Advantage Warranty is a how they take Advantage of Customers
I recently returned a pioneer AVIC D1 in-dash navigation unit to store #0830 in Winston-Salem, NC. The warranty department informed me that the unit was un repairable and I was eligible for an exchange comparable to my unit. When I drove to the store (which is approx. 40 miles from my home) the manager (Phil) informed me that they would not exchange my unit for a comparable unit because they had none like it (although they sell a Pioneer AVIC-F900BT & F900BT that is similar). It seems that they are unwilling to offer an exchange because I purchased the unit as open-box ($229.99)and added the extended warranty ($60.00) and the retail value of the unit is 1599.99. The warranty alone was 25% of the unit price and was bought to not have to worry about anything going wrong with the unit. In the warranty papers it stated that if the unit could not be replaced a comparable unit would be provided. The manager informed me that he would refund the 229.99 via gift card which will not provide me with a comparable unit with comparable features ( This will only buy a radio with a cd player when I had one with a cd player, DVD player, navigation, and touchscreen display). I don't feel that because they discounted the unit so much I should have to suffer. Plus, I purchased a warranty and it is being treated as a insurance plan. I have had custom work performed on my vehicle so that it would accommodate the unit and will have to pay to have it returned to normal. I have been tossed back and forth from 800 number to 800 number and can still not resolve the issue. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will keep everyone infomred of how this plays out. I use to prefer Circuit City over its competitors, but now I am left to question there business ethics. What ever happened to customer satisfaction???

My brother in law purchased a computer from circuit city in Joliet, IL, and they didn't give him a cable monitor and the printer doesn't work and they have been rude and the number I call in Virginia to file a complaint has also been rude, he just wants his money back.
What else can I do for him. Circuit city is a horrible company.
They sell you defective equipment and don't give you equipment and are nasty to you. Who else can I turn to!!! HELP

laptop purchase
THIS IS WHAT I EMAILED TO CIRCUIT CITY: The sales associate told me that Circuit City handles the issuance of the rebates and it takes about 2 weeks. Your form however (2 of them) states Circuit City 8 weeks and HP (not circuit city)10 weeks. Totally contradictory to your associates' pitch. I was also told that IF I purchased warranty I could receive item next day otherwise it would be 14 days and I would have to pay for the item at that time. I was also hit with an initial application install or as he called it, "optimization". I have TWO REBATE forms, $50 Circuit City and $30 HP. My problem: Both forms require the ORIGINAL UPC barcode. There is only ONE on the box. How do I submit?
Comments: Since I paid with cash, I asked about a cash discount and he said he 'would see what he could do'. Since it was not included with the sale, I asked if he could throw in a laptop bag. I did not get one. I feel like your associates took advantage with the warranty vs the quickness of receiving my purchase. I am also feeling put out that I could not 'load' my own software. I have been working with computers since 1973 and I believe im capable. I also beleive this computer was a store return and I should'nt have to pay YOU to make it saleable.
Store: 3364
Product: Laptop Computer
Manufacturer: Compaq
THIS WAS THEIR EMAIL REPLY:
Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We apologize, but we are unable to locate your rebate submission in our system. Please allow up to 4 weeks from your original mailing date for processing and an additional 2-4 weeks to receive your rebate check.
Also, if your initial submission was not sent to our processing centers in Texas or Florida, please refer to your rebate form for the number to call regarding your rebate submission
Was my question answered? Do they even care? Who do I address this to? Thanks for any help or info to lead me in the proper direction.

Advantage Protection Plan Plus
Early last year, I purchased a Samsung NV3 digital camera from a Circuit City store in Columbus, Ohio off of Polaris Parkway. I was informed by the associate of the details regarding the Advantage Plan PLUS for 4 years. He described being fully covered for unlimited repairs for the entire length of the 4 year Advantage Plan. Also, if I had any trouble, just come to any Circuit City store and they will help me.
As I soon found out, about 1 year later when my camera broke and right before a wedding, the story changes. You can only get your camera fixed by calling a 1-800 number and by sending your equipment in via mail. The manager at the Baltimore, MD location also said I should have a back up camera in case I would ever need one. I could not believe they were trying to sell me a digital camera in case mine broke, when I purchased a Plan to protect me in case mine broke. Completely the wrong answer I was looking for at the time. This was the first indication I made a mistake by purchasing the Advantage Plan Plus.
Secondly, after sending my camera via mail to have it fixed, I was never notified about any progress (which was promised when I called and set up my claim), and also much much longer than the time frame given to me.
Thirdly, Circuit City deemed the camera to be replaced, and a gift card was (supposedly) sent to me (still waiting). I was quite happy at this point something actually good came out of buying the Advantage Plan, however, when I called to check on the status of my claim, I knew enough to ask how the remainder of my 4 year Advantage Plan Plus was going to work. They stated the Plan stops anytime your equipment is not able to be fixed. I agreed to pay $104.99 to be covered for 4 years, but now I am only covered for 1 year.
Instead of Circuit City paying to have it fixed, its more beneficial for them to just replace less expensive equipment so that the warranty stops and the consumer will have to purchase another Advantage Plan.
I am the fool who purchased a 4 year Advantage Plan Plus for $104.99 on a $199.99 digital camera. That wouldn't have been a bad deal if I was actually covered for up to 4 years. However, Circuit City is quick to just replace the equipment so that the consumer is now stuck with yet another decision of 'Should I purchase another 4 year plan'? My now-educated answer: NO!
I want my 4 yr Advantage Plan Plus pro-rated for the 3 years I am not covered. Or at least, refund me the difference between the 2 year plan and the 4 year plan. I would have had the same horrible service either way.

