Fraud
I ordered a pair of boyfriend AG jeans @$229 back in '08. When ordering it said they were on backorder. That should have been my clue. I would call every week to check the status of my order and got the same bull answer they were on backorder at first and then the phone would just ring and ring or I would leave message with no return phone call. Months went by when I got fed up and called AMEX and even though it was past 3 months they were able to get my $229 back on my card. Always use AMEX for on-line purchases. I believe they thought they got away stealing my money but I'm a lot smarter than Chickdowntown. My advise go directly to the brand sight and forget about sights like Chickdowntown, Shopbop...etc.

Dishonest business practices
Stole my money! I bought a gift card for over $160 from the website back in March 2009. When I tried to use it a little over a year later, the code did not work. When I contacted them, they stated that they were a "new business" and did not honor my gift card. I sent them the original gift card itself and supplied all my account information. However, they stated that they had no way of validating the codes and informed me that my gift card must have expired. In California, it is illegal to have expiration dates on gift cards! I filed a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. Chickdowntown employs unethical business practices!

didn't get what I ordered
I placed an online order with Chickdowntown for a plaid top by Elizabeth & James - the ordering system showed that the item I ordered was in stock in my size. Placed the order and waited...and waited...and waited for two months total. I called chickdowntown twice to ascertain the order status to be told that it was coming soon. After 3 weeks of waiting I called them back only to be told that the item was sold out and on backorder which should be arriving at chickdowntown in 1 month. So I waited as I mentioned above for a few weeks more - for a total of 2 months - and then cancelled the order.

I didn't have a credit card refund or chargeback problem with them since they never charged my card to begin with. I mean, if I hadn't cancelled the order, I guess I may have eventually received the top, but would have gotten it for free??? Anyway, they had sent me a discount code that I could use for a future order which I didn't use either since I cancelled the first order. I let them know they needed to cancel this code because I wasn't going to use it (the discount code was a special - order anything over $150 and you get a 50 percent discount off your next purchase).

I've read a lot of bad things about chickdowntown and read some questionable postings by one "Amy" who is supposed to be the owner.
Here is a link to an article in the Pittsburg Business Times about chickdowntown and the lawsuits against it:
http://pittsburgh.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2009/03/09/story10.html

There are other complaints noted against them on the Better Business Bureau's online site:

In any case, this country has entered severe economic times and its really really bad for an outfit like chickdowntown to be going into a business climate like this with a terrible reputation as an online e-tailer. At this point in history, there is no room for error in business and the negative comments I've read here and elsewhere like Belle's Capitol Hill Style blog do not portend well for a company that sells high-dollar items. http://capitolhillstyle.wordpress.com/?s=chickdowntown

Fraud, liars and terrible service!
Chickdowntown is TERRIBLE. I will never shop with them again. I have ordered from them 3 times and 2 of those 3 orders have been absolute nightmares! I ordered a blouse and a pair of jeans for the 1st order-both were in-stock- paid for both- both were stated to be "shipped"- received only the blouse.

It took me hours and hours on the phone- literally HUNDREDS of phone calls (because they DO NOT answer their phone)- filing with my credit card company AND with the BBB, to finally get my money refunded.

What is even worse, is that you never know whether or not you are going to be put through this misery because things they SAY they have "in-stock" are often back-ordered or out-of-stock. So they allow you to pay in full, and then when you don't receive your items they inform you that they are "back-ordered."

I gave Chickdowntown MANY chances to redeem itself, and it consistently left me with a HUGE headache! I am also sure that if I did not consistently pursue them to get my refund (which took 4 months to get) that they would have held onto the money like nothing ever happened.

Seriously people- there are so many better online shopping boutiques out there. This one is AWFUL. Never Again!!!

Fraun
I purchased - unknowingly - an item that was not in stock for $109.00. After the item had not arrived for over one month since purchase, I demanded my money back. After multiple emails and phone calls, I finally received an email reply that I would be refunded the money. I HAVE YET TO SEE THAT REFUND!!! No product and no money back and now they won't answer my emails or phone calls. I am seeking legal consultation out of sheer principle!!! Please beware when you shop here! I wish that I had read the other complaints before I ever even visited this website! BEWARE!!!

Liars, Thieves, Bad Business
This is a classic case of a company with an owner who thought she could run a business and can't. She started undercapitalized, her experience was not enough and her buying skills were terrible. Bought too many high priced items that couldn't be sold. Concentrated efforts on advertising without doing research and blew her startup money at a rate too high to pay vendors and customers returning items back.

This store is one tiny step from bankruptcy. Do not order from them. They are taking the money and paying outstanding bills with it, but not paying their vendors so they don't have the clothes to ship to the customers whose money they took! They're tangled up in a web of their own lies and bills. Don't let yourself get caught in it no matter how good the sales appear to be. Trust me, I was burned and my CC company had to intervene. It was stressful and time consuming.

Awful customer service
Awful customer experience with chickdowntown.com. I have made an order with that web site and one item which was 94 USD bracelet was not included in the package when it arrived. The Fedex package was safe with no damages, and the bracelet was not mentioned on the commercial invoice attached to the box. The bracelet was listed in the packing slip document inside the package though. I have contacted them 2 times via email and 2 times via the web site but it's been 5 days and they never answered however for each time I contacted them via the web site I received auto reply where they promised to answer my inquiry within 24 hours but it never happened.
