Incompetent Workers and Horrible Customer Service
I decided to go with Clear Wireless for a cheaper phone and internet service. I made the arrangements on a Friday and by Monday when the equipment arrived, my phone number, which I had had for years with AT&T had been ported over to Clear. By Tuesday (4 days later), the equipment did not work, my deposit was gone, and my phone number was in outerspace, never to be retrived again. The area in which I reside was unable to get a clear signal. Why didn't anyone at Clear know that before they sent the equipment? Technicians are not available to provide this information or the technical support needed to assure that the service they are offering is guaranteed in the areas in which they advertise. After immediately returning the equipment, I was given the runaround trying to get my deposit back. The tragedy in the entire situation is the fact that every time I called Clear, I've had incompetent customer service reps who don't speak English well enough to assist me or understand my problem! When I ask for a supervisor, they would lie and say that there were none available! All of them were rude, had no knowledge of the business or the equipment, they did not know where to route my calls, and would hang up on me one call after the other. Now, almost one month later, I am still fighting with them to get my money back. Whatever you do, please do not sign up with Clear Wireless. The service sucks and the customer service is horrible. They are worse than MetroPCS and I thought MetroPCS was bad.

Trial Service Cancellation
Clear recently opened a store in Brookline, Mass and I decided to give their service a try. Despite assurances by the sales person that service was available in the area where I planned to use it, that turned out not to be the case, so I cancelled the service 2 days later (well within the trial period) and was issued a return shipping authorization by their customer support staff. The equipment went back, was received and I received a credit for the monthly service charge only, but not the equipment (that I purchased). After calling them several times and being told that the credit would show up within a few days, I called my credit card company and requested that the charge be put in dispute. 6 months later, I receive notification that my account has been referred to a collection agency!

Internet Service
Clear wireless internet has been awful in Washington, DC during the last week. It is unacceptable. Tech support tries to be helpful, but they are reading from a script and can't do much except say that there is a problem with the tower. I asked if there was a place I could email Clear and provide Clear with a log of all of the times that I had been kicked off the internet over the last week, including one three hour stint in which I was kicked off 20 times, and several times during which I had no service for hours. Tech Support said there is no email. I asked for a mailing address. Tech Support said there is no mailing address. Instead, they recommended that I go to the online Clear Forum. I don't want other Clear users to fix my problem. I want Clear to do so. Plus, I can't post on a Clear Forum unless I sign-in.
Finally, I asked Tech Support: In what state is Clear incorporated or where is it principal place of business or headquarters?
Tech Support's Response: "Clear has been in the U.S. for 6 to 7 years."
Sigh.
I feel like Clear is Big Brother and I am a helpless consumer.

False Advertising of Service Availability
Clear Wireless shows coverage in Washington, DC on their website www.clear.com. At 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC, there is no coverage even though their own coverage map says there is. Their technical support person told me they have a "different tool" to determine coverage availability and 14th and Pennsylvania is not covered. There only solution? Move to a different corner of the hotel room -- which doesn't work! This is false advertising at its finest and the company should be ashamed not to have coverage even in the heart of our nation's capitol!

Unauthorized charges
Similar to other complaints, Clear continued to bill my credit card for four months after I cancelled my service. Note - I cancelled my service because I moved to an area that Clear confirmed was within their service area, but after I moved, I was no longer able to get a signal. Essentially, I was in a "dead zone" apparently.
I cancelled my service (there was no mention of a re-stocking or cancellation fee), was provided UPS return labels via email which I used to ship the equipment back to clear (one motem and one mobile broadband device).
Clear continued to access my account and bill my credit card four times. I was told first that they would credit my account. I saw another monthly charge and called back and was told they would credit my account, but that they would not waive the 80$ cancellation fee. When I asked to speak with a supervisor and explained that my service no longer worked after my move, they said they would waive the 80$ fee. I called a third time because I still did not receive the refund and they said that they would not refund the 80$ fee because I was told when I cancelled about this fee (which I wasn't) and that they had corrected their mistake of continuing to charge me (what?? You corrected YOUR mistake only after I called to tell you about it!! And again - it was YOUR mistake. My other question - why are you just charging me the 80$ now when I cancelled four months ago - now I've come to believe that they changed their policy last month). After 4 additional phone calls on separate occassions I was told the following stories: we will not waive the 80$ due to non-reciept of the equipment (completely different story), the 80$ fee is part of the terms of agreement regardless if you move and "we cannot control whether you move or not, the 80$ would have been waived if you hadn't moved and the service just stopped working", and lastly, the ticket has been closed and you will not be getting any additional refund, see our website for terms of agreement.
In sum - I am writing to Clear's escalations department and reporting them to BBB. If I don't get my $ back after writing to them - I WILL be going to arbitration.
When I signed up with clear there was no time committment to the contract and I was told there was no cancellation fees. Now (over six months after I cancelled) they have a new policy that was effective April 20, 2011. The new policy is not applicable to my dates of service. Warning - stay away from clear.

