Scam and cheating
On May 25, 2008, I purchased a laptop, Quick Start, and a laptop case from Circuit City. As they were waiting for someone to do the Quick Start, I changed my mind. I got a 'refund'. Of course, I had written a check, so I knew they would have to wait until my check cleared the bank before they could do a refund.
My check cleared my bank on May 29, 2008.
On June 2, 2008, I called their customer service line (800-THE-CITY), and talked with 2 VERY rude representatives. They told me I had to wait 7 to 14 BUSINESS days after my check cleared before they would send me a refund. (And they only start the process if you call and set up a claim, even though the refund receipt says they will mail a check to you.)
I went to the store, the manager called their corporate offices and left a message for someone. The next day I called another manager at that store. He called and found out that they have my check set to mail on June 10, 2008. He also gave me a phone number to call (800-THE-CITY) to speak with someone who handles disputes. Well, guess what! It is the same rude customer service representative that I spoke with yesterday!!!
I asked if they could expedite my check. No, they don't do that. They simply hold onto the money so they can earn more interest, I guess. Anyway, I asked for an email address for someone in the department that handles refunds. She told me to go to www.circuitcity.com. I did. There is no email for a complaint department or a refund department.
Anyway, I picked an email and informed them that I would Tell everyone I know how they have treated me, and ask that everyone tell everyone they know.
This is no way to treat a customer. They do not deserve any of your business.

Scam and cheating
We bought a digital camera on 06/06/04 and purchased an extended warranty. We have sent it in for service four times since purchase for smoking flash and additional problems including lens malfunction. Refused to replace under 'lemon' policy because the repairs were not within one year's time frame, although the problem has never been repaired. Warranty expires 6/4/08, and was sent in on 05/28/08 for smoking flash again, and memory stick malfunction. Previous episode with lens malfunction, camera was returned to us with damage around lens, we called and were told not to worry about it, may have happened during repair. With this incident, they now say they will not repair due to evidence of physical damage. We had similar warranty fulfillment problems with a laptop computer and printer. I have found numerous incidents online of problems with their warranty fulfillment practices and a referral to this website.

I’m disappointed
I bought a Toshiba in June 2005 and immediately afterwards I bought the four year warranty. I usually don't waste my money on these things but something told me to invest in the plan.
Good thing I did.
On March 1st 2008 the computer simply died. I took it to a local Circuit City and they said that the hard drive had crashed. I took it to the IT department here at work (I work for a major New York based television company) and they agreed with the diagnosis.
To be fair, the City Advantage folks got me a box three days after I called in the report on that Saturday. By Tuesday night it was on it's way back to it's repair centre in Texas.
I got it back in about a week with a new hard drive. No explanation of why. No data retrieved. Just the computer back minus all the programs that I then spent the better part of a week returning to the computer. (Thank God I saved the discs).
All was fine until May 17th, 2008 when the computer crashed. Again. Yes the hard drive failed again. I took it to the same Circuit City and showed it to the same IT department and all concluded that the hard drive that Circuit City put in there was defective.
So this time it took the City Advantage plan TWO WEEKS to get me a box and now on June 4th it's going back to Texas.
Back in 1992 I bought a desktop computer that was pretty low grade but it lasted me the better part of ten years. It's INSANE that these days’ laptops don't make it even three years and it's WORSE that they will now have replaced the entire hard drive TWICE in just three months.
Maybe it's time I switched to a Mac.

Slow service
I Have laptop that needs to be repaired, it's still covered by warranty, so I went back to circuit city (where I bought it) for them to send it back to HP, it was march 22, 2008 and their promised date was march 29, 2008. I went back some time in April and they told me that there is problem with the shipping... I always go back to store to follow it up and they keep on telling me the same thing... then last may 5th, I came there and they told me that they are going to replace the laptop as soon as the HP will send it back to them. But I asked them how long would it take again because I have been waiting for almost 2 months now, and they can't answer me. So I decided to call the HP directly, I talked to 2 agents, the first agent was rude to me, she was asking the order # that starts with letter P, she really confused me because my order # starts with letter S, then she told me that she can't find my name in their database so I have to call them back once I found the order #, and I asked her to help me find what she was looking for, she was raising her voice and I tried to get her name, I just understood that her name was Ritz, and she transferred me to another agent without saying anything, the second agent was ok, he was able to probe well so he was able to find my information and the status, he said that the circuit city should have received the unit may 5th 2008, so it should be ready to be replaced by now, then again, I went back to the store, that was may 12th (today), they said there's no replacement number and it's being escalated... I called the HP again I was at the parking lot of the store, the line was cut but I believe they hung up on me, because if the line was cut accidentally they should called me back, they have my phone number both land line and cell phone, they know that they could reach me through those numbers anytime, but they never called me back... I just don't know who should take the responsibility, is it circuit city or HP. I am really tired of waiting.

