CheapOAir Reviews

Overbilling and fraud!
On February 3rd 2008 we purchased 2 tickets to the Phillippines totaling $2400. Customer service was OK during the payment phase. Later, on the 5th of February, 2008 we noticed we were billed 2 other charges totaling $1019.80, with no explanation. We used our Visa CheckCard, and my checking account was drained completely from that overcharge. We have tried continuously for 3 days to contact Customer Service with no luck, and no explanations of the charges. They were confirmed by our credit union as charged by CheapOair. When they returned my call about the overcharges, the caller I.D. had the name "JEN NY", rather than Cheapoair. The fly-by-night company has made no effort to reimburse the unauthorized charges. Because I am a police officer I suspected fraud after seeing the charges, and other information that raised red flags. I have contacted the Virginia Attorney General's office and intend to file criminal fraud charges against Cheapoair and it's parent companies and officers by February 10th. No further calls have been returned by the company and it is obvious they have caller I.D. as they have not answered ANY calls I have made to the "billing office". I am still out $1019.80. Please stay away from this "company".

Incompetence and poor service!
God help you if CheapO gets your money and you then need to talk to them. It take smultiple calls to get through to a a number that is a toll call (no 800 number). Once you do, there will be some very long waits,l only to be disconnected. When you do talk to someone, you'll get several transfers to someone else who will disconnect you once or twice along the way. Lousey connections will make it hard to understand the person on th other end of the line (Who will qalso quite likely not be an native English speaker).

After hours (Yes, honestly hours!) of this, you get to hear that you will have to call the airline directly. When you do, they'll tell you that you have to call CheapO.

After days (honestly, days!) of this you will be told that you'll have to pay more, way, way more, to have CheapO straighten out the itinerary that they screwed up. If you ever had to call them from outside U.S., you might not ever get home.

Complaints about these flakes are all over the Internet like a bad rash.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

Fraud and extortion.
This place literally tried to extort $425 from me, i was trying to rebook a missed flight aagter being told the insurance on the trip i bought did not apply, and they were saying HURRY AND SEND ME EMAIL SAYING "I AUTHORIZE SHANNEN AT CHEAPOAIR TI CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL $425 on my VISA". the airline only charged $100. I hate these people. Also, the fares charged to your card average $150 higher than what you think you are buying. Beware!

Fraud and poor customer service!
I got a 'great' deal off of this site. But that's where is the problem started. I needed to change my ticket and I was charged a hefty penalty for it (which was in their contract) --- I let it go because I had no choice since my ticket was non-refundable.
What happened is that instead of changing my ticket, they issued me a new one and charged me the price of a new ticket!! I have been trying to get my money back for 3 months and I am getting the run around.

Furthermore, my itinerary changed because the flight I booked was delisted. Cheapoair did not inform me until 10 days before my departure. I called the airlines and they told me that they contacted that Agency 2 months before my flight to inform them that they flight was Relisted. But Cheapoair never changed it back and did not inform me. I am looking into sending more complaints with the members they are associated with.

I would NOT recommend them even if you do not care about the price of your ticket or how simple your travel plans maybe.

Dirty dealing, lying and fraud
Please oh please don't do business with this company! My husband and I are trying to get back from our long holiday in Slovenia and bought tickets from Cheapoair.

They say they have issued the e-tickets (false ones it seems because Czech Air has no record of a reservation being made under my husband's name).

The charges are on his credit card, but the e-ticket numbers are false.

They've been harrassing us for a scan or fax of our passports and credit card for "security and verification purposes" which is usually a red flag, but we are desperate to get back so we tried it. We tried to fax them 6 times--they wouldn't give us their international fax code, and each time we tried to fax them it bounced back.

Now they claim they have our card authorization form but no passport/card scan and are threatening to cancel our trip and say they "bear no responsibility for cancellation charges."

I don't know why, if they say all this hoop jumping is for "our security" against "false charges on our credit card" why in the name of all that's good did they charge our card, give us false e-tickets all before verifying our identity!

They are seriously shady, and should be put out of business.

I wonder if this is all a scam just to collect a few hundred dollars worth of cancellation fees.

Excessive fees, deceptive pricing
Like others here who have complained about CheapOair, I found what I thought was a good deal only to discover upon reaching the purchase screen that its fees and taxes amounted to nearly $100 per ticket, that is a third of the total purchase for two tickets.

