Fees are ridiculous and almost impossible to close an acct.
Credit Card--back of statement reads "if full amount paid no incurring interest will be charged." WRONG!!! Once I saw a $0 balance w/ the online payment I wrote a letter to cancel acct. Unfortunately I have to take 1/2 the blame since I did not change my address but thought the acct was done. A few months later when I got the forwarded stmt, I learned that there was $29 in interest still due + $35 late fee. Spoke to them but the refused to drop the late fee. Paid it all and finally figured I was done...nope a few months later I learn I still owe them $1.50. I paid this & it better be done now.
Checking/Overdraft--paid both accts off in person, told them to change address, & close accts. Everything seemed fine for 4 months until I got a stmt in the mail showing they took an automatic loan payment (which I also mailed a check which must have been a day late) out of the checking which had no money so overdraft had kicked in. Ended up paying $70 in fees. When there again in person spoke to mgr who assured me everything was fixed, even had me sign something. Today I rec'd a check stmt w/ an annual fee for overdraft for $30 w/ fees $30.01 . NYS Banking will be receiving a complaint about Citizens and I encourage you all to do the same. They have a form on their website or your local state.