Advantage protection plan is worthless!
I've bought a Advantage Protection Plan for my LCD TV at Circuit City in 206. The web site shows a policy of "service is typically completed within 14 business days". When the TV has a problem, one tech comes out two times but could not fix or improve the situation. By the time the 2nd tech comes out, it has been 35 days from the date that I have reported. The 2nd tech has no idea what parts the first tech have ordered and don't know what to do with it. I have escalated this case to a supervisor named Raz Abdul. Raz says that he will issue me a replacement and stop calling me since. I have left several messages until another supervisor named Veronica call to tell me to wait for the next appointment which 45 days from the time the problem first reported.
They could not explain to me why the case has taken so long. I don't think anyone there care how long it takes. They give me nothing but run-around. I then escalated to the supervisor's manager and the store manager. They told me to wait for another 24 to 48 hours while they investigate. If they have good documentation, it should take less than one hour to know what really has happened.
To sum up, after 45 days of waiting and meeting three times with the tech, no work is done. I want to give them a zero rating for wasting my time and cause me anger. Stay away from Circuit City and DO NOT BUY the ADVANTAGE PROTECTION PLAN. It will cause you grief!!!
They are shameless and liars.

Advanced coverage!
I purchased the advantage protection plan through circuit city when I purchased my large LCD TV. I talked to a circuit city representative when setting up this 3 year plan for $289.99. The sales assoc. name is J. Dansby. He told me that the amount would be taken out and charged to my circuit city card in three payments. Never was I told that the amount was going to be charged to Chase Bank account number 1820 0000 0387 2757. The way Chase had the payments set up did not match Circuit City's payments. I phoned Chase Bank and got into it with them. I don't even have an account with them. I received a letter that they were going to turn me in for not paying. I did not know who I was paying, Chase or Circuit City. I ended up paying Chase $100.00 to keep my credit in excellent standing. Between the two company's I still am not sure what I am paying for. I feel like I am giving money just to keep my credit good.

Truth in advertising fraud!
I purchased an HP Media desktop PC on the order of $1300 from Circuit City during their day after Thanksgiving 2007 sale. One of the deciding factors for my purchase was their offer to include a free wireless G router for any desktop purchase made during the holiday sale. This past weekend I discovered that Circuit City never provided the wireless G router as advertised to complete my desktop purchase. I believe that the oversight was an honest mistake by the sales person and do not fault the company in that regard. Yesterday I brought a copy of the sales ad and my receipt to the West Colfax Lakewood, CO store where I originally purchased the desktop system and asked to speak with the manager. I expected to hear an apology for their sales person's mistake and an offer to make the situation right as any reputable firm would without hesitation be obliged to extend. Instead I was basically told in a rude, condescending, and unprofessional manner by the manager that obtaining the wireless router "wasn't going to happen" and that it was all my fault for not pointing out to them at the time that they had cheated me out of the item during my computer system purchase. I asked to speak to a higher manager and was told that I had reached the top of the line and had no where else to go with the exception of listening to a recording at their 1-800 number. The manager, who in my opinion clearly displayed a Napoleonic complex, then rudely shooed me out of the store. I had previously considered purchasing a 52" large screen LCD HDTV from this store, but that purchase and any future electronics related purchases on my part will now go to another firm. I am also in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against this store. From my experience with this firm they clearly do not follow the edicts of "Truth in Advertising" and condone the fleecing of trusting customers without any sort of remorse.

I will never purchase anything from them again
We purchased a 46" LCD Samsung 9/20/06. We paid over $5, 555.24, including surround sound and the $522.49 protection plan for the TV.
The first warranty call was placed the week of 3/24, a repair guy was out there on Saturday 3/29. I though WOW this service is great. The repair guy stated we needed a new motherboard. The guy put it on order and was back out on 4/9 to install that part. The TV still did not work. The repair guy said the manufacture said to order some plug. Although, the repair guy did not think it was the plug, he stated that a prior service call was having the same trouble, but a smaller TV. He ordered the part on 4/10. On 4/22 I decide to check on the status we were going on a month almost with no TV. I called the repair department to find out the part was on back order until 5/5. Nobody bothered to tell me that it would be almost a month to receive the part? As you can see the frustration-started building, I called and spoke to the store manager at the store that I bought the TV. Thinking that if you spend over $5000 at a store, they would be willing to aid the repair process. The store manager assured me that he was checking into the problem and would call me back that afternoon. Well I met the store manager on 4/28 when I went to the store upset. The manager never called me back. Of course he was shocked to see me in the store. I understand customer service, as I work in customer service, and this is the WORST customer service I have ever seen. So the manager is now going to work with Corporate to see if he can help. He calls me the next day to state that he does not have an answer yet, but he is off Friday through the weekend and will call me on Monday. I call on Monday to check status to find out this part has been found and now they are coming to my house to install it. Don’t think so. We are still without a TV and the date is 5/5.

Unauthorized Credit Card Use
This Circuit City is terrible. It is run by young college students that will tell you anything to make a sale whether it's true or not.
We were told we could get $300 off of a TV if we sign up for Basic Directv. We were ok with that and signed up. The young sales person needed our Visa in case we defaulted on our contract within one year with Directv. He also told us the installation and equimpment was FREE, and our card would NOT be charged. We had our Directv installed. We received a huge Visa bill for installation and channels we would never watch and did NOT sign up for. We called Circuit City, they denied telling us about the getting stuff for free. The "manager" was very rude, and just kept repeating the same thing over and over. We disputed the charge on our Visa, but Visa said we would have to return our Directv equipment. Directv said NO you can't, we will charge you for the entire year anyway, because YOU signed up for our service including all those premium channels, which we did not sign up for!
CIRCUIT CITY SIGNED US UP FOR SERVICES WE DIDN'T WANT WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION, BASICALLY USING OUR CARD WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. NOBODY AT THIS STORE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBLITY! DON'T SHOP HERE.
