Scam and lies
On August 21st 2008 I deposited $6, 000 of the $10, 000 remaining on my home equity line of credit into my savings account. I thought I might need it for emergencies because I had been unemployed since June. According to my July 2008 statement I still had $10, 000 I could draw upon. I finally had to use some of the deposited funds in October 2008 to pay my November bills. Chase removed the funds from my bank account the week before Thanksgiving on 11/20/2008. I received a letter over Thanksgiving stating that they had devalued my property and decreased my credit line and they were going to be kind enough to not charge me any additional fees. I won't even go into the enormous snowball effect of fees from my bank for all of the payments that were paid out prior to the funds being removed from my account from Chase. How are they allowed to dishonor a check 4 months after being deposited into a personal bank account? How far back in time can they go back and retroactively re-value property and take money out of peoples accounts? Had I not closed the account before more damage was done who knows how much they would have taken out over time citing retroactive property devaluations.

Terrible bank
I have had a credit line Visa Card with Chase since 2006. I have never been late with a payment. In addition, I have good credit and my credit report shows that I pay my bills on time. This credit card had a limit of $3700.00. In addition this account came with check writing privileges. I wrote a check for $2000.00 and deposited it into my account. Prior to doing this I called Chase to confirm that what I was doing was alright. I was told it was alright and proceeded. This morning at 8:20am est I did receive a phone call from a man who identified himself as calling from 'Credit Operations'. My caller ID did show 'Private Caller'. This man asked me numerous personal questions and stated it was his job to complete a review of the account. I had to stop him numerous times and ask him to identify himself. In addition, not knowing who in fact I was speaking to, I had to insure that he was who he said he was by identify my employer. After answering his questions I was told that a check which I had written for $2000.00, which had cleared my bank, would not be honored. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, at which point I was put on the phone with 'Larry'. Larry refused to give me his last name, address or contact phone number. Larry told me that because of my credit report showing a high debt to income ratio Chase would not honor this check. i explained that this would cause a problem since I had already accounted for and used the monies. My bank was under the assumption, as was I, that this check had cleared. Chase has caused me, my family, my reputation harm by their inconsiderate and drastic tactics. At no time did Chase advise me that they would not honor my credit line or the check I had written. It was after the fact that Chase did what they did and what they did is wrong. At the least, at this point Chase should have agreed to honor this check. If they want to reduce my limit so be it, but honor the check. It's banks such as this that are causing many American's headaches and heartaches. These big banking institutions feel that there's nothing that and average, hardworking individual can do, or should I say won't do. Chase does not see the harm or the tears in the eyes of the American's that they are hurting. Chase is destroying the same American people who brought them to the status that they are at now. If nothing else the $2000.00 check should have been honored, as not written or verbal notice was given that would have led me to believe anything different.

