Chase Bank Reviews

Unprofessional service
I was going to open an account in this bank. I was invited to talk by Abbas. I asked him to tell me about my options about different account types. He could not explain anything and called some woman who looked like him and she tried to sell me municipal bonds instead of explaining me what I was asking for. It was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional service by these 2 people. I just left and decided not to do a business with a bank who employs people like that.

Scam and fraud
I did a loan modification with Chase Bank back in March. I did not keep a copy of the contract and Chase refuses to send me a copy.

It took several months for Chase to do this loan modification to pay my escrow account. They are still reporting me past due each month in the bureau even though I am making adjustment payment amounts from $679.00 to $900.00. They say until I pay all the payments in escrow they will continue to report a delinquent account even though I am making the loan modification amount.

My complaint is when I look at the bureau it's not reporting me paying $900.00 on the loan modification account.

I no longer receive statements of any kind showing they are receiving $900.00 payments.

My account is showing delinquent every month. By June 2009, Chase will have reported me 540 days past due.

Is there anything I can do? How do I get a copy of my loan modification if Chase refuses to send it?

Bad service
If you have a problem don't use Chase.com web site to try to get an answer. They will not answer any question or help with a problem, like loan info. All you get is the run around. They answer quickly on their web site, but they only give you a case number, but don't tell you how to get an answer.

Rude bank manager
Tracy L. Buchheit is a very rude Bank Manager. I went to the bank to inquire about using a coupon for new accounts which gives miles. Whilst speaking with the Customer rep, Tracy the Bank manager came up to me and spoke very loud and rude saying that the coupon is only valid for one account and I cannot use it, and she will code my account as fraud. All I was asking the cust rep was to inquire if I can use the coupon, not expecting the manager to act the way she did in the presence of all the customers, thus no customer privacy was given to me and I was talked to as a little child. Mrs. Buchheit needs to know I am not a a person like her without class, I am a highly educated individual who have served this country in the Armed forces and currently a disabled veterans protecting people like her while she is sleeping.

Chase ID protection charge
I had my Chase amazon.com credit card June 2007. When I got the card, I called a number coming along with the credit card. - Maybe this call led to my purchase of the ID protection, but maybe not - I don't remember exactly. But very soon (June or July) when I found the ID protection charge of $11.99 on my statement, I called them to cancel the service immediately, because I would just stay in US for 1 year and I don't need to build my credit history.

However, about 3 months ago(Feb. or Mar.2008), I found Chase has been billing me $11.99 for the ID protection since July 2007. I immediately called the number 800 362 8182(ID protection department in chase) to cancel the membership again.

Yesterday(May 11, 2008), I found the bill is still on my bill statement. I called chase's customer service again to 1) cancel the membership again; 2) refund all the payment. But they told me that they don't have my records of canceling the service and only agree to refund me for two months. They said it's my fault that I didn't closely watch my statement.

Actually I seldom use this credit card. I trusted Chase and its service in the past and didn't know they would do so badly.

I have no reason to have such a service for two reasons. 1)I will go back to my home country next month and don't need to build my credit history in US. 2) I seldom used this credit card. For about 3 or 4 months out of my past 11 months using this card, the only bill is the ID protection.

I clearly remember I called Chase last July(or June), because I even joked to my friends that Chase was a bad sales to sell to a wrong customer. I also clearly remember I called Chase in Feb. or Mar. 2008, because I was already angry that time.

I don't check my bank statement often also for several reasons. 1) I trust chase. 2) I seldom use that credit card. The payment each month is too small for me to get alert. 3) I set up an automatic payment from my bank account to this credit card.

Terrible experience!
I wrote a balance transfer check from a Citi credit card account and deposited it to my Chase account on April 15 to pay Uncle Sam and unexpected tax bill. To make a long story short, due to a processing error at Citi, the check was returned. Unfortunately, this happened twice more, again a processing error at Citi - each time I was promised (by Citi) the check would post successfully.

Yes, Citi made a mistake but they immediately responded when I explained the action Chase was taken and wrote a letter acknowledging the errors and asking Chase to reverse any negative action taken against me. Chase has accused me of kiting and has frozen my account and is return all outstanding debits.

My funds have been frozen since May 9, 2008. NO ONE called me to discuss this with me. I fully understood how bad it looked to my bank to have three deposited checks for returned in a short period of time which is why I took action immediately to correct the situation... also why Citi took immediate action on my behalf.

I was a banker for more than 20 years, I understand that the system is set up to automatically catch kiting schemes, but the system isn't smart enough to listen to a reasonable explanation or read a letter of explanation. Humans are capable of this however and are capable of reversing system decisions. Chase representatives don't seem to understand that concept. Chase told me that if I had a letter of explanation from Citi, they would reverse the decision. Citi send the letter within 30 minutes of my request. 7 days later (after repeated conversations with representatives that assured me they were working on it) I was informed that the letter wasn't good enough and that my account will be closed on 5/23 at which time my balance will be sent to me via check. In the meantime, all outstanding checks and debits are being returned unpaid even though I have the money in the bank to cover them.

I have incurred more than $500 in fees due to this error and no one can help me. I have been accused and convicted of a fraudulent act and am now being penalized for it. I DID NOTHING WRONG. I acted in good faith based on information provided to me by Citi. I have no complaint against Citi. Everyone makes mistakes but a good, reputable company (like Citi) takes action to correct mistakes.

Chase has made a huge mistake in accusing me of something I didn't do and it has caused serious financial strain. I have not been able to touch one cent of my money since May 9. I can't pay bills, I can't use my debit card, I can't withdraw cash... nothing. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. Interestingly, Chase continues to send me all kinds of advertising wanting my business, portraying themselves as a great bank that cares about their clients. What a joke!

