For me to give the full story of the problems I have had with Citi Corp would take me hours so I will simply state the following points:
We signed up for a project with Home Depot to have Windows installed (that was a mistake in itself!) they offered a 12month no payment promotion and they didn't even tell us who the credit card was with (we thought it was home depot themselves).
Home Depot charged the card in error 2 times which set off the promotion start date of March 2009 which was wrong. Hope Depot credited the account and recharged accurately in June 2009. When March arrived we started getting calls from Citi Corp 8-10 times a day saying that our promotion had expired and that we needed to make payment on our account. I called Home Depot and was told that it was an error and that we didn't owe anything until June 2010 and to ignore it and that they would contact them and take care of it (which they didnt).
At the same time as we were getting the calls my husband was in the UK because his father was ill. They wouldn't discuss it with me and were rude and not helpful. I tried to explain to them that it was a mistake and if they looked in their records they would see the amounts they are showing as overdue were mistakes made by Home Depot and that they had credit the account and I am not due to pay anything until June 2010. I asked if we could call my contact at Home Depot so they could expain the problem and they refused to have a 3 way conversation. They couldn't look at records past 6 months so they could not see the charges and the credits in order to realize the mistake. They would not let me escolate the problem to a supervisor they only thing I could do was to fax in an escolation request and then a supervisor would contact me. I faxed in the request, I did not get a call from the supervior. Home Depot kept telling me not to worry about it and that they were communicating to Citi Corp and to ignore the calls.
This went on for 3 months. Finally, 70+ conversations with Citi Corp and Home Depot later, hours of time spent on the phone, and more frustation than I can explain they seemed to have figured it out. I made the payments that were now acurately due in June 2010 and they credited me the finance charges and late payment fees of over $800 which they first tried to make me pay.
Finally I thought we were done! About 3 weeks ago I started getting calls again, due to overdue payments for a promotion that expired in March, a totally new amount that I have never heard of before and they can't explain. They keep telling me that they can seee the notes and that I shouldn't be showing that I owe anything and that they are escolating it and it will be fixed within 4-5 days and that I shouldn't be receiving anymore calls. Today I just took the fith call and had the same conversation and was told the same thing. Lots of apologies, they don't know why my account is still showing payment due and they will fix it!
I am at the end of my tether with this company. The representatives are rude, they don't care about understanding the problem all they see is that you owe money and they want payment. They will not put you through to a supervisor and they cannot fix the problem.
I will never use either Home Depot or Citi Corp again and I hope that this situation will be resolved in my life time, of which I do not hold out hope. Not to mention the hours spent dealing with this problem, the long distance phone calls chasing them, the minutes used up on my cell phone, the aggrovation my husband was dealing with while in another country with a sick father who finally passed away. We had threatening letters to destroy our good credit rating, 7-12 phone calls per day from 7:00am to 9:00pm 7 days a week.
Hopefully someone will read this note and know to avoid working with either Home Depot or Citi Corp!!!