Chase Bank Penalizes senior for making early payment
On December 10th my 70 year old mother had to go in for knee surgery. She is the type of woman who always has paid her bills early and always has paid more than the minimum amount required. She has excellent credit. On December 9th she went into Chase bank in Rochester NY to pay her credit card bill early (before she had received her statement for her January). She told the teller that she wanted to pay her credit card bill early because she was having surgery and knew she would be out of it for the month of January. She asked the teller if it would be okay to pay her January bill early. The teller at Chase bank told her it would be fine, so my mother gave her one of her old statement with her credit card bank account number so the teller could put her payment in for January so that she did not have to worry about it while she was recovering from her surgery.
At the end of January she received her billing statement with a very high minimum payment due saying that she was past due on her January payment. My mother called Chase bank customer service immediately and explained to the Customer service rep that she made her January payment on December 9th because she had knee surgery on December 10th and she knew she would be out of it so she went to the bank and paid early.
The woman Customer Service rep at Chase bank said "Well you didn't call use to tell us you were doing this", my mother explained that she went directly to Chase bank and spoke with the teller and she told her she could pay for her January payment early and that it was fine.
The customer service representative said "You are supposed to call us, you can't just go to the bank and pay early without calling us to let us know".
I can't imagine why my 70 year old mother would do something so CRAZY as to go to the bank the credit card is issued from, ask an employee who works for the company that the credit card is issued from if it's okay to pay early and actually believe the employee who works for that bank is giving her the correct information when telling her that it is fine.
Are you following me so far? She went to the bank to pay her January 2009 payment early (In December of 2008), was told that was fine by a Chase bank employee at the bank and she made the payment thinking she had paid her bill early for January.
After going around in circles on the phone with the Customer Service representative, she was kind enough to understand what had happend and told my mother in the future she will need to call the credit card company to let them know if she plans on paying early, my mother agreed that she would and told her she didn't know she had to do that, seeing as the CHASE employee at the bank told her something different.
She told my mother she could just send in the minimum payment for her February payment and to ignore the extra amount for it being considered a late payment. My mother said I would like to pay extra as I do every month. The Customer Service rep said that's fine, but not necessary. The Customer Service rep said she would keep the fixed interest rate where is was when she signed up for the card. She even sent my mother a letter stating that she took care of the issue and that is was fully resolved.
My mother thought that was the end of this ordeal.
Today 2/21/09 the new statement came for the March payment. To my mothers surprise Chase bank wanted several hundred dollars more than the minimum payment, plus she noticed the interested rate when up a substantial amount.
My mother called Chase bank to speak to a Customer Service Representative; she was on the phone for over an hour being transferred from one rep to another explaining over and over again what had happend.
Finally she was transferred to some man who claimed to be the HEAD SUPERVISOR who explained to her that because her payment wasn't made between such and such date in January (but made early- in December) it was considered not paid.
He told her that her early payment counted towards the principle, but not towards the payment because... (even though it was paid early & even though the teller at the bank told her it was okay to pay early at the bank and that she credited to her January payment) Your gonna loves this... it wasn't paid between such and such a date in January, so it doesn't count!
Let me just explain this... because she paid early and not on the due date it was considered late and she is now being penalized because she went to the bank and paid early and because Chase employees are not educated enough to know that the information they give out at the bank is incorrect.
Lets put aside the fact that she has excellent credit, has never made a late payment and always pays more than the minimum amount. Lets put aside that the teller at the bank told her it was okay to pay at the Chase bank and that it was okay to pay early and... the customer service rep she spoke to on the phone the previous time she called sent a letter and told her she fixed the situation and it was all taken care of, this man said all of that is not true.
The man who she spoke to tonight after being on hold told her that according to the "fine print" on the contract she signed when signing up for the card it states that the bank has the right to charge her a higher interest rate and increase her minimum payment because she did not pay the extra fee for the late fee the previous month and she didn't pay between such and such date in January.
Wait a minute... I thought the Female Customer Service rep from the previous time she called Chase told her to disregard the bill and that she didn't have to pay the extra amount. I heard my mother tell the rep "I would like to pay extra, because I always do" and the rep told her that was fine and that she would adjust the account and she even sent her a letter.
Now if you're really confused about this situation, how do you think my 70 year old mother is feeling?
I am furious! I watched her face turn red as her blood pressure increased as she spent an hour on the phone being passed on from one rep to the next because no one at Chase bank seems to know what the hell is going on. Except for the man who thinks he is a GOD who calls himself the "HEAD SUPERVISOR".
According to him it doesn't matter what anyone at CHASE bank told her... "It's in the fine print".
I got on the phone with the BIG supervisor who was as cold and uncaring as they come! He didn't care about what anyone at the bank had told my mother, he refused to give me the name or phone number of the previous woman rep who said she took care of this situation and kept repeating how it was in the fine print if you miss a payment (which she did not do, she paid it early), your interest rate will increase and he cannot change it back to what it was.
I said to him "you've got to be kidding me, you're telling me that my mother is being penalized because she made an early payment at one of your banks!"
He said that's correct, it's in the fine print. I asked him to transfer me to someone above him, he said he was the head supervisor and there was no one else above him (We'll see about that).
I told him I would report them to the Attorney Generals Office, he said it's in the fine print. I told him that he is one of the most insensitive human beings I had ever spoken to; he didn't care he was cocky and thought he was a God with all this power. He didn't try to help out a customer with an outstanding record with Chase bank, a person who tried to do the right thing and pay her bill early BEFORE IT'S DUE DATE because she was having surgery.
This guy is a real winner! I will take this as far as I have to and tell the media and anyone who cares to listen that CHASE BANK HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS - EVEN THE ONES WHO PAY THEIR BILLS... EARLY.
I know that this man who was smug and rude will someday be treated the way he treats others. I am a true believe of what comes around goes around and someday (hopefully when he is an old man) someone will treat him with such disrespect as he did to my mom.

