For more than 30 years my late husband and I had a joint Chevron gas credit card. He passed away 7 years ago but I continued to use and pay this credit card. Since Chevron turned their accounts to GE Money, that's when the problem started. They started charging my account, $29.00 late charges. Never had any late charges with this card before. I have always mailed my payment on time, but they claim, they received the payment a day late or was posted a day late, thus the late charge.
I called the company in December and asked them to waive the late charge fee since I have been consistent in paying my account on time, until this late mail incident. I also told the operator that maybe it's time I remove my husband's name on this account since he's been dead for seven years. Operator said, the only way to do that is to close the old account and open a new one, but that I should still be responsible in paying off the old account, which of course I agreed. Operator also agreed to waive the late $29.00 late fee charge. I subsequenly mailed the full payment to the old account the same week.
When I received my first statement for the new account in January, it was over $200.00 more than I expected plus the new charges. They did not credit my old account with the last payment, they also added on late fee charges. I called them immediately and they said they cannot do anything about it because the account is already closed. And since my husband is already dead and that he was the primary card holder, they sent me to the PROBATE DEPT. I called probate dept. and they said, they will credit my account. Next statement came, and no credit on my account but had another $30.00 late charge. I called again, and they said I have to contact PROBATE dept. because they cannot do anything except probate. I have been given the run around. I called Probate several times but all I get is a run around, and "I cannot do anything, call probate" answer. I got tired of it, so I consulted a lawyer who wrote them a letter to refund my money back.
The answer they sent me was a ridiculous form letter letting me know that in order for my claim to be processed I need a Special Power of Attorney and some other notarized Real Special Power of Attorney and da da da da other documentation authorizing me to represent me or my husband.
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS RUN AROUND. ALL I WANT IS TO GET A REFUND OF MY MONEY. I have not used the card since, but in the mean time, they keep on charging me late charge fees, and my account just keeps building up. CAN SOMEBODY OUT THERE HELP ME?