Do not use them
Chase charged me a $30 late fee because I paid my bill 8 days early! I have never paid them late, my payments are ALWAYS early and always at least 2-3 times what the min payment is! When I called to straighten out the matter, the staff was not at all helpful or sympathetic, nor was the "Supervisor" I spoke to. I was told my previous 2 payments had been applied to one statement b/c my payment was 8 days early, and there was NOTHING they could do about it because it was not a bank error!

DO NOT use Chase for you credit card/financial needs!

Ridiculous return fee!
My payment to Chase had been mistakenly charged to my savings account instead of my checking, like it should have been. And so, they send me a $40.00 "return" fee... when there is really nothing they had to "return".

Thats like going to a restaurant and accidentally handing the waiter the wrong credit card... Does he come back and tell you "your card was denied, so we are charging an additional $40.00 to your bill"? No, and that is a ridiculous amount to fine, when all that needed to happen, was someone to inform me that the payment wasn't accepted.

refuses to give me my IRA money
Over a year ago I completed my divorce.I was given the IRA that my ex husband did not spend, held at Chase Bank .
I brought in the settlement papers and the court order to Chase Bank of Channahon Il. for this account to come to me .
Chase ran me around and around, had me resubmit the papers three times and it has not followed up on its promises to settle this matter. The Chase bank has not paid any interest into my account in over a year and literally has stolen my money .
The bank president, a Mrs. Salinas does not answer my emails at all . the first employee had passed the buck to her. My paperwork was sent to Florida and lost somewhere. A check was cut but to the wrong person -it was made out to my my ex husband- instead of me !

The bank president, Mrs. Salinas told me they would fix it IF I sent back the check FED EX and said that I should have my money within a few weeks, guess what nothing was done NOTHing . I am in limbo and really hate this bank .It is 5 months later and no money no messages, nothing.
you have to really chase this bank to get your money back .

account I tried to get chase bank to give me my IRA account .

HIDDEN FEES
Following is a letter I wrote to Chase Bank. They have denied all responsibility. So if you are dealing with Chase Bank, JP Morgan Chase Bank or Chase Investment Services be sure that you read ALL the fine print and make a recording of all your phone calls or person-to-person meetings. I trusted this savings and trust. BIG MISTAKE...

Two of my three grandchildren have had secure savings accounts for years at what is now Chase Bank. They invested their hard earned dollars from baby-sitting, rolling up pennies, leaf raking, and other chores around the house plus their birthday and Christmas gifts into their own savings accounts. The oldest 14 year-old Tricia had saved $1, 217.63, and her younger sister 10-year old Alexis had saved $1.095.37. I decided to open a third savings account for the youngest 4 year-old Annabelle with $100.00 just like I had done for her sisters.

In September, 2007 when I went to Chase Bank to open a new account for Annabelle I was introduced to Alex Berry who was a Chase investment representative. Alex suggested that instead of opening another savings account I should invest all 3 girls savings into the College Choice plan offered by the bank. He made it sound so enticing that I withdrew all the funds from both girls’ savings and then added Annabelle to the list. All three girls were invested in this fund, which was supposed to be a great opportunity for them.

What Alex neglected to inform me was that Chase Bank would take almost 6% from each and every deposit made into the girls’ accounts for total commissions, underwriter commissions and servicing agent commissions. That’s a lot better interest than I was getting. I only learned about this when I received the first College Choice Confirmation Statement. Tricia’s initial deposit of $1, 217.63 was now only worth $1, 153.70, Alexis’s went from $1, 095.37 to $1037.89 and Annabelle’s $100 was reduced to $94.76. Presuming this must be a one-time charge I called Alex to verify this. That is when he informed me that each and every deposit would be treated the same. I then asked him about monthly service fees and he assured me that there were not any. He conveniently failed once again to mention the annual fees of $40.00 per account. In addition it was never revealed that these were not really savings accounts, but were actually tied to the stock market. I was not given any written information until I had signed all the necessary papers. And even then I blindly trusted Chase Bank and Alex Berry to look after my grandchildren’s money. In the end when I was finally able to get the girls’ savings returned to me they had lost a great deal of their hard-earned dollars AS DISPLAYED BELOW.

After 5 months the account settlements for Tricia, Alexis and Annabelle, respectively were:

Initial Contribution Commissions, Fees, Services,

and Stock Market Fluctuations Remainder

1, 217.63 (229.99) $987.23

1, 095.37 (248.33) $847.04

100.00 (92.34) $ 7.66

TOTAL LOSSES ($570.66) = to 24% reduction in value.

The accounts for my grandchildren would never have been opened had I been informed from the very beginning that:

There would be several commissions equal to almost 6% taken out from each and every deposit.
There would be service fees taken annually.
The accounts would be tied to the fluctuating stock market with all the risks involved.
The accounts would not be FDIC insured.

Each variable above would have been a deal breaker.

Why was I not informed of the risks, charges, fees, commissions, etc associated with this so-called savings plan for children? Clearly, if I had known this retired grandmother would never have invested so unwisely with her grandchildren’s futures. And, obviously Chase Bank and Alex Berry did not tell me because they were the ones to benefit either way. This is a sad commentary on the way reputable (?) banks and their representatives do business this day. Buyer beware has now become saver beware.

The only ethical solution for this situation would be to reopen the girls’ savings accounts with the remaining amounts and for Chase Bank to make up the difference. If this is not possible I will be closing our checking account that has been opened since the 1980’s and will be canceling all our Chase credit cards. I will no longer wish to do business with a bank that knowingly and willingly took advantage of children and their grandmother. Just like taking candy from a baby.

Sincerely yours,

Frances A. D’Angelo

Obviously Chase Bank chose not to make this right...
