CitiBank Reviews

stealing my funds
just wanted to let everyone out there in Kansas that are currently drawing unemployment. As of november Kansas unemployment call center started using citibank debit cards to pay people from week to week for there claims. Citibank is taking transactions and putting duplicate ones in the system so you are over drafted and have to pay late fees. this has happened to me the last 3 weeks. I told my attorney and am currently going over my resources to get a lawsuit started for the money they tried to take from me. Sorry citibank unemployment wasnt designed to give to you crooks!!! Anyway the only way to get around this corrupt company is when you get your funds in the debit card, , withdrawel them immediately or else they will steal your money from you. It just so happens citibank is one of the most top banks that are ready to go under so they steal from people on unemployment. Just giving kansans a heads up.It does no good calling citibank just get an attorney and take legal actions in your own hands!!!

mistreatment and discrimination by Citibank supervisor
Well my story had begun with me intending to move to Australia to study.I live currently in London but am originally from Eastern Europe which- as later I'll explain- is the root of my whole problem here. For my move I needed all my savings to be converted to australian dollars. This is when it all started. For me to get a better rate I had converted all the money via an Internet based currency exchange firm. They were happy to do business with me, and naturally they've sent the currency back to my in cash, because this is how they operate. This is quite a large amount now, since this was ALL my savings .I have worked hard and had a pretty good paying job.Well, what happened is that I have opened a Citibank account for the purpose of holding the converted australian dollars that I had now in cash. The Citibank supervisor at the cashiers had refused to take the money. Her reasoning was that I haven't had all the bills form the Internet exchange firm.I had these receipts at home and I told her I would bring them in the next day.She called me the next day and told me not to bother with it because they are just refusing to let me use the account altogether. There are other aspects here I am sure for their discrimination.First of all my nationality. She said to me during this phonecall that she had looked at my application papers and seen what I did for a living; and how much I made. She predicated her opinion of me based on stereotypes. I had worked in a restaurant- as everybody thinks all the eastern europeans do- and nothing else- I suppose.I had saved more money in this job than other people which was a result of long years's hard work and leading an austere lifestyle. The best part of the story is that now I have run out of time.I am moving in 10 days and cannot get the money transferred beforehand. So if I'll get mugged on the way I will have Citibank to blame. For that I am going to go all the way with my complaint until I will get a solution or at least acknowledgement form Citibank. Not to mention compensation.

Fraudulent practices
Through an credit alert I found an account had been opened in my name with Citibank, and with Spectrum CBSD; neither of which I had requested. When I called Citibank, they said they had no account in my name despite I had an account number to give them. I felt especially warm & fuzzy when they asked for my SSN.

I have never heard of Spectrum before this. Apparently they don't work on Saturdays. I don't know where to go from here, other than writing a letter to these agencies, as well as to all the credit-reporting agencies.

Fraud Hiding
Three years before, Citibank Dubai Global Consumer Bank Head, Rajeev Kakar, while hiding an Internet fraud, that took my entire $ account tranferred ($165, 000 approx) to some Lithuanian account, without any verification from me, while retruning back the money, put a caluse that I shall not go to press (GulfNews or Khaleej Times) to report the problem. That's Citibank Dubai!

One year before, there was an AED2.2 million fraud, one of the teller was taking away cash illegally, and she was doing it for 5 years, no one especially the Fraud Unit or Internal Control Unit had failed to identify it. Poor Assistant Branch Manager is still undergoing probe, as his passport is still under banks'custody (treatement like slaves) whereas Fraud Unit Head got promotion. hahaha

Citibank again
im back again. should have cancelled with citibank when i threatened to do so.
so here we go again. my salary was deposited by cheque last week wednesday into citibanks account. today is wed the 10th and it still hasnt reflected. my debit order have been rejected and im a bit tight for cash but what can i do - Citibank are on leave!!!
how can this even be allowed? im being completely prejudiced here and its not even my fault

secondly was trying to After having not cried in two years this morning i burst into tears as i have had the last straw with citibank. never in my life have i experienced such incompetence or felt more pejudiced.
since the 10th november i initatied a request for a salary transfer loan with citibank for my rent cheque due 10th december. today is the 10 th december, i have no answer as yet, they have lost my applications twice, i have spoken to 17 agents and been to the bank 3 times. i got the necessary documentation 4 times and gave it to what i was told was the right divisions, everyone claims to not be able to assist as its some other divisons problem, yet you are not called back. i told them several times pls let me know if you cant do this as i will go to another bank - i earn a very reasonable salary..but alas today still no answer.

tommorrow i move to another bank and never ever again will i ever recommend or deal with citibank. they should not be allowed to play with peoples livelihoods or lives that way.
the ministry should step in an do something this is not acceptable.

lastly seems as though citibank has entered the microlendng environment. charing 24% interest on personal loans!!! absolutely shocking and in a recession!

