CitiBank Reviews

Fraudulent transaction was going through my account
Citibank were informed 2 days before a fraudulent transaction was going through my account. How did I know it was fraudulent? I had internet accounts at a company called FASTHOSTS but their service was poor and the rules changed to suit their own book all day.Fasthosts refused to cancel my card details so I informed Citibank..What happened ? they allowed the transaction to go through. Further more I did tell Citibank to cancel all attempts from this company..Hey guess what happened next? 2 weeks later they allowed the same thing to happen again. All the email proof and telephone conversations are there on record yet the idiots that work for Citibank on a s--theap somewhere in India unfortunately have no brains and could not see what was happening here and certainly did not seems to understand the fraudulent situation. Upon speaking with a manager eventually at CHitibank he informed me thast this was very serious and would have an answer and refund within 2 days...guess what next? 2 weeks later and no phone call and no refund?

WHAT DOES THIS TELL ME AND YOU? AFTER BANKING WITH THESE PEOPLE FOR YEARS I FEEL THAT MY TIME IS COMING TO AND END AND I SHALL BANK WITH A PROFESSIONAL OUTFIT WHERE MY MONEY IS CONCERNED. CERTAINLY DO NOT EVER USE FASTHOST INTERNET COMPANY.

THIS CASE IS NOW IN THE HANDS OF THE BANKING OMBUDSMAN AND THE FULL STORY IS ABOUT TO GO INTO A NATIONAL NEWSPAPAER THANKS ONLY TO THE PURE 100% INEPTITUDE OF THE IDIOTS AT CHITIBANK(NO IT IS NOT A SPELLING MISTAKE).

THE ACTIONS OF CHITIBANK GO TO SHOW THAT CRIME DOES INDEED PAY AND THERE IS A BANK NEAR YOU THAT WILL HELPFULLY GREASE IT'S WHEELS - THAT IS CITIBANK TO YOU AND I.

Outrageous Checking Acct fees
When I opened a CD at Citi in 4/2009 I was told I'd have to open a checking account as well to get the advertised interest rate. That was not what I intended to do but I went along with it (big mistake). Everything was fine until November when I started getting charged $25 per month against my $500 checking account as a "service fee". No forewarning, the charges just started appearing. I haven't written a single check on this account. I would have taken care of this in November but I just returned home from abroad. What a ripoff. I think I'm paying for some Citi executive's billion dollar bonus!

Take your money and run
Outsourcing... Bad decision. Atleast not customer service. There is not a single place to get all the information you need. I wanted to close one of my account and cash out the balance

Thursday - I am told I cannot close the account becasue the balance is more that 2K. Later on Thursday I realized they still put a block on my account. So now my money is stuck.

Friday - I called to inquire why and I was told they will need to research and will let me know on Tuesday. (Ha.. it takes more than 48 hours to read call logs. Efficient)

Tuesday - late night I called them. The supervisor did not know anything about my conversation on Friday. I am asked to write a letter to the Branch requesting to close my account with my account number, amount address and instructions to mail the balance. So I did that and spent $17 to overnight the stupid letter.

Monday (next week): The letter is returned to me saying I need to get it notarized. NOTE THIS IS ALL THAT IS MENTIONED IN THE LETTER.

Monday night - I called customer service spoke with the supvervisor again to make sure I that is all I need to send. 15 minutes later the guy comes back saying oh you also need to your wife sign the letter AND HAVE HER SIGNATURE NOTARIZED AS WELL(remember none of was mentioned to me till today, If I had followed the instructions on the letter they woudl have rejected that as well.

I am very upset at Citibank
I am very upset at Citibank . They have charged me over $748.00 in overdraft fees within the last 6 weeks. They have poor customer service, speak very rare english. Not helpful in reversing fees. I don't see how they can be going bankrupt, they charge $34.00 on each item, they are making money off us consumers.

No one at Citi is competent to solve any problem
This is simple... for over 1 year I have been frustrated and unable to use my debit card! Through 10 conversations, changes of pins and assurances nothing has changed. Now I have moved, and they will not send new pin codes to my new address because it is not the on-line registered address. No one at Citi is competent to solve any problem as far as I can see. The next step is the financial ombudsman so I can try to get them censured.

closed my account
I, too, got THE LETTER from CITIBANK stating that my interest rate would go up to 29.99%. I opted to keep my current rate AND use my card through the date on it, which was 2011. INSTEAD, Citibank CLOSED my account and is now charging me 24.99%. I nearly had a heart attack when I opened my statement! And, yes, I haven't been late and I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years. Now I have a "closed account" on my credit record, no thanks to Citibank! Isn't that bait & switch and isn't that FRAUD??? We need to get together and file a class action lawsuit against CITIBANK!

Credit Card Issue - Citibank
Dear all,
Im trying to resolve this following issue as I had faith in the citibank officials but it is pending for last 2 years and there is no hope left.
Request you to please go thorough the details and advice what is the best option I can have to resolve this..

thanks in advance...

