Unsafe car/careless employees w/ GM
I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer that I purchased from a dealership used in 2004. I have had problems with this car since the 1st week I purchased it. The entire 1st year that I had the car, I drove rental cars from the dealership more then my new/used SUV!!! Every time the car was towed to the dealership for what was re-occuring for me, they some how managed to never find the same thing wrong with the car twice! The car would be towed for the same reason every time. It would just break down. The car would not start again, the clock would re set to 12 and it would sound like it was started and were able to get the car in reverse but the steering wheel was locked and you could not move it. The dealership would have the car for a week, tell me they changed something or checked everything and send me on my way...the following week or 2, I'd be right back at square one, waiting in a parking lot for my car to be towed to the dealership and for me to sign more paperwork for a rental car. This car is definately a LEMON! But the dealership was sneaky about making sure not to have the same problem logged more than once. I even did a car fax report on it and there was nothing. After a few years, the car would just stop starting if you drove a short distance, say from my house to the gas station is about 3 minutes. I'd turn the car off to get gas and when I was done pumping the gas, the car wouldn't start...it would take approx. 5 mins for the car to start again. I'd be sitting at the gas station pump holding up the line of people waiting to get gas for about 5 mins then the car would start back up. But, when the car would start an odor of gas and other fumes would come thru the vents (nothing would be turned on...air/heat/radio) and then it would eventually go away. The engine also makes a tick noise that no one has every been able to figure out. Sounds like the car is going to blow up. This past year has been the worst, the car would just shut off even while I was in the middle of turning in an intersection! And the battery that had supposidly replaced 14 months ago was so expanded it could have exploded. Finally someone looked into this a little further and saw a recall notice stating there could be something wrong with the steering column which to mean would explain why the steering wheel would lock up and also if there was a loose wire it could be draining the battery. Sure enough, one of the 1st times my car was towed to the dealership & they looked around thru the steering column, something must have broke & there was a piece in there that was tripping the wires. Now my car has been out of warranty for a long time & the dealership I purchased it from is no longer in business. So I called GM/Chevy and asked how I can get refunded for the past years of hell and an unsafe car they allowed to pass all inspections & sell! They told me if I went to a GM specialist to have it diagnosed they possibly could refund me for that however since I have over 100, 000 miles it would be rare that I would get any type of money back, more or less I would get an apology letter. I had an appointment scheduled with the GM specialist but I could not take the risk of my car breaking down in the middle of an intersection again and had to go to a place near by and explained this to the customer service person at GM - I guess safety doesn't mean anything to them because no one has ever contacted me about it again. Now 6 months after I thought I finally had all of the problems fixed, my gas tank back flowed and I had to once again go to a shop & have it fixed where then again the car stopped working again! Now they are going to possibly replace the fuel pump. You would think I'm driving a car from the 80's not a 2002!!! I think it is totally obnoxious of GM/Chevy to not have any concern that I have been driving an unsafe vehicle and I have had to put every $ in it to fix it (which I am not covered under warranty so it is expected) and they do not have the courtesy to contact me to see how everything worked out.
