Scam and cheating
A relative brought my daughter a walker and she ordered online through Circut City. Well when It got her I was all excited but there was one problem when I opened it. It was nasty used. Yes I said nasty used. I didn't even want to tough it. So I emailed my fathers wife and sent pictures along with it. it was horrible I will never order anything from them ever.

I did send it back but the *** kicker is that I had to go to the store to return it and they did return the funds back to her credit card. but that was a waste if time for sure. They just lost a customer that they never even had.

Bad service
Early last year, I purchased a Samsung NV3 digital camera from a Circuit City store in Columbus, Ohio off of Polaris Parkway. I was informed by the associate of the details regarding the Advantage Plan PLUS for 4 years. He described being fully covered for the entire length of the 4 year Advantage Plan. Also, if I had any trouble, just come to any Circuit City store and they will help me.

As I soon found out, about 1 year later when my camera broke and right before a wedding, the story changes. You can only get your camera fixed by calling a 1-800 number and by sending your equipment in via mail. The manager at the baltimore location also said I should have a back up camera in case I would ever need one. I could not believe they were trying to sell me a digital camera in case mine broke, when I purchased a Plan to protect me in case mine broke. Completely the wrong answer I was looking for at the time. This was the first indication I made a mistake by purchasing the Advantage Plan.

Secondly, after sending my camera via mail to have it fixed, I was never notified about any progress (which was promised when I called and set up my claim), and also much much longer than the time frame given to me.

Thirdly, Circuit City deemed the camera to be replaced, and a gift card was (supposedly) sent to me (still waiting). I was quite happy at this point something actually good came out of buying the Advantage Plan, however, when I called to check on the status of my claim, I knew enough to ask how the remainder of my 4 year Advantage Plan Plus was going to work. They stated the Plan stops anytime your equipment is not able to be fixed.

Instead of Circuit City paying to have it fixed, its more beneficial for them to just replace less expensive equipment so that the warranty stops and the consumer will have to purchase another Advantage Plan.

I am the fool who purchased a 4 year Advantage Plan Plus for $104.99 on a $199.99 digital camera. That wouldn't have been a bad deal if I was actually covered for up to 4 years. However, Circuit City is quick to just replace the equipment so that the consumer is now stuck with yet another decision of 'Should I purchase another 4 year plan'? My now-educated answer: NO!

I want my 4 yr Advantage Plan Plus pro-rated for the 3 years I am not covered. Or at least, refund me the difference between the 2 year plan and the 4 year plan. I would have had the same horrible service either way!

Fraud protection policy for TV
Oct of 2006 purchased TV protection policy for 50 inch DLP Samsung TV $250 for plan for 2 yrs. Picture started to get dim and dimmer, called the tele no in the booklet on Sept 15 after calling off and on for four hours. Finally got them they sent a TV service at Pembroke they came on Sept 17 said lamp was fading and would order same. Today is Oct 6 I was given a case number, I called it they said the TV service said the lamp came in damaged would order another one. After I complained they said the policy does not specify date or time TV to be repaired, I asked you mean maybe never, she said yes.
Big mistake to buy anything from Circuit City and absolut ely stupid to buy ANY protection from any store for a TV.

Bad service
I brought a Motorola Modern from Circuit City through online, and there were rebate forms available to download. But after I downloaded the rebate forms and sent in the required documents including the confirmation email, which is the email letter of the receipt, they sent me a letter saying that the purchase location was invalid and my rebates can not be sent. I did not save a copy of the rebate form, so I went to check the link for the rebate form, and it is no longer working.

I brought this product is just because it has the rebate, without the rebate, it cost twice much compared to the other stores. So, the rebate form that is available for circuit city online purchase is unreliable and everyone should be awared.

Awful everything
I purchased a receiver online at CircuitCity.com. I received the item promptly, but although it was the correct model number it did not have what the ad listed said it did. I called customer service and they said to return it to the store. I did and spent an extra $150 in store on a different item, however they would not refund my shipping. I call the customer service back and they say they will not do anything in any form, refund, gift card or other. I have no problems with this if it were my fault, but it is their site that is showing false information. Such a simple thing and Circuit City has lost the rest of my business.

Awful workers
I have an hp DV9429US that originally was supposed to run Windows Vista. As a software developer I support many applications written in C# using the .NET framework 1.1, which vista doesn't support. I made a clean install with Windows XP and loaded all the factory drivers for my hardware.

Several months later my laptop started to freeze up. After numerous tests I concluded it was a hardware defect, which only HP could fix. I brought it to the Firedog Team since I purchased the laptop at Circuit City and it was still in warranty.

After conducting tests on my laptop for a week, the local Firedog techs decided to send it to their main repair depot in Texas. It took the depot about a whole week to assign a technician to do the repair. Upon testing the technician concluded that there is no problem with my hardware and decided to take matter in his own hands. He reinstalled the factory OS Image of Vista, wiping out all my work and rendering the machine useless for development (more like support at this point) of applications written with the .NET 1.1 framework. The tech also cleaned my fans (sprayed them with compressed air) and reseated the memory modules, which is kind of useless.

After booting the laptop, I realized that the only thing the tech did was to reload the factory os. Moreover, he was so lazy that he didn't even patch the os, install the latest drivers, or the critical windows updates (some 300MB or so worth of updates).

