Chase Credit Card Reviews

Vinny January 6, 2009
Fraud and scam
I was ripped off by chase credit cards. I opened couple accounts with Chase credit cards, chase freedom, chase freedom plus, countrywide credit card from chase, and BP Chase cards. When I am working on the rewards based on the rewards terms of the credit cards, they suddenly closed my accounts and take my rewards, $60 for the chase freedom, $110 from the chase freedom plus, $20 from BP credit cards, and $15 from BP credit cards, without any notice in front.

Bill recived late scam
I have been with chase for a number of years and have used their promotional checks wich gave me 2.9 to 4.9 fixed. I used one last month to pay off another credit card and later that month when my bill was due i did not recieve a bill. I later recived the bill 6 days after it was due, convieniently for them this null'd all my promotional APR's leaving me with 18, 000 in credit debt at 24.99 percent. Their constomer service center would not do anything about it stating that i "could have gone online and checked and saw that it was due". In the past i have always recieved my bills from them 6 days after the post date, this time i recived it 6 days after the due date... Ive been scammed.. this is actualy the 2nd time this has happend to me through chase, I guess i learned my lesson the hard way.. DONT DEAL WITH CHASE

CHARGES
WHY ARE CREDIT CARDS CHARGING FOR PHONE PAYMENTS WHEN USING AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM, THEY ARE TRYING TO CONTROL THE WAY BILLS ARE PD - THIS IS AN UNFAIR PRATICE.

What does it take to pay off my card
On July 11, 2008 I called Chase and asked how much I needed to pay my card off, and close my account since I was getting charged almost 29%. After paying over $8, 600.00, the amount I was told by the customer service rep. to pay, I received another bill for $28.00 a month later for interest! I was told if I did not pay it would accumulate late fees and eventually go against my credit. What do I do! I feel I cannot combat this, and have no alternative but to pay the fee. This is not right?

bad customer service
I have had an account with Chase for quite awhile now but I had a family emergency and when I needed help in terms of payments, I went to debt consolidation. It worked great for me until another big family emergency hit than I had to go off the debt consolidation as well. I decided to work with my credit cards instead of dealing with debt consol. All the banks were great except Chase, when I called them doing whatever possible to work with them, they pretty much told tough luck they already gave me a chance. I told them I willing to work with them but would not lower the APR which was already 30 percent and they would not lower the payments. Citicard was great, one phone call and they lowered the payment to 138 and O percent interest and they were on Debt consol. as well. I was so mad at Chase for not working with me and of course they called all the time everyday until it went to collections. Going to collections was actually a relief from Chase. Paying all my other debts were more important than Chase will ever be. I told THEM as well as everyone else, DO NOT OPEN A CHASE ACCOUNT EVER, just in case times get tough.

Beware and look at your statements
I just looked at my Chase credit card statement and noticed a $12.99 charge. When I called I was told that is by Privacy Guard and I needed to contact them directly. They also told me the charge has been monthly for two years! I called Privacy Guard and they told me that Chase Customer Service had verbally authorized them to do so. Called Chase back they said, the customer is responsible for such a requests! Well, I am fuming because I was in banking for 12 years, have a graduate degree, work in finance industry, and was at one time a Consumer Loan department supervisor. In addition I have "alert" on my credit reports which nobody can pull one without my signed permission. I am out over $300 and Chase which I am sure is benefiting from this union, is not willing to pay me back. Beware and look at your statements.

Late mail and late fees
I have been a Chase credit card holder for a number of years, and for 99% of that time there was never a problem. Suddenly in October of '07 I was hit with a late fee. I contacted Chase and was able to have this fee removed. Great! I then went searching for the cause of this trouble and found that I hadn't recieved my October '07 statement. I have a filing system, where, all monthly bills are kept in separate files, with notations as to when and how paid, check numbers and verification numbers or payment reciepts, and keep them for a minimum of 2 years. I figured that it must have been a postal error, or perhaps my wife misplaced the statement. (this would be the first time since I've known her) Then, after 3 months of things running smoothly, I recieved another statement with a late fee added. The payment for the month of February '08 had not been made. I checked again in my files and found thaat the statement for February was also missing. I contacted Chase again, but this time was unable to persuade the customer service agent to remove the late fee. I accepted this and decided I would transfer the balance to my local bank card and eliminate the possibility of a recurrence. I went on, 3/18/08, to my local financial institution and arranged for a transfer and consolidation from Chase. Several days later I recieved a notice stating that a check had been cut on 3/20/08, and that it had been sent. Then, I recieved another shock. I expected to recieve another statement from Chase for interest on the previous balance that had been carried into the month of March. Surprise of surprises, there was another late fee. According to the customer service representative to whom I spoke, the payment had arrived and been processed one day after it was due. Incredible as it sounds, it took a full week for the payment to get from Boston to Wilmington Delaware, when it takes four days for it to reach them when I place it in my rural mailbox.(this is shown as being accurate by the dates on my checking account statements) This is the box that stands at the end of my driveway, with the little flag on the side for notifying my local carrier I have mail to go, and which he occasionally ignores. Chase is a very large financial institution, and has a responsibility to its own clients and shareholders, but when suspicion becomes epidemic for me I must move on. I no longer trust Chase, and can no longer deal with their intransigence. I hope many others of you decide also to sever ties and move your accounts closer to home. As for me, I will take all the colorful metaphors about Chase, that are racing through my brain and try to turn them to a positive outcome. Goodbye Chase. I, personally, hope that you fair poorly.