=====================================================================

A Citibank Salesman met me on March 2008 at my office. After 2-3 discussion which he used to call and arrange I agreed for an Insurance Policy (Birla sunlife) of 25000/- only and signed the insurance documents wherever applicable. For backup he had taken one more signed insurance document. During this meeting he told me to apply also for Citibank credit card. (There was no mention of future pay through this card. Also I had told him I will pay EMI by online Electronic transfer/cheques as I was not satisfied with the Credit card use.) .

Few days later I got a postage mail of BIRLA SUNLIFE saying I have to pay 50000/- .The Policy number is 001584296. I called the salesman for reason of increase of Insurance amount from 25000/- to 50000/-. He said he would work out this issue and call me back.
There was no call back. When I called back salesman was in Nagpur.

At that time the due date for renewal had elapsed.
I met Reporting Manager of Salesman in the Citibank Office. There was understanding between us to resolve this issue and Reporting Manager will come back to me.

Again there was no feedback. I again called both. I was told one more citibank official is working on this. She met me at my office and assured me of solving this and told me to wait for another 15 days.

When the Citibank official called me (as I had complained from the online Citibank account) from Chennai to know the status. I asked them to call after some time. I called citibank official and asked her what the status is and she told me tell them that the issue is being in final stages of resolution. The Citibank Chennai team called me back after some time, I told them that Citibank Pune team is in touch with BIRLA SUNLIFE and is in final stages of resolution. But it was a fake assurance and nothing happened. This I still regret to this day.

In the meantime I cancelled my Credit card and was in touch with her through mails but there was no update on this for next 1 month.

When I called her she said she has left/resigned from the company and (Reporting Manager ) is working on this.
At that time I had finalized a flat and for loan I was getting difficulties as my name was there in CIBIL defaulters list(Which I think is due to negligence of CITIBANK officials) Which was another blow for me.

Somehow with great difficulty and patience I managed to convince the bank officials of this above said whole issue and they approved of my home loan.

Now there was call from Citibank recovery personnel .Here also same hopeless assurance where I have deposited ~9000/- in the hope that it is resolved.

I have called him umpteen times, sent mail but there is no progress.

From my side I was helpful even after knowing the fraudulent practices of bank officials.

What I have observed is that when you need policy you will call customers at anytime to get done but once done there is no call back, updates. They forget the customer.

Customer is helpless and he has to bring all the concerned people in loop to get the work done.

Also if you are out of office you need to delegate your pending, running work to your colleague to get the work done. This didn’t happen with me within the policy elapse time.

Also before Final submission there is no final confirmation of policy details.

Now I feel betrayed by these people. Only my request is that I can’t bear more and I had enough of false promises.

Nightmare
It was a nightmare with my Citibank VISA, they offered me solution to my current balance over the phone and they got me to agree to a bundle package for current balance to be bundled up zero interest staggered payment. They did tell me zero interest but they didn't inform me leaving behind some other charges of the bundle so that would add up to the total monthly I had to pay on a monthly basis. True no more monthly minimum but they caught me having to pay up in bulk amount every month without me knowing that I was actually coerced to pay more than my regular monthly minimum, staggered payment or not. Its obviously extortion activity. I had it canceled but the lady I was talking to said I had to clear off all outstanding balance before they could have the account canceled. EXTORTION.

Inefficiency caused me great trouble
I set up a Citibank account for my parents to transfer money from Singapore over to United States without having to pay any fee. When I first set up the account some time in Sept 2009, the banker told me that there is no need to deposit any money in the bank. More than three months have elapsed and I am still able to access my online account, with no indication that my account has been close.

When I was informed by my school some time in December about the submission of my Spring 2010 tuition fee by Jan 5 2010, I asked my parents to transfer funds to me via the free Global Transfer service, which would enable to receive the funds instantly. However, they were not able to complete the transaction due to reasons unknown, so they went to the bank in Singapore to request them to do it. They were able to deduct the money from my parents' account on the Dec 22.

Many days have passed and I still did not receive the funds, so I went down to the bank to ask why. The people at the bank told me that my bank account has been closed due to inactivity (!). So I asked them to reopen the account and they did, but by then the funds have been sent back to Singapore and received on Dec 28.

My parents then requested them to immediately send it over again via Global Transfer, which enables me to receive it in 1 day. Today is the 5th day (or 6th even, due to time zone difference) and I still have not received any money!!

I am extremely displeased with the service people at Citibank, because they are not helpful at all. When I called to ask how many days the fund will reach me, they told me that since the fund is about 27000 USD there is no way it is transferred through Global Transfer because there is a daily limit of 1000 USD. However, according to their website, that is the outgoing limit, and I am RECEIVING MONEY FROM OVERSEAS and in Singapore the outgoing daily limit is 50000 SGD, which is about 37000 USD.

The person then told me that it is definitely via wire transfer (which will incur a fee), and will reach in 2 to 14 days (!!!), but I have tuition fee due Jan 5, there is no way I can make it! So I called again to ask them to check the status of the fund, whether it is pending or rejected or whatsoever. The person said it is impossible.

Citibank has caused such inconvenience to me. If I am not able to submit the tuition fee on time I will be fined by school and it would be bad.

P.S. Now my parents can use Global Transfer; they just sent me 100 USD as a trial. It is free and instant. I don't understand why they couldn't do it the first time!
