Circuit City Reviews

Worst company ever
BensBargains.com had a notice for a pair of Sennheiser PX 70 headphones at Circuit City. I ordered a pair through their web portal. Circuit City states: "We guarantee your order of $25 or more will be ready for pickup at your selected store within 24 minutes of the timestamp below. If it's not, we'll give you a $24 Circuit City gift card." Granted, mine came out to $22 but there was inventory stated on their website. When I went there the next morning (you have 14 days to pick it up), there was no inventory and on top of that, I had to wait at least 24 minutes before someone told me it wasn't in stock. I got my money back but what a waste of time. No wonder these guys are going under. I will never shop there again. This was the third time I'be been wasted by Circuit City.

Online fraud
Went in to exchange a gps for one at I had originally wanted that best buy had on sale. was told that they could only match the stores price which was 140 dollars more than the online price. so much for their Price match promise that they make seem so convenient. all I wanted was for them to match the price. I know if I had gone to best buy they would have matched the online price. I still don't understand the difference between an online price and a store price. shouldn't the price match also match competitors websites as well?

return nightmare
I returned my sons camera that he recived as a gift, We made the girl aware it was a gift she credited back to the credit card it was bought with, we were told that their was nothing they could do, that i had to fix their mistake by calling the person who bought the gift and having them buy me a gift card as soon as the money they credidted showed up in her account. When I spoke to the store manager he lied to me and told me that he didnt have a Regional or District manager and thet he handled everyting in store. I am applaed that I have had to go through everthing I have and have recived no offers to a resoultion besides bugging the person who bought the gift. We were going to get a camcorder with the return money, The store manager didnt offer us a discount to cover the amount lost on the return which I would have been happy with! I would have been happy with almost any resoultion he offered that didnt require me to get the money back from the gift giver. I thought that they would want to fix a mistake that their employee made to keep a customer. I have battled with their customer service reps and their managers, and have not recived even a call back from the Distrit manager! I will never buy anything from them ever again, they do not value their customers!

Shipping
I was searching the internet for some hard to find cds my brother wanted for Christmas. I found four of them on Circuit City's website on 12/18/08. I was ready to pay for two day shipping to receive it by Christmas, but plastered all over the website on every page and on the checkout page, was a "guarantee" that you could select free standard shipping and it WOULD arrive before Christmas. I thought this sounded great and placed my order. It told me the date my package's estimated arrival time was 12/19-12/24 and I would receive a confirmation email when it shipped. I didn't receive the confirmation email until 12/21, but I assumed they would have sent it the correct way to get to my house by 12/24, as their website "guaranteed". The UPS delivery man came by my house with another package with my mom's present... by no Circuit City package. I asked him if it was possible I had another package that would arrive later. He said possibly, but doubtful. I call Circuit City's customer service number. After about 10 minutes the girl finally manages to tell me that my order had the 12/24 "guarantee". I tell her, yes, I know this, but the UPS guy already came and the order had not arrived. She then informs me that UPS delivers up until 10pm at night and I needed to at least wait until then. I don't know about you, but I've never had UPS knock on my door at 10pm, but I thought hey, its Christmas maybe they work late. Needless to say, my order never arrived. My brother had no presents from me on Christmas. And I am beyond pissed off that Circuit City would "guarantee" something so important around Christmas time, and not live up to that promise.

Fraud and cheating
This is an example of a so called extended warranty.

Ordering a hard drive and mother board which came from Gateway. Wait one week including business days. Calling the company for the status of my report and being told that they lost my ordered merchandise. A new order being placed and then being told, ' we do not know when you will be contacted but when your parts arrived we will let you know'.

What the hell would happen if I needed to have a computer to run a home based business. My customers are still waiting and waiting and I am loosing money because of Circuit Citys refusal to compensate me for my 'extended waiting time one the warranty'.

I wonder what I paid for. I saw a segment on my local news about these so called extended warranties. People that were interviewed got the same run around that so many others of us have experienced with circuit city. Why are they going out of business? Are managers taking the extended warranty from customers and using the extra money to go on trips?

I certainly hope a circuit city sales manager or regional manager reads this because it is the only way to get the consumer's opinion across to them. Going to the store does not mean ****. Talking on the phone doesn't either. It is apparent that the purpose of the so called extended warranty is to get extra commission in the sales dept. so managers can go on extended trips in private jets.

Rip off
I purchased a computer form the Brookfield, WI. Circuit City and the sales person opened the box while it was still behind the checkout counter. The sales person the retyped the box and gave it to me. I took it home and didn't get it out of my vehicle and my daughter said that it was the wrong model.

