Tonight, September 12, 2008, at 11:30pm I went to Chuck Mercier’s 76 that I frequent to purchase gas, I asked for twenty five (25) dollars on pump number seven (7) and gave my debit card, the employee asked me “debit or credit” and I stated that credit was fine knowing that the merchant fees are cheaper when you use credit, and the attendant asked me for my ID, I gave him my ID and saw that he was writing down my CA Drivers License number on a piece of paper, I guess it was the receipt but at the time I could not see the paper, I asked politely why he was writing down my CD DL number he proceeded to say " I don’t know, my boss told me to and I don’t question him" I said "really chuck asked you to do that now?" I know the owner of this gas station because my husband and I were going to rent one of his properties in Burbank, very close to this gas station. The employee then trough my bank card and debit card in the box because it was late that door was closed and they use the outside box to communicate and to do transactions, then while I was reaching in the box for my cards he looks past me to help the next person and completely ignored me and dismissed my presents. I pumped my gas and decided to go and ask this employee why he was so rude and why he couldn’t explain to me the reason why he wrote my information on a piece of paper, with the ongoing problem in America today with identity theft I feel that I should receive a VAILD explanation of someone copying my information. The conversation with this ignorant clerk got heated, I simply stated "why do you have to be so rude, if I’m asking you a simple question?" he stated " don’t question me, don’t tell me what I need to do or what I am, get out of my face" (mind you he his behind glass with a microphone) " I said again I asked you a valid question I feel I deserve and answer, what is your problem!?" He said " I don’t have to tell you shit!" I said "really what the hell is your problem; you are so rude, what is your name?" He said " None of your business!" I said "really none of my business, I’m calling your boss Chuck right now when I leave and we will see" He said again " Im done with you! " and made some hand gestures and brushed me off. I went through my phone to try to find the owners number and of course couldn’t find it, which really sucks. I cant believe someone so rude and ignorant is working at this great gas station, the owner is so nice, I cant believe this clerk could not explain to me why he wrote my CA DL number down, I personally am scared of getting my identity compromised, I have already like so many other Americas have been a victim of identity fraud. I hope in some way this compliant can be reviewed by corporate 76 (conoco phillips), but I tried to contact corporate, but had no luck? Hopefully someone reading this can give me some advise on what to do or who to complain to where this matter can be resolved, its not fair that I was treated so horrible and, why I couldn’t get this clerk to understand where I was coming from with my simple question.
