CitiFinancial Reviews

Beware!
I hade been dealing with CitiFinancial for over 1 yr. before my interest rate jumped from 7% to 8%, 9%10.15%. I had started calling them 1 yr before the market plumed and they sent me to a foreclosure seminar I attended they asked for all my info I e-mail, faxed, mailed out all necessary documents asap.

I continuously called them for 9-10months left messages on the gentleman that was in charge of my loan modification. HE NEVER RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS...after continuously calling the customer service department complaining they re-assigned my loan to a new agent she after several phone calls returns my call 11 months later now. She says that she needs more info I faxed it to her... then she said I was approved my payment before my adjusted rate was $1409.86

Jumped with the new loan modification to $1910.86 what a joke that loan mod... I did not agree then she lowered to $1810.50 told her if that was adding taxes and insurance she said not sure let me check. I will get back to you as soon as possible and lowered my down payment from $3600 to $2500 but I was not happy with the monthly amount three days later I received a notice on my door that I was foreclosed and I need to leave in 3 days!

That's where my health issues started with my current blood pressure, marital problems and losing my home I have lived in for 8yrs. CitiFinancial is the biggest f... Joke their is they do not help the consumers but before that I had a great payment history. They only do what is in their favour.

I am still living in the home and have hired an attorney please contact me if anyone had the similar situation and if you have an attorney. I will take them as far as I need to. How the government allows them to get away with this I am unsure?

Overcharged
Unfortunately I was stupid enough to have two loans with this company. Due date for both loans are on the 15th of the month, with a 10 day grace period, after which a late fee is added. I have always made the monthly payment, if there was ever a time I was going to be late I contacted the office and let them know. I have been making payments for several years now, and yet they telephone me every month to remind me to make the payment.

Last month they telephoned my office! I was so irate I yelled at the lady that phone and reminded her that I have always made payments, that I have repeatedly told them to stop calling me, and that I specifically told them not to call me at work. I then talked with the branch manager and told him the same thing. Well guess what, this month rolls around and their calling me again. I have had it.

I am going to work very hard to get these loans paid off and then never deal with this outfit again. I just want the damned telephone calls to stop, how many years do you have to make payments to them for them to know you are a person that makes the payment? I am getting Cauliflower Ear from all the damned phone calls.

Harassment
18005255234 and 18038355600 keeps calling me. Twice a day, everyday. I finally called them back. I asked them to quit calling me. They would not unless I gave my name. I am not giving my name to these people. I just want the harassment to stop.

Awful company
On May 2003 Paula Stitt at the Citifinancial office in Colonie New York contacted my wife Georgianne offering to refinance our home equity loan it was to be 'on us, no closing costs' as part of a customer appreciation campaign. We decided to do the refinancing and had our closing on July 8, 2003. We left thinking it was a done deal.

Then on July 21, 2003 Paula said she couldn't send the mortgage payoff check as she was getting different payoff amounts from Texas. My wife had to call to get the payoff amount, she called three times and got an amount of $114, 457.60 which was mailed out on August 4, 2003 by Paula Stitt, it was mailed overnite UPS. There was a life insurance attached to the mortgage which after we consulted with an attorney advised us not to pay since it was in a class action suit and would be taken care of by the court.

On August 8, 2003 my wife called Citifinancial in Irving, Texas and was told the mortgage was paid in full and we would be getting a overpayment check of $275.16 in 30 days. Then we received a statement from them effective 8/21/03 with a $0 balance $0 payment due, and listed as 'paid out'. On August 27, 2003 Georgianne got a call from Paula Stitt warning her that a Kristina Parker from Texas would be calling her.

When my wife got the call Parker told her that we still owed $10, 867.20 on our old account, she didn't say what it was for just to pay it or they wouldn't release our property. On a call to Texas on 8/29/03 my wife spoke to a Keisha P. who told her that our $275.16 overpayment was going to be applied to our insurance account, and that the issue was going to be turned over to a manager for review, I would like to add that by that time the class action suit had been settled in court and they weren't supposed to get any more payments for the insurance, also we never heard from the manager who was supposed to review the account.

My wife wrote to Parker on September 15, 2003 asking her questions about the money we were told we owed she also asked for copys of documents. She was ignored by Parker, we didn't get a reply to the letter, only more threats. They now had gone to Citi taking legal action. She also wrote to Ofelia Flores in Texas asking questions about our account. These questions were also ignored.

We contacted the NYS Attorney Generals office, NYS Banking Department, FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection. The only help we received was from the Attorney General's office who advised us we should get a lawyer. We also found out the life insurance policy they were trying to collect on was canceled effective August 4, 2003, a few days before Citifinancial in Texas received our payoff check.