I went back to Circuit City and told them that it was the wrong model number and I wanted the right model. They told me that they didn't carry that model, and I told them I would just return it and go to another place and buy it. The price was only a few dollars more for the right one and was only a few miles away.

They told me that they had to deduct 15% because the box was opened and I told them I didn't open it, that the salesperson opened it and resealed it. Rather then argue with them I took the computer and told them that I would never enter any Circuit City again. Is this the policy that prevents returns or did the salesperson not want to lose a sale?

charged for items never received
Circuit City is charging me for equipment never received in the tune of $8000. I tried repeaditly to call, fax, and go in person to have this matter clear up with the store manager John Armgstrong and he does not respond and refuses to help.
I would recomend not purchasing equipment with 1 year deferred payment with no interest, because Circuit City will not honor returns and will charge you for equipment never received or services not render.

Bad service
On 11/30/08 I purchased a Gateway laptop on line at the circuit city website. I was told at the website that it was in stock. I was told it would be delivered on 12/3/08.On 12/2/08 @ 5:00am PST I got on the website to track my order. To my surprise the order was cancelled! I immediately called the customer service number to find out what was going on. The rep told me the order was cancelled due to the fact that they were out of stock. I told her the website clearly stated that the item was in stock and would be delivered on 12/3/08. She told me there was nothing she could do. I pressed the issue and insisted to speak to a supervisor. The rep told me there wasn't one available but she would give me a claim number and I could call back and speak to someone later. On 12/2/08 @11:08am PST I called back and got another rep. I explained the problem to her and she told me there was a mistake and the order was not cancelled and would be delivered on 12/3/08 as promised.I said great and thanks and went on my merry way. On a hunch I got back on the website to track my order. To my surprise it was showing up as cancelled again. I figured it probably had not updated yet.I decided to call the customer service line again and track it that way. To my surprise it was saying that the order was cancelled. I called the customer service line again to speak to someone about my order. The rep informed me that indeed the order is cancelled. Well by now I'm not too happy. I ask to speak to a supervisor. They get me on the phone with a supervisor and I explain EVERYTHING AGAIN. He told me there is nothing he can do. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he told me there is noone else. He is as high as I can go.I again explain the issues I have with the website and false advertisement and misleading information. His attitude was indifferent and he could pretty much care less.He pretty much told me we made a mistake, the website wasn't updated properly, we are out of that item, there's nothing we can do, goodbye.

Not honoring price protection guarantee
I purchased a tv and home theater system from circuit city on 11/5/08. I was told about the price protection guarantee they offer for 30 days, if you find it cheaper they will match the price difference 110%.

Today (11/28/08) I saw the same TV cheaper at Circuit City and the same home theater system cheaper at my local BestBuy.

I called the store ahead of time to find out what I needed to do to get the price match and was told I had to come in the store. So I did and they refused to match the lower prices!

This is false advertising at it's best!

Well the same tv is again on sale today for the same price and it's not "black friday".Again they will not honor their advertised price guarantee.

Bad Business Practices
On 11/30/08 on-line I purchased a Gateway lap from Circuit City, or from what I am now calling CROOKED CITY. I was specifically told on-line the product was in stock. I was also guaranteed that I would receive my order on 12/3/08. On 12/2/08 @ 5:00 am PST I got on-line to check the status of my order. To my surprise my order had been cancelled. I immediately called the customer service number to find out what was going on. They informed me that it was cancelled due to the fact that the item was not in stock. I explained to the rep that I was led to believe the item was in stock and was guaranteed it would be here on 12/3/08. She told me there's nothing I can do. I press the issue and ask to speak to her supervisor. She told me there wasn't one available but she could give me a claim number and I could call back later and speak to some one of at a higher level. I say ok and hang up. On 12/2/08 @ 11:08 am PST I call the customer service line again. I explain AGAIN what happened. This rep told me your order is not cancelled and will be there on 12/3/08 as promised. I say great, thank you and hang up. On a hunch I decide to check my order status on-line. I look it up and it still says cancelled. I figured it wasn't updated yet so I decide to call the customer service line again. I check my order that way. It still says cancelled. I finally get to talk to another rep. I explain everything AGAIN. She told me sorry your order is cancelled there's nothing I can do. I ask for a supervisor. I talk to him for about a half an hour. The end result is he said there was a mistake, I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do bye. What has happened to customer service? They honestly believe one person doesn't matter! I work for a major utility in San Diego, Ca. I am a member of local IBEW 465. I have access to a lot of people and I will make sure they all hear this story and I will ask them to please not shop at CROOKED CITY!