Fraud
In August 2006, my business received a call from Chase Bank about a Chase Platinum Business Visa. Did not suspect any fraud because we also received these same offers via mail. The sales representative said the card was pre-approved for $14K. I ask how was it pre-approved? I stated to him that it was my understanding that most unsecured business cards required a "personal guarantee, " and I stated to the sales rep that if that was the case I was not interested in applying. The Sales Rep said that this particular card DID NOT require a "personal guarantee, " and that the pre-approval was based on our company's DUN & Bradstreet number and that the company had been in existence for at least 3 years. We did the application over the phone in which I provided all the appropriate company info. To my knowledge, that phone call was recorded by Chase. I DID NOT provide any of my personal information other that my name and my co-worker's name to get a second card. A few days later, we received the cards in the mail. Everything with the cards seemed legit until this year (2008). After Hurricane Ike and the economic slowdown, my business' income dropped substantially and we missed a payment. The account was immediately turned over to collections. I talked to the collector, and she informed me that if the account went into 60 day delinquent, that it would affect my personal credit. I was confused because I NEVER provided Chase with any personal information for myself or co-worker. (We do have a Washington Mutual bank account, and Chase did buy WAMU out...maybe that is how they got it our info.) I then called Chase myself to find out if what the collector said was true. It was, so I asked how that info was obtained? She said it was listed on the application. That's funny because the application was done over the phone, and I did not provide Chase with any SSN's. I have written a letter to Chase to obtain a copy of that application. (Still waiting for a response.) I have never had any personal accounts or credit cards with Chase, so I am confused how they obtained that information. I would like to hear the recorded information when the application was taken. Is there anything else I can do? Was I a victim of fraud or shady business lending as seen in the mortgage industry? There is no way I would have opened this credit card account if I knew that I had to "personally guarantee" it. Has anyone else had this problem? Or something similar with another card/bank?

Overcharged
I am sick to my stomach today when A bank who gave me an offer for the life of my balance for 3.99% if I transfered a balance to them. I accepted this term and was also offered to 'write myself a check' for the life of the balance of 4.99%. I accepted these offers a few years ago and used some of the money to pay off another loan and do some work to my home.
I now have a balance of $9, 000.00 of which I have always paid more than the minimum payment and always paid on time. I was sick to see my January statement show double the minimum payment plus an $10.00 transaction fee! I called and was advised that Chase changed the terms and I could stay with the current terms or accept an offer of 7.99% until January 2011 after that it will be variable!
I advised her I have NEVER not paid on my account and have always paid on time. I don't understand how Chase can just change the terms of what I originally accepted and I stayed within the terms of the agreement. I was basically given the option to pay the $10.00 fee every month with 2% of the balance for the minimum payment or accept the 7.99% offer.
I have great credit and have never been late or not paid Any bill! I am getting penalized for being a good customer and paying my bill!! I guess they are not making enough money on be because i have not been late so they could not change my apr but went ahead and did it any way!
I had no choice and accepted the 7.99% but will be shopping for a new company to pay that off! stay away from Chase! They will change the terms when they do not make enough money off you. I will NEVER do business with Chase ever again!!! All I can hope is that there will be some great class action suit against them!