Citibank lost its way and it is overcharging its customers
I've been a Citibank client in the US since 1995, and overseas since the early 80's. I have always concentrated all my business on Citibank, including checking accounts, credit cards, investments, etc.

Even when Citibank closed all the financial centers here in upstate NY and transfered my account to M&T Bank, I went online and opened the current account I have.

In the last 12 months I haven't used my Checking Plus (overdraft protection) account. Due to the current financial difficulties we are all facing, I had to resort to it for a few days. For my surprise, Citibank now is charging me a $10 fee every day I post a transaction to it, on top of the usual high interest rates.

I just called Citibank's phone support, and I was informed that this is a new procedure that started this month, and the only way to avoid it would be to call in advance and have them transfer the money from the Checking Plus account to my checking account, instead of using the automated process.

This is pure nonsense. In times when all the banks and clients are looking for improved efficiencies and gains of productivity, Citibank finds a cheap way of taking more money, and increasing the burden on its clients.

What is the point of this? Why this was not widely advertised? Why I did not see any communication on the several times I logged into Citibank's web site in the last few weeks?

As a loyal customer, I feel cheated and disrespected by the bank.

I would like this complaint to be escalated within the bank, to someone who is sensitive to the client's needs and the current financial environment.

If I don't hear a reply that addresses properly those issues and concerns, I will take my business elsewhere.

Internet Scam
I was told that I was a beneficiary of a Mrs. Margret Edward and was asked to send in c/o Western Union 920.00 dollars to a Jamie Alexa and a Mr. Robinson to release a fund in CitiBank for 3 million dollars but when I sent the 920.00 dollars they informed me that I had to send an additional 2, 900.00 dollars to send the fund. I was not informed before about the additional money I had to send and find it difficult to send it. I would like to know if this is a scam and have lost the 920.00 dollars I sent to Jamie Alexa. Thank you, David O'Malley

Beware of these movers
Earlier this year, I was approved for a student loan with the Citibank, and 2 disbursements were scheduled. However, I used only the first one, as I became ineligible for the second one. I subsequently paid off the first one in full, and the school I'd attended, cancelled the second one. Citibank, however, took a strange position of denying that the cancellation of the second disbursement has ever taken place, and holding me liable for paying it. The school provided me with the statement from HESC that shows the cancellation. My numerous phone calls to the customer service, letters, inquiries, even a complaint to BBB have gotten me precisely nowhere. Citibank still claims that I carry a balance on my student loan. I contacted a school official who placed a call to Citibank, and the Citibank employee claims to be unaware of the status of my loan (even though this name was on the letter from the Citibank).

This can negatively affect my credit history, let alone my eligibility for the prospective future student loans. I don't know what else I can do, except posting on this site.

Everybody, beware of Citibank practices.

Fraudulent practices
Earlier this year, I was approved for a student loan from Citibank. There were 2 disbursements scheduled, the first one in January and the second one in May 2008. I used the first one, but then I started attending less than part time, which made me ineligible for the second disbursement, and the school subsequently canceled it. However, Citibank denies the cancellation and holds me liable for the second disbursement. I have a statement from HESC (Higher Education Services) that shows the cancellation, yet Citibank continues standing its grounds. I paid off the first disbursement in full, but this is not good enough. Citibank holds me liable for the balance that was canceled. My numerous calls to the customer service, letters, even BBB complaint have gotten me precisely nowhere. Too bad I don't live in the state where Citibank is located; I would have filed a complaint in the court of law in no time. This can ruin my credit history, let alone my potential future student loans. At this point, I don't know what else I can do, but to post on this site.

Everybody, beware of Citibank's practices.

Payment fee & communication
Last year, my husband and I purchased furniture through Wickes furniture store and received credit through Citibank for the purchase. We received a Wickes store card and 12 months to pay off the furniture. Six months later, Wickes declared bankruptcy. Since that time we have received no communication from Citibank regarding the bankruptcy and how it would affect our line of credit.

I called Citibank to pay off the balance from the purchase and find out what we can do to transfer the line of credit to something usable. I was informed by the customer service person that the line of credit is useless but I still have to request to close it. She also told me that, although she can take my payment by phone, she can only take a check or debit card (no credit cards) and she has to charge me a $15 fee to take the payment by phone. $15 is a ridiculous amount of money to charge to make a payment when no other company, including my other credit card, charges any fee at all for phone and online payments. Citibank, she tells me doesn't even offer an online payment option.

Poor customer service, poor communication, ridiculous fees. I feel seriously cheated and will never do business with them again.