Don't trust them
I brought a Motorola Modern from Circuit City through online, and there were rebate forms available to download. But after I downloaded the rebate forms and sent in the required documents including the confirmation email, which is the email letter of the receipt, they sent me a letter saying that the purchase location was invalid and my rebates can not be sent. I did not save a copy of the rebate form, so I went to check the link for the rebate form, and it is no longer working.
I brought this product is just because it has the rebate, without the rebate, it cost twice much compared to the other stores. So, the rebate form that is available for circuit city online purchase is unreliable and everyone should be awared.

Extended computer warranties
This is the SECOND time I've been screwed over by an extended warranty for a computer from Circuit City. The 1st time was for a desktop. They gave me the run around, it's your ISP, it's your software. Well, it wasn't, it was the hard drive & by the time I knew it, because it gave out completely, the warranty had expired. Now, with the laptop, I found out the guy who sold it to me lied. I didn't want the extended contract, but he said I would get 1 free battery replacement as part of a check up where they would 'tune up' the laptop, which would make it worth it. Turns out, it's only for a defective battery, & the 2 phone calls I've made have told me something different than what my local store told me today. Each person making it harder for me to get coverage. Also, the local store told me all the extended warranty's really good for is a free virus scan, no cleaning up the computer files, etc. like was stated when I bought the computer. What a rip! Don't believe anything they tell you or what they even have in the contract. They will do all they can to give you the run around & weasle out of doing anything for you.

Bad service
On June 25, 2008, I turned my Toshiba U305 laptop to firedog at Circuit City #3100 in Richmond, VA. My laptop had fallen from the 6th floor of a hotel and had pretty much shattered. Firedog took my laptop in and it was sent to the depot to be evaluated.
Three weeks later on July 16, 2008, the warranty center called to notify me that they would be giving me a replacement laptop in the form of a gift card. I had explained to the gentleman on the line that I am a college student and that laptop was my only laptop I had to do my schoolwork and needed a new one as soon as possible. After he had consulted with upper management, he told me that a check would be sent instead of a gift card. I agreed to this offer. I chose a laptop after browsing online and placed the order with the gentleman and he told me that it would be available for pickup at Circuit City #3100. He had also told me that the check should arrive at my house in 10-15 days.
On August 22, 2008, I still had not received the check and so I called 1-800-555-4615 as the assistant through Circuit City had suggested. I asked to be transferred to a manger and she told me that she was sorry that it hadn't arrived but there was nothing she could do until 30 days had passed from the date the check was issued. Turns out, the check was issued on July 28, 2008, 12 days AFTER I had received the phone call from the warranty center. It was issued so late! TWELVE DAYS when the man said it would be in my hands in 10-15 days.
I call back on August 27, 2008 (30 days after the check was issued) to have it canceled so that a new one could be reissued. I asked if the check could be sent to me in some trackable manner (overnight, 2-day mail, priority mail with delivery confirmation, etc.). A very nice manager named Gary told me he couldn't have it sent in any of those forms, but would try to have the cancellation expedited so that I might be able to receive the check faster. He called me back the next day and told me that it wasn't canceled yet but it should be in the process and should take a couple days.
On Sept 3, 2008, I called back to ask for the status of the check and it seems that a new one HAS NOT been issued yet. I have been very patient with this whole issue but now it has come to the point where my credit card bill is due and I DO NOT have $1000 to pay it. I am a college student and money like that is hard to come by. As a result, I have had to pay $100+ in interest to my credit card because I don't have the money Circuit City is supposed to send me. NOTHING is being done to help my situation and I am VERY unhappy with the service that has been given to me. There has been no attempt to help me pay my bills and nothing has been offered for the mistake that Circuit City has made.
At this point, I am beyond exhausted from the roundabout ways Circuit City's customer service has made me go. I just want my check and I want nothing else to do with Circuit City. This situation has made me rethink whether or not I want to shop there anymore.

Bad service
On 8/1/08, I purchased an ACER Extensa 5420 laptop on sale. I was forced to purchase "firedog" service with the laptop. The manager, Brian Fox of store 815 in Knoxville TN, said it was standard practice to install this prior to selling the system. I told him that I did not ask for the service and did not want to purchase firedog service. He said I could just walk away if I did not want to purchase the system. The sales advertising did not mention the firedog service as part of the system. I purchased the system anyway, and wrote and asked for a refund the $39.99 charge and $3.70 tax. It has been two weeks and I have heard nothing.