It's at least questionable to me that CheapOair chooses to display flights without a real indication of the true cost and, more troubling, charges a sky-high $25 service fee per ticket, five times what the leading discount travel sites charge. Ostensibly this is for premium customer service, but as we've all seen here, CheapOair appears to have service far inferior to what travel site customers have come to expect. I'd like to see CheapOair respond to these complaints and justify their fee structure. The company doesn't even publish an 800 number.

Poor service!
I booked a flight for two on 10/8/2007. During the process, the price on the quote screen and the price once the flight time was selected was immediately adjusted (up). I too tried this process several times and the price continued to change from the stated initial screen price.

Once the fights were booked I received confirmation with my booking number. The flights were booked at 1 p.m. I printed off the confirmation and did not return to my email until the 10th.

I discovered Cheapoair sent two emails to notify me the charge was declined.
I contacted the credit card company (AMEX) who assured me there was no reason the charge should have been declined. In fact the available credit was in the thousands. I had 5 other minor purchases that day, none declined.
When I complained to CheapoAir, the representative was short rude and unwilling to assist me with moving up the chain. He suggested I repurchase the tickets for $100 dollars more.

I will attempt to speak to a person with authority this morning following opening of business.

I can not recommend booking with CheapoAir!!!

Refund issues!
This all started because I wanted to CHANGE my arrival time by 1.5 hours. See my email to Cheapoair and by the way, I still don't have my refund yet. I was told on 7/12 that I would be charged a $100 cancellation fee since I was changing my arrival time on my flight within 24 hours. At Cheapoair's request I canceled the booking #502367 and re booked with the correct time. I was then asked to send an email to [email protected] requesting the cancellation and acknowledging the $100 fee which I did at 10:17pm on 7/12.

I've been trying to get a status on my refund for booking #502367 since 7/17/07 (more than 6 weeks). I've emailed twice 7/17/07 and 7/19/07 - no response) and called numerous times including 8/14, 8/15, 8/22). I was placed on hold forever (once for over an hour) and disconnected several times. When I did reach someone I was always told that my refund was being processed, but it would take up to 6 weeks to get it back. I was even told by Perry that it may take until the end of August which would be 8 weeks although Cheapoair's website states approx. 4-6 weeks.

6 weeks later and NOW I'm being told that it will take an additional 3 weeks due to some internal errors at Cheapair AND that I had not sent back my canceled ticket. Well NO ONE ever told me that I needed to send the ticket back which I would have done immediately. Again, I've been in communication with your company for weeks and wasn't until I talked to Philip on 8/22 that I was ever told to send the ticket back.

On 8/22/07,I overnighted the ticket back to Cheapoair and received confirmation that it was received on 8/23.

On 8/23 after the receipt of my ticket I was then told by Philip that the airline would deduct $200 from my refund for the cancellation which no one at Cheapoair ever told me. They only told me about the $100 cancellation fee from Cheapoair. Again, I was only changing my flight time NOT canceling my trip. By now I'm very frustrated and disappointed with your company and it's service with the exception of Philip how has tried to help. I would have NEVER changed by flight time if I had known it would have cost me an additional $300. Sorry, but getting into Milan 1.5 hours earlier would not have been worth it. Philp said that he would try to get the some of the $200 refunded from my current booking, but the key word was 'try' which he didn't even mention in his email to me.

I do not feel I should be charged a fee AT ALL especially one that I was never made aware of or approved. Again, I've been in dealing with Cheapoair for over 6 weeks!! At this point the following people will be contacted and will be made aware of this horrendous service (again with the exception of Philip); Ram Peddinit (Head of Call Center), Steve Lanzalotto (Director of Operations), Werner Kunz (Chief Strategy Officer) and Sam Jain (CEO). I'm also contacting Consumer Affairs.

This is the first and last time I will ever use our site and I will make all of my friends, families and associates aware of how I was treated. It's a simple refund and should not have been this time consuming and stressful to take care of.

Customer service blows!
Cheapoair got my name completely wrong on my multiple destination tickets. Instead of my name they had some code, H2K, instead. Then they expected ME TO PAY for all three name changes!

They directed me to the airlines, who couldn't change the name anyways because technically I didn't book it, cheapoair did. Then after waiting on hold for 1 hour everytime I called, customer service did NOTHING. Two hours before departure someone called and said they "fixed" the problem, but out of my three tickets, one still had my name WRONG and I almost got booted off the flight! NEVER use CHEAPOAIR!!!
