown account" and that I should contact my bank for further information. My bank stated that they did not receive a request for payment from Chase and that I should confirm that the information Chase had was correct. I tried to contact them by phone and was told that the wait time would be greater than 10 minutes and that I should try again later. I then used their online email contact form and submitted a request for more information. When I tried to access my payment account information it would only show the last 4 digits of the account number (which were correct). I received a response from the bank stating that due to the large number of inquiries they would respond in 24 hours. After 2 days, I still had not received a response so I sent another email. I finally received a response stating that the charges were valid and would stand but that they could not give me any of the banking information online. I would have to contact the customer service number for that. I contacted customer service via telephone and was informed that they could not confirm my banking information either. When I explained the problem, they stated that they could not tell me what THEY had but that I could give them the correct information and they could confirm it. When I repeated the correct account number, I was told that "No, that is not what they had". I asked how it differed and they would only state that the last 4 digits (which I could already see online) were correct but that something else was wrong but they couldn't tell me what it was. There is no way that I could enter the information incorrectly more than once. This is obviously a way for them to collect more fees from a "new" customer. After reading other complaints listed here, it appears to be a universal problem. And why should Americans support our banking system????? I say, no more bailouts!!!

Awful bank
I had been a customer for 12 years without a late payment. I didn't receive a bill last month and was popped for a $40 service charge and interest on a card I had paid in full for 12 years - no late payments. I called customer service and was told that neither the first person I spoke with nor the supervisor could waive the late fee - supervisor even hung up on me when I asked him to repeat that he did not have the authority. Was told it was "policy". Went to a branch and they said if I had another account they would try to help but without another account there was nothing they could do. This is the way they choose to do business I choose not to do business with them - a pity after 12 years. I guess they get enough of the taxpayers money they just don't care to keep customers who pay the bills...

Increased Intrest Raye
I have paid my sons college bill on a Chase credit card. At first it was declared a Prime Rate card. Well, they stung me along and now all of a sudden my interest rate is 2x what it used to be. I have been complaining but get no help at all. They claim it is due to the faltering economy. I never even once missed a payment or was late. This is really bad for me since the extra interest has pushed me to the brink of bankrupcy. I wish someone would step in for all of us. It is just not fair.

RUDE/OFFENSIVE MANAGER
I WENT INTO CHASE BANK TODAY ON 198 LOGAN ST. NOBLESVILLE, in46060. MY WIFE AND MY ACCOUNT WERE COMPROMISED. SOMEBODY FROM AUSTRALIA CHARGED OUR ACCOUNT WITH OVER 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF CHARGES. THIS IN TURN, TOOK OUR ACCOUNT TO THE NEGATIVE. I WENT IN TO CLOSE IT AFTER THE FRAUD PROTECTION KICKED IN, BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. WHEN I ASKED TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT, THE GUY HELPING US, PRETTY MUCH TOLD US I HAD TO CONTACT THE ORIGINAL PERSON I TALKED TO TO GET SOME MONEY REINSTATED TO MY ACCOUNT. ALL I DID WAS CALL CHASE'S PHONE NUMBER AND TALKED TO THE FIRST PERSON THAT WOULD TALK TO ME. SO HOW AND THE HELL COULD I FIND THE REPRESENTATIVE WHO TALKED TO ME 2 MONTHS BACK? SO I GOT ANGRY WITH THE GUY AND STORMED OUT TO GET MY CELL PHONE SO I COULD TALK TO A REPRESENTATIVE IN FRONT OF THE GUY. AS I WAS REACHING FOR MY PHONE, THE GUY CAME OUT AND TOLD ME TO NEVER COME BACK AGAIN. FOR SLAMMING A DOOR? OF COURSE I WAS ANGRY WITH THEM, BUT SLAMMING THE DOOR TO SHOW MY LEVEL OF FRUSTRATION DOES NOT DESERVE SOME FAT GUY TELLING ME IM "KICKED OUT" WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL OVER HE ADDED TO IT, BY PULLING OUT HIS COP BADGE. I DONT KNOW IF HE WAS TRYING TO INTIMIDATE ME OR WHAT, SURELY A FAT GUY WITH GLASSES WORKING AS A BANK MANAGER PART-TIME AND A COP PART TIME, DOESNT REALLY INTIMIDATE ME. BUT ITS THE FACT THAT HE WAS TRYING TO BE THE BIGGER MAN AND TELLING ME WHAT TO DO, WHEN TO DO IT THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE GOVERNMENT OWNED, DOESNT MEAN YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT. I JUST HOPE BY WRITING THIS REPORT ON HIM WILL GET HIM TO THINK ABOUT HOW TO TREAT SOMEONE NEXT TIME.