Although the tech ran the computer for two days and watched two dvd's in order to check for the freezing problem (according to the work manifest), he never did a single stress tests. The laptop froze immediately after running about seven applications at once.

Currently I still have a broken laptop and I lost all my work (as well as 3 weeks of down time while being out of commission). I have to still deal with the Firedog team in order to get it fixed, but noone will compensate me for my troubles.

Bad service
This is the SECOND time I've been screwed over by an extended warranty for a computer from Circuit City. The 1st time was for a desktop. They gave me the run around, it's your ISP, it's your software. Well, it wasn't, it was the hard drive & by the time I knew it, because it gave out completely, the warranty had expired. Now, with the laptop, I found out the guy who sold it to me lied. I didn't want the extended contract, but he said I would get 1 free battery replacement as part of a check up where they would 'tune up' the laptop, which would make it worth it. Turns out, it's only for a defective battery, & the 2 phone calls I've made have told me something different than what my local store told me today. Each person making it harder for me to get coverage. Also, the local store told me all the extended warranty's really good for is a free virus scan, no cleaning up the computer files, etc. like was stated when I bought the computer. What a rip! Don't believe anything they tell you or what they even have in the contract. They will do all they can to give you the run around & weasle out of doing anything for you.

Terrible company
Went to Circuit City to buy our first computer, the sales man and the manager were explaining more about their "WARRANTY AND UPGRADES" rather then listening to our needs, pushing it that it got to a point that they pushed us out the store, knowing more about upgrades and their warranty then us wanting just to get our first computer, extremely disappointed that, their leaders in the store just care about warranties and upgrades an not about what the customer needs, so i took my business to "BEST BUY" was very "HAPPY"! I will never shop at Circuit City "EVER"!!!

Scam and cheating
I am a current employee of Circuit City. I am a Firedog. I'm a very honest person. I always, always sell the customer the right things that they need. I never over-sell a customer UNLESS my manager is watching. See...we have meetings about once a month on how to upsell people. They teach us techniques that will convince the buyer into getting a four year warranty that they don't need at all. Oh yeah... they make us call it, 'Circuit City Protection Plan' so that it doesn't sound like, 'warranty'.

One thing that I hate about my job is getting in trouble for my sale's numbers being too low. I have to upsell someone 3 - 7 times a week. If I don't, they cut my hours down very low. I was working 32 hours a week once... I didn't upsell anyone for one week... and they cut my hours to about 17 hours per week. I don't like lying to people, but to keep my job... I have to. I need the money to pay for my car, college and gas.

We learn this method of getting rid of people that don't fall for the upsale. All of our expensive things are in the warehouse... and if a customer doesn't fall for the upsale we are trained to either,

A.) Tell them we don't have any in stock.
B.) Tell the customer that we will be right back... but go to the breakroom for 5-10min in hope that the customer leaves or asks someone else for help.
C.) Get a manager to 'help' us with the sale.

In my opinion, this sucks. It makes me think about when I was younger shopping around with my Mom if that happened to her and I? I've wanted to work at Circuit City since I was 12 buying my first PlayStation 1 game.

Everyone at my store plays around all day. My managers are never to be found. Managers are the only ones with keys to ANYTHING. If a customer wants an iPod or something that is locked up, I have to find a manager for a key... which takes about 10min. Finnaly I get a key... the customer is upset already... then I go to scan it... oh wow, it is 30$ more than what the price tag said... I have to explain to the customer that the price tag is out of date... they get even more angry and I have to get my manager... after ANOTHER 10min of looking for him/her he comes to tell the customer that we are sorry and there is nothing we can do. So the angry customer leaves. I feel bad for those customers..

Another thing I would like to mention... sometimes I ring things up, it comes up 20$ or so cheaper than what it did cost. Example: I ring up a laptop that cost 599$, but the computer says that it cost 449$... usually I tell the customer, 'Wow, it is your lucky day, that computer has dropped down to 449$.'... but my manager would be around watching and he would jump in the sale and tell the customer that he can add on a 3 year 'Protection Plan' for 'free'. Which of course the customer says, 'Wow! Thank you.' because they don't know that it is actually on sale or on clearance!! It is just another way Circuit City sucks money out of people.

Just this past Sunday we had an all-store meeting about the holidays that are coming up. We learned again, like last year, how to upsell people. We learn to mention christmas gift for a loved one... We are trained to make a laptop or TV or w/e sound like the BEST and only gift that a child or husband or grandson etc would want.

I understand that warranties are a good thing to have... but you just are wasting your money when you get a warranty on a PC. The warranty cost about half of the computer's price... that is a waste. I'm a computer Tech, I would know.

All I ever wanted to do was just fix computers and help customers with their specific needs. It was my dream growing up to be a great PC Tech..which I am, but I never wanted to pay the price of honesty.

Fraud and scam
We purchased a gps and was told if we had any trouble with it to return it to any curcuit city and they would exchange it, the salesman said sometimes the speakers went bad, we expected to get it exchanged only to be told that was not the case. the speakers stopped working at 2 weeks! We were also told the extended warranty we purchased was good for 4years. that was a lie to. they told us once you use your extended warranty it was no longer good! I feel we were taken advantage of and circuit city should done as they had promised and replaced our gps with another one. We will not shop circuit city in the future!