Promotional interest rate scam!
In 1/08, I applied on-line for a 0% APR Credit Card from Chase. I received a credit card and a check from Chase. The credit card said I was approved for $13, 000 and Chase included the check to use for a balance transfer. The afternoon of 2/14/08 I deposited the Chase check for the balance transfer into my Wells Fargo Account. On 2/16/08, I went on-line to AT & T Universal to transfer funds to pay off the AT & T account. I discovered on 1/23/08 had already transferred the balance for me. I had inadvertently duplicated their efforts by writing a check for $13, 000. On 2/16/08 I called Chase Customer Service and explained to Chase Customer Service what happened. They put a stop-payment on the check which had not entered their system, so I would not be charged. The following Wednesday, 2/20, I established my on-line account with Chase. It was then that I discovered the $75.00 fee for the balance transfer. I went ahead and submitted a payment from my checking account for $200.00 for 3/7/08. The on-line payment system did not specify an amount due. On Tuesday, 3/25/08, I received a telephone call, at work, from Chase informing me that I was delinquent on my Chase account because I had only paid $200 and a $247 payment had been due on 3/7/08. I was now delinquent $47.00. It was then that I learned that my 0% APR was 11.4% because I had not lived up to the terms and had shorted them $47.00 on my payment. I had never received a single bill or statement to advise me that a payment needed to be paid. I was also being charged a late fee of $39.00. Chase asked if they could debit my checking account for the payment. Following the call I contacted Chase Customer Service and confirmed the APR adjustment and fees. Chase waived the $39 late fee, but would not make any further adjustments to the APR nor to the.$39 check return fee. I am paying much more in fees in interest now than with my AT &T Universal Credit Card. I looked at my account on-line the following day and discovered that Customer Service had not credit the late fee to my balance.

Company does not respond to my query!
I have been calling Chase at their Correspondence Department - 800-238-3267. The number disconnects you before you get to connect to anyone because of high call volume. I have also faxed their Correspondence Department numerous times at 888-643-9628. The reason I have been so persistent in contacting them is because they owe me money from a refund check. The check had a stop payment placed on it because I received it too late to deposit it, so when I did deposit it, I was charged a fee and subsequently I did not get my refund. To top matters is that my account was closed and no one can tell me why.

I have been calling Chase for the past MANY months. None of the representatives are able to assist me with my query. All they do is provide me with phone numbers of different departments. It is annoying to be constantly passed around.

Intentionally waiting to post payments!
As I read the complaints before me, it seams like we are dealing with the same crappy customer service people. First of all, this is the second time this has happened to me. My bank sends a payment to Chase 5 days before the due date. They send it electronically. Chase does not apply the payment till after the due date. They then add a late charge and then change my rate to the default 30%. When you call to show them the proof of payment, they say there is nothing they can do. The rep was rude and acted like I was taking money from her paycheck. It took 20 minutes to get her to give me a supervisor. I was on hold for 6 minutes before she picked up. I started over. Very nicely I might add and what I got was" I cant do anything about that" Ever since Bank One was taken over, their service has gone straight down the toilet. I could not get a rep to call me back about refinancing my house. The loan officer at my branch!!! So I refinanced with another lender. Then I started getting charged for my free checking. Guess what. I closed that. Then they said they were raising my interest rate on my credit card since I used a different card to consolidate some debt.. The month before they sent me checks at 2.9% and begged me to use their card to consolidate. They gave me $8000 more credit. They sent checks every month for 6 months. When I used a different card, they got vindictive. I have told every officer I know not to bank with Chase. I have a credit score of 745 and get treated like I have a 445. We make over $100,000 a year. I guess I'm not good enough for Chase Bank. My advise: Get out. Spread the word. Go to USAA or your local credit union where they will get to know you.