Idiotic Customer Service Practices
A problem arose when attempting to purchase gas at a station and both my Chase Credit Card (credit card account) and Chase Debit Card (debit account to my checking) were declined. I had over $6700.00 in my bank account at the time.
I called Chase.
The first call, the customer service person hung up on me in the middle of the call.
The second call, the customer service person had me verify who I was, and all the usual security stuff you'd expect. Here's an idiotic twist, though. When she asked me to verify my address, I said "4445 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, 60640."
She said, "Would you repeat that?" I repeated the above.
She then said, "What's missing?" I said, "What do you mean?"
She answered, "Chicago - where?"
I said, "Do you know of another Chicago? --- ILLINOIS!" I asked.
She then asked, "Where's Arlington?" I said, "Excuse Me?"
She repeated, "Where's Arlington?"
I said, "I get you're idiotic point, -- there are many Arlingtons, BUT HOW MANY 'CHICAGOS' ARE THERE???"
She then began to lecture me about how I didn't give my complete address and would have to give a complete address or she couldn't help me.
I couldn't believe that I was sitting here on the phone wasting me time over such a STUPID and IDIOTIC policy.
CHASE BANK is a waste of time. I realize you can't "assume" anything today. But to was my time and there's over something as stupid as this, especially after I had already verified my Social Security Number AND Password prior to all of this just to get to this point, is just plain STUPID.
If after all that information I had given them, they still couldn't know I wasn't an Imposter, what more "security" is there in me saying where "CHICAGO" is?????????
CHASE BANK --- STOP WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME!!!

Unethical practices
My credit card account was with WaMu (Washington Mutual) which now has been taken over by CHASE BANK USA. What happened honestly in my case is that I, a disabled senior became ill and before my husband drove me to the ER, I paid some of our bills that would be due at the 1st of the month and made a payment to WaMu, but apparently didn't press the enter key. I didn't want my husband to have to worry about anything in case I was admitted, which I was. 2 weeks later I looked up my account online to find that my payment was not credited. I called them immediately and told them (CHASE) what had happened to me and the fact that I have had my credit card with WaMu for several years, never been late, pay more than the min due, have a good FICO score and was concerned they would report this to the credit bureaus. I made a payment over the phone. The next thing, I receive my statement from which is now CHASE and they have put my APR at 27.24% (default rate) up from 11.94% which it was with Wamu. The customer rep was cold as ice...I was in tears...it didn't matter! I was told the following, " You now have to establish a good relationship with CHASE, it may take 1-2-3-4 yrs or more, IF AT ALL. I have written to my State Senators, The Attorney General etc. The lesson I have learned from this is to pay off the credit cards...may take time but I will do it...In addition to the "Bail Out", they are finding way's to take more money out of our pockets..Be watchful of your credit card statements and be active when you need to be..Ck out also ripoffreport.com and you can see all the complaints against CHASE. I understand from a radio program this am that there is a law firm in New York that is planning on filing a class action suit against them. I live in Nevada. If there is anyone from New York that perhaps see's an article re this in your newspaper and it names the law firm, please let me know.
Many Thanks!

CHanging Agreements
CHase is terrible. I've had a credit card with them for years. Not EVER a late payment and a whooping $121 balance, usually paid off at end of month. REcently my mortgage company mistakenly reported my mortgage payment being late. It takes 30 days for the credit bureaus to fix the error on your report. Chase knocked my available credit down from $10K to $500. Had they at least called me I could have faxed the letter from the mortgage company admitting the error. So not only does my own payment history not matter to them they'll change terms at whim!

Overcharged
Because of company layoffs I now work for a job that pays only 2/3 what I was making, there simply aren't any other jobs available. I've been surviving my Mortgage payments by depleting my life-long savings account.
I can't sell or refinance the home because it is now worth 25% less than what is owed.
Well, the savings are gone and I no longer can make the mortgage. I called Chase to discuss a loan modification BEFORE I begin missing payments. My hope was to reduce the loan interest rate to the prevailing interest rate. That would be enough to make up the difference in my salary so I would not miss any mortgage payments and the bank would not end up with a house valued at a fraction of what they loaned me to buy it.
Chase said they couldn't do anything. They are not doing 'any' loan modifications for interest rate. I asked what they were doing and they said, 'we can do nothing for you.'
Sadly, I will begin missing payments and will very soon have to file bankruptcy.
The government is spending $700 billion dollars to bail out banks but banks aren't doing anything in return to help their customers. Well, it's bad business to turn away a customer who is able to pay all of the principle loaned to him if he can just get the interest rate reduced to today's interest rate. Yes, they would make less money on the interest but they would make money nonetheless, and they would not end up with yet another worthless, foreclosed home.
Chase, you don't deserve the government bailout. You don't know how to manage your business. So Government, please stop giving them money. Let their creditors reposes their properties as they will soon reposes mine.