Pay account off then they close it
I became unemployed and was late on paying. I told them I was not able to make payment at this time. Once I was employed I paid the account in full after I was told the card would be activated again. After paying the total amount of $800+ they closed the account. I called to discuss and someone from the Phillipines answered and was hard to understand so I spoke to someone else. I was given no resolution at all and now I called the CEO of the company to file a complaint. I hope I will hear someting soon

Awful bank
When I left went to move from chicago to Virginia I closed my Chase account. I had no fees owed and no outstanding checks. TWO ENTIRE WEEKS LATER they reopened my account to pay an comcast bill which was autodebited but should not have been, as I had moved AND canceled my account with Comcast. Then after paying comcast out of my closed account they proceeded to charge me a daily fee for being negative... Well I got to where I am and was using another bank account I have in NY to live off of, when I tried to open a bank account in VA months later I was told that I owe Chase 2000 dollars, as they have been charging my re-opened account 5 dollars a day. WOW. Talk about sucking!

Scam charges
Many people have reported the fraud perpetrated by Chase Bank- charges for an unauthorized 'payment protector plan.' I persisted mightily and Chase finally refunded 5 years worth of fees.

At the same time, I filed a complaint with the Federal Reserve - online- and the matter was turned over to the Controller of the Currency. Someone from the Executive Office of Chase called me yesterday to tell me they had been contacted by that office. Chase apologized, but did not acknowledge the fraud.

The Controller of the Currency does not handle general consumer advocacy, so each person ripped off by Chase would have to file a complaint. This can be done at www.helpwithmybank.gov, or by calling 800-613-6743.

If the bank's executive receives many calls about our complaints. they may get the message and cease this fraudulent practice. Do all you can. You can get results.

APR increase
Chase sent a notice at the end of February 2009 indicating my account will have an increase of my APR from 7.99% to 12.24%. They state if I agree to this to do nothing. Well I disagreed and contacted them on March 10, 2009 to cancel the card since I am not going to accept the increase. They stated since I will be canceling, my APR rate will stay at 7.99%. Well they not only lied to me, they increased it anyway to the 12.24% on the April statement. I contacted them on April 10th to remove the APR and reduce it back to what was agreed on in the statement. They stated because I contacted them before the next statement that this rate of 12.24 will only reflect on this statement and will go back to the 7.99% rate on the May statement. I made every attempt to speak with this rep that actually spoke English and she did not want to listen and made every attempt to end the call. I also had an additional convenience check written in May of 2007 that promised a 6.99% rate for the life of the balance. Guess what, they increased that to 7.99% in June of 2008. What Chase did here was a violation on the Truth in Lending Act of 1968.

If anyone knows of a class action lawsuit going on that is accepting people from other sstates, please send me a link.

I have a link to an attorney in Rhode Island that is doing a class action lawsuit against Bank of America for the same violations. If anyone has a BofA card, email me and I can send you the link.

I guess these banks will do anything until the new credit card laws go into effect in 2010. They messed the economy up and take what they can from the bailout and stick it even more to their customers.

Illegal Withdrawl of Funds
I noticed on 3/30/09 that almost $500 had been deducted from my Credit Union Savings account by Chase Auto. I used to have an account with them and had paid off my loan in December 08. My account was closed at that time. When I contacted them, they told me it was my fault and that it was my responsibility to cancel my Chase online payment. Nowhere was it mentioned I needed to go in and close it once my account was paid off. Long story short, both customer service supervisors blamed me for the error and told me I needed to fax them a copy of the transaction showing the money had been taken from my account. After doing so, Anthony told me I would receive an overnight check. I didn't receive the check. I called back and spoke with Francis, she was cold and uncaring and really didn't care about the issue. All she could do is blame me over and over again. They took my rent out of my account, me and my boys will end up on the street if I do not get the money back, she
didn't express concern. She just told me it would take a minimum of three working days to research the issue and then once identified as having the funds deducted I would be reimbursed. In other words, my rent could be late by as much as twelve days. That won't work. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH CHASE AUTO.
