False Advertisement and Ripoff Out of Warranty Work
Bought 2 Eco Drive Watches a little over 5 years ago, Citizen claims that they never need a battery, not at all true! by thier own admission the battery doesn't last for over 10 years and this is not without routine maintenance every 2 years with the purchase of new gaskets and the re-oiling of the movement which has no jewels and is a typical quartz movement. Anyways, 3 months out of warrantu both watches mysteriously stop working within 1 week of each other. I take the watches to the Jewelry Store I bought them from and ask for a new battery. The Dealer tells me there is not a battery in the watch and that it has to be shipped to Citizen for service at a cost to me and they will let me know what it costs when they figure it out. Being who I am I coudn't accept that answer and I did my research, I opened the watches and I found that the watch DOES have a battery and that the battery was dead. This is a special battery but you can order it through a few places on the internet at a cost of $18 - $25 plus shipping. Now, I spent over $500 for both of these watches figuring I never had to buy another battery and when I take it to get replaced I get scammed into sending the watch away under the pretense that the watch is broken. I wonder how many people have been scammed by this and just how much money Citizen is making from people that do not question thier tactics. I have many watches and I don't wear these often, reserved for special occasions and thought to be reliable when the need arises. Don't be snowed into buying one of these, it's now going to cost me another $50 just to get them running again and there's no guarantee as to the "freshness" of the batteries I recieve! They may last 10 years or 2 weeks, may not work from day 1! Spend your money on a quality watch that auto winds and is jeweled, you'll have a watch that lasts you for years as opposed to a fake claim that these watches last forever...I've cut my losses, I will not be buying batteries for these watches, they'll go in the scrap pile...