On December 3, 2003 we hired attorney Warren Redlich to represent us. He wrote letters asking them to review our records because they had made a mistake, but as with our letters he received no response from them. Then on April 29, 2004 we received foreclosure papers, my wife, son, daughter, and I each got one, then on May 1, 2004 we received three more by mail for my wife, daughter, and myself. Shortly after receiving the foreclosure papers they had the nerve to offer to pay us $250.00 to purchase our deed in lieu of foreclosure.

Our attorney was forced to file a counter suit against them in order to save our home. In the summer of 2004 our attorney got a call from a representative of Citifinancial stating they know something is wrong and they will investigate. Several months later they completed their investigation and dismissed the alleged debt and released our property {we didn't receive the official 'morsfaction ' document until January 2006}.

Going back to the class action suit, which we were part of the class, we were supposed to receive a settlement amount of $2, 137.41, but in a letter dated January 28, 2004 they applied it to our unpaid account, in the letter they had our account number which was our lod mortgage account not the life insurance and we had a statement with a $0 balance. After they cleared up the foreclosure we never got the class action suit money or the overpayment the thieves don't feel they have to return it.

Our counter suit went to the Supreme Court in Albany, NY and when our attorney was two days late with an expert witness affidavit the judge dismissed our case, I would like to add that whenever the attorney representing Citifinancial did where he should have ahd sanctions filed against him the judge refused our attorneys request. We wanted Parker and Flores disposed during depositions instead the judge told our attorney who he could dispose at Citifinancial and had him fly to Texas to question someone who clearly didn't know anything about our case.

We filed with the Court of Appeals in Albany and also were dismissed by that court. Were out probably a total of approx. $5, 000.00, Citifinancial gets to walk away clean as if they did nothing, we don't even get any answers as to why we were put thru 5 years of hell. I really don't know who is worse in this case, Citifinancial or the Supreme and Appeals Courts in New York State.

I've put complaints in on Judge Doyle of the Supreme Court with the Commission on Judicial Conduct and even with the information we sent that was dismissed, I also intend to put in a complaint on the five Appeals judges, but that will also be dismissed as one of the judges i am putting the complaint in on is on the Commission on Judicial Conduct, nothing like a little conflict of interest in NYS.

Unethical business tactics
I have had an auto loan with this company for five years. I have always had the loan on an automatic deduction from my checking account. The final payment was due December 2008. I was out of town for the holiday and returned to find three messages and two letters stating my account was past due? I immediately called to find out what the problem was and why the final payment wasn't taken out of the account as it has been the past five years. I was told if I read my agreement I would have found out they do not take out the final payment? I asked the agent what would provoke such a policy and she went on about deferred payments that could cause a final payment to be $1000? I asked if this was a scam in order to access late fees and additional fees from people in an effort to pay off the debt? She did not even comment. She went on to explain they could take the payment over the phone if I had a debit card. I asked what the fee was to do so and she said $14.95. I told her no way. I would mail in the payment since it would not be more than 30 days past due. I asked her for the pay-off amount and was given an amount different from the original amount she was going to bill my debit card. I was told that was the amount for today. Since I was paying by mail it would be more???? I told her I would mail out the payment first thing in the morning and requested that I be taken off of their mailing list and their calling list that I did not want any future contact with their company. She told me she didn't handle such and gave me a number to call. I was told not to call before making the payment or they would send my account back to collections. I thanked her and hung up. I hope this is the end this madness. I advise those of you seeking a loan to avoid Citifinancial at any cost!!

Breach of contract
The short of it. My wife has had a line of credit with citifinancial for five years for $10, 000.00 . Recently we purchased a house and bills came with it and we were charging but paying other creditors. One charge in particular we wanted to pay off to free up some money, we thought we'd pay off using remaining credit available with Citi. My wife contacted by phone a Citi representative and requested convenience checks which Citi sent four. They thanked her for requesting the checks and advised that she could use them until 04/09 to her limit. My wife took a check and deposited it into her checking account and paid off the other charge account. a week later she received a letter from Citi stating that after reviewing her recent credit report they decided to reduce her credit limit to $8, 500.00. A couple of days later she went in to check her account to ensure our mortgage payment was in place only to find that Citi had revoked the check they sent ( as a non-payment) and our mortgage payment was taken out of our account. Citi reps have been both uncooperative and uncaring in this matter. I find it hard to believe that their failure to do due dilligence allows them to make up the rules as they go along. My wife acted in good faith and after requesting the checks was given them to use. Citi had an opportunity to look at her report again before issuing the checks for use but failed to do so and is in my opinion in breach of their agreement with her. I could see if she did not pay her monthly statements but she does. At the very least they should have honored the check and asked for the money to be paid back in addition to the amount already owed( under the initial $10, 00.These days you would think with banks looking for understanding and bailouts, and people losing their homes, these bankers would be a little more careful and a lot more understanding. Now we have to juggle our motgage payment and other bills because of this. I am pursuing other legal actions and trying possibly to put together a class action suit and or complaint to take to Washington and the media nationwide. If youv'e experienced similar issues please e-mail me. The only way we can hold them to a standard is to unite, fight and educate.