Terrible service and not very clear internet
This company needs to go away. I have had this internet now for 2 years. The internet was always of below standard quality. Now I just cancelled my service, was transferred twice for a hard sell and then told I will have a $40 restocking fee. Not worth it!

Poor Everything
First, Clear's advertised coverage area bears no relationship to their actual coverage area. Second, the "coverage" you may get is based on setting your modem up outside a window on the highest point in your home, and even then you'll be lucky to get even minimal coverage. Third, you don't get a 14-day trial period with money-back guarantee if you return the equipment in that period, although they advertise it that way. You get a pro-rated amount back. Their advertising is an out-an-out lie on that point. I spoke with several customer service reps on this. The first told me that the pro-rated portion should be coming as a credit. After 6 weeks, when it didn't appear, I called back and they said it was company policy to pro-rate the return. This is in direct contradiction to their written policy, which states a full return if equipment is returned within 14 days. Stay away from these crooks.

Slow internet speeds, misleading claims
They bragged that in the location in which I was living at the time that I'd get the highest speeds, and expect for a movie to download or stream within 5 minutes... well, the speeds would go anywhere from 45 kbps to 150 kbps. AT&T(which also sucked)would usually range from 200 to 800 kbps. So a movie might download in 10 minutes instead of 2 1/2 hours with Clear. Sometimes a movie can take up to 3 hours to stream with Clear(and that's be generous)while a movie that is 1 GB can take 18 hours.
Avoid their lies like the plague, and though their reps have been nothing but very nice, and even said don't worry about paying til we get you fixed(which never exactly happened.) It's not worth it... I got 2 months free, because the phone through Voip or whatever wouldn't work at 10 or 11 until about 3 a.m. for 2 straight weeks. Then the problem reoccurred, and they claimed that the trees might be interfering with my wireless net. Who knows? So it's not exactly a scam, I just believe that they probably got in over their heads, had no idea how many people would be using it, and neglected to research that if your home is made of brick or you have a very tall tree outside of your window, your service will suck.

Bad Product
I was a customer of Verizon Wireless. The service was awful. I use the wireless for an online trading platform and require constant connectivity. I didn't get it with Verizon. So I decided to try Clear. The service worked for a few days, then 4G wouldn't connect and I was forced to use their shoddy 3G. I could not get the 4G to work at home - in Bellevue. it now doesn't work in my office in downtown Seattle.
My Advice to anyone considering CLEAR is don't sign up. It is a very bad internet service provider.

Product Ineffectives/lying reps
First I bought their so-called 4G network. It didn't work. I called their customer service numerous times. It was always a different excuse. And, I exchanged the product on more than one occasion. However after a while they became repetitious. On about six different occasions they claimed I didn't accept the Terms of Service.
Shortly thereafter I moved, but the lack of service continued. My business requires the use of the internet so I made fixing this a priority 1. After numerous failures they now said the area I was in only used their 3G network, forcing me to go back to Best Buy yet again to switch. Their 3G didn't work either. After numerous phone calls they said a card needed to be mailed to me. SAY WHAT? MAILED TO ME? Finally after hours on the phone I was told a card was waiting for me at a Best Buy which was a long drive. I needed the internet so I made the drive.
Must to my chagrin no card was waiting for me. A Clear rep at Best Buy complained to their Tech Support about their compulsive lying. After a few phone call he handed me a card I was told would work. It didn't.
I finally laid down a deposit on another product which is working just fine. All in all I think Clear is the WORLD'S WORST WIRELESS INTERNET!