Overcharged
I purchased a refrigerator on a 12 month same-as-cash agreement which was underwritten by CitiFinancial Retail Services. The monthly statements I received from them were for a $15.00 payment which, of course, if I had paid only that amount I would never had paid off the amount owed in 12 months. I tried to pay one-twelfth of the total owed each month, but I missed a due date a few times. Then I would double or triple up on the payment. At the end of the twelve months I had paid Citifinancial $87 dollars over the original amount and they said I still owed another $119 because the late fees of $29.00 on each of the late $15.00 bills were going to trigger the full interest charges at 22.99%. This is outrageous. I have offered to settle the dispute for another $91.96 (the full amount of interest that could have been charged on the original amount). They refused that offer and want the whole amount now due of over $210. These people are unconscionable.

LIED TO
WE GOT BEHIND ON OUR RENTAL MORTGAGE, DUE TO MY HUSBANDS ILLNESS. WE ALWAYS DEALT WITH MIKE FROM CITIFINANCIAL AT POINT PLAZA, BUTLER, PA. AND HE WAS ALWAYS NICE, AND WORKED WITH US TO GET CURRENT. THINGS HAD GOTTEN REALLY BAD, MY HUSBAND WAS ILL WITH PNEUMONIA( HAS EMPHYSEMA) AND COULDN'T WORK FOR 6 MOS. WE RECEIVED A FORECLOSURE NOTICE IN THE MAIL, AND WE WERE TURNED OVER TO ANOTHER BRANCH OF CITIFINANCIAL, AND BARBARA ENNA WAS THE PERSON WHO WORKED WITH US. WE TALKED TO HER, AND SHE TOLD US THAT IF WE AGREED TO A SHORT SALE, THAT WOULD STOP A FORECLOSURE PROCEEDING. WE OBTAINED A REALTOR, AND SIGNED AN AGREEMENT FOR A SHORT SALE. ABOUT A WEEK LATER OUR REALTOR COULD NOT GET HOLD OF BARBARA ENNA, AND CALLED US. AFTER BEING PUT ON HOLD, AND LEFT THERE COUNTLESS TIMES, WE FINALLY GOT THRU TO BARBARA ENNA, BUT WHEN WE ASKED HER WHY WE WERE STILL GETTING FORECLOSURE NOTICES, SHE SAID "WELL YOUR BEING FORECLOSED ON". WE REMINDED HER OF OUR PREVIOUS CALL WHERE SHE SAID A SHORT SALE WILL STOP FORECLOSURE, AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT SHE TOLD US TO FORGET THAT, BECAUSE SHE REALLY DIDN'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO TELL US THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. SHE WORKS IN THE LOSS MITIGATION DEPT. FOR CITIFINANCIAL, AND JUST EXACTLY WHY DID SHE TELL US THAT IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO ??? OK, SO A FEW DAYS PASS AND WE GET A LEGAL NOTICE FROM PHELAN HALLINAN & SCHMEIG LLP, THAT WE ARE BEING SUED IN A CIVIL ACTION MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE SUIT. SO BACK TO BARBARA ENNA WE GO. NOW SHE TELLS US WE ARE TO COME UP WITH $1100.00 BY OCT.26, AND THAT WILL STOP FORECLOSE, BUT WE ARE TO AGREE TO REDO OUR REMAINING 12 YEAR MORTGAGE FOR 30 YRS. NOT GOOD. WE FINALLY HAVE OBTAINED A GOOD LAWYER WHO IS GOING TO LOOK INTO ALL OF THIS FOR US. BUT WHAT THE HECK KIND OF A BUSINESS IS CITIFINANCIAL WHO HIRES PEOPLE LIKE BARBARA ENNA WHO PLAYS WITH FORECLOSURE AS IF IT WERE A JOKE?? THIS IS SERIOUS, WHY TELL US SOMETHING THAT'S NOT TRUE, OR YOU DON'T HAVE THE "AUTHORITY " TO SAY. WHY AREN'T WE TALKING TO THE PARTY WHO HAS THE AUTHORITY TO TELL US WHAT WE REALLY NEEDED TO DO TO STOP THIS MESS??? CITIFINANCIAL WHAT GIVES???? JERK THE LITTLE GUYS AROUND BY THEIR NOSES. OH, AND OUR $57000.00 MORTGAGE HAS TURNED INTO A $65000.00 LAWSUIT. THANKS CITIFINANCIAL . DOES THE WORD CROOK MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU PEOPLE? OH I BETTER BE CAREFUL...I DIDN'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO SAY THAT...

Scam
In early August 2008 we purchased some expensive mattresses, using dealer 0% financing through Citifinancial. As we did not receive any paperwork regarding the financing by mid September, we got nervous. We called the dealer about information, we called Citi, both no luck, Citi did not find any record about our loan. The dealer asked us to wait two more weeks, and then he would make further inquiries. A week later we finally got the paperwork, an account statement and a payment slip. The due date was early October. Before it was due we have sent a check to the address on the account statement, and also added a payment slip.

2 weeks later we realized that the check was not cashed yet. We called Citi on the phone number stated on the account statement (FOR ACCOUNT QUESTIONS CALL…). When giving the agent on the line our account number from the account statement, they said they could not help us; this account number does not exist in their system. It must be from some other Citifinancial activity, they need to transfer us. That’s what they did, but the next agent in the other department said the same thing: not our number, you need to call 1-800-… . Finally I got the number for a local branch that should be able to help us. When I called there, it said that the line is discontinued.

Same evening we received a letter, only a sender address, no name on it. In a way that I can only describe as laughable (I think it was supposed to be funny) we were “reminded” on our payment obligations regarding Citi. It did not contain any names or phone numbers that would have made it easier to get in touch with the originator. The internet enabled us then to find the local branch to the sender address and a phone number. At this branch we were then told that we had the incorrect account number. To make it clear: the number on our account statement and payment coupon was not correct. We were asked to issue another check to make the first payment. We agreed to do that, if we get some kind of information what happened to our first check and why we suddenly have two account numbers. The branch manager called at the phone number stated on our account statement to look into this issue. She got that day as far as we did: we don’t know this (first) account number (and, interpreted, we don’t want to have anything to do with it). She gave us a card with the Citifinancial Customer Service number to call and promised to look further into this issue.

Today we called Citifinancial Customer Service. I can only hope that the way they service their customers is just a little disturbed through the additional pressure of the current bank crisis. It was a really unpleasant call. Partially it was certainly my fault: I was obviously not able to explain clear enough WHY I thought the check did not clear. The agent did not get for a long time that the account number that Citi provided us with is not correct. I asked for two things: a confirmation (in writing, please) that we only have ONE account with them, and a confirmation that the first check we sent in will not be cashed, or, that we will be refunded any fees we will have to pay to cancel the check. The only thing I got out of this was that I should request the refund from my branch (“I mean you can only request it: I don’t want to say with that that they will do that!”) in a voice that told me with every syllable “Please don’t EVER bother me with this crap again”. I can’t believe that someone who is getting paid to take care for the problems of the customers is not even remotely interested in it that the employer sends out kind-of-important information that is just plain wrong. And this is about computer generated letters. That means, there is most probably no “human error” involved. And so the error might actually have happened not only once, but maybe a thousand times that day. Or why should it only have happened once? But no one cares… maybe they care if suddenly nobody pays their bills anymore, because everyone has wrong account numbers.

And now to the best part: let’s contact them by email, tell them you don’t want to be a ping-pong ball between branch and customer service, you just would like to get an answer on your problems. I received an answer, two hours later, by email, telling me (short version): “Our branches don’t have email. Please call your local branch or call our customer service department at 1-800-…”. Now I want to cry. I give up. I will now (silently) protest over the internet. I will never make a credit purchase anymore if Citi is involved. And they will never know why. I don’t think it’s satisfactory to either side. But I guess life is easier for the ignorant.

Unsolicited phone calls
I was at work one day when someone called looking for a co-worker of mine. I told them that the co-worker was busy. When the dude asked what time the person got off, I told him I didn't know.

The conversation should have ended here. The dude on the phone (named Angelo) replies "Come on man. You work with them and you don't know what time they get off?" I replied, "They work in a different area of them, and I'm not their boss!" Angelo replied "Take this number down, " and he rattles off a number. He then demanded that I repeat the number back. I rattled off a random number, and he says "Come on dude! I need you to take a message!" I reply that I am not an answering machine, to which Angelo hangs up on me.

I called back and demanded to speak to his supervisor. She said nothing other than "This will be noted." So I took it upon myself to go speak to the manager of the office. I went and spoke with her. She was being evasive, saying that it was the fault of the person they were looking for that I was caught in the middle. Angelo had a serious attitude with me, and I demanded that he issue me an apology for treating me like he did.

So far, I have received nothing.
