Unethical Business Practice
I ordered from them because they had the best price for the Nikon Nikkor 35mm lens. They had really weird hours and at the time I was ordering from them and they were closed a for a couple of days so it was really hard to get in touch with them. I never got an email confirmation with a tracking number which I thought was weird. I placed the order 3/26/10 and had chose 3 day shipping because it was a gift and I needed it to get there quickly. I was having it shipped to a different address than what my billing address was. Well...6 days later 4/1/10 they call me to verify the address that I was sending it to because it was different from my billing address, which I thought was a valid reason to call so that was fine. However, they had not shipped the order so so much for it getting there on time...they were closed for 3 days that week and that was their excuse...not a good enough one I thought. They told me that the lens that I ordered would not autofocus with the camera that I was buying it for. I had done a lot of research before I bought it and everywhere I read it said that it would so I was like...okay, maybe I was misinformed. They told me that it needed a metal mounting and that it was going to cost $130 more. I really wanted to have the lens as the present for my boyfriend and so I said fine. Well the total ended up being $300. I was skeptical about that so I did some research. I called Nikon and asked them about the "metal mounting" and they said that lens would autofocus with the lens fine and that it doesn't need any mounting. So I called Closeout Island back and told them, I didn't know what kind of lens that the were selling but I talked to a camera store and Nikon themselves and both said that the lens was $200 and that it didn't need any kind of metal mounting. They didn't say anything and I told them I was returning the order as soon as it arrived and I wanted a full refund. They told me there was a re-stocking fee and I told them to shove it and I wasn't paying that and I would dispute it with my bank and report them if they didn't give me my money back or if they charged me a restocking fee. They told me the package was shipped out on 4/7/10 (why it took them that long I don't know) and that it was to arrive on 4/13/10. Well, that day rolls around and my boyfriend still didn't receive the package so I called them and they said that they had re-routed the package and refunded me the money. I checked my bank account online right then and they money had been put in there. Then my boyfriend called me today (4/15/10) and told me that they tried to deliver it but he wasn't home . So I was like what the f***? I do not know what this company has going on but it is messed up. DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM THEM!!!

Bogus camera offering
I placed an order on line for a Nikon digital camera at a very low price. Later, in a phone call to me, a rep told me I should purchase a battery as well because the battery supplied was inadequate. I refused. In a day or so I checked status and found the product was backordered, when formerly it was listed as "available." I called and was informed that the product would not be available for several weeks. So I canceled the order. Two weeks lapsed, and I saw the camera was listed at lower price at the same web site. So I called and asked if it was in stock. The rep said yes, it was, and that I should order online. I did so, and the same process repeated, including the back-order startus, and a second cancellation. I checked your website and saw your reviewers of Closeout Island had similar experiences. I have not yet suffered credit card fraud, but I am monitoring my charges quite closely. I am dismayed about the way Closeout Island conducts business. How can they continue to operate? Has anyone ever received an item that they ordered at the price of the order?

Credit card fraud
I have the same complaint as everyone else about this "company". I am sure that it does not exist. I ordered a camera and entered credit card info online. I recieved an email to confirm and I did. They tried to upsell me and I did not. This past weekend my credit card information was used to purchase multiple items throughout the country online. Fortunatley the credit card co. caught it. The previous two complaints on this complaint board are also from this same weekend with similar shopping sprees happening to them as well. BUYER BEWARE!! When I contacted the company ( after multiple attempts) and explained to them that the credit card had been stolen, they hung up! If the deal sounds too good to be true, then it is.
p.s. - everyones name seems to be Ralph!!! If you call them, you know what I mean!

Credit Card Fraud
Ordered a Nikon D60 camera...price too good to be true, as it was. Bait & switch tactics, and they stole my credit card number and charged around $100.00 at a clothing store in PA.

Scam Artists
These guys are a bunch of scam artist. When you order a camera online they send you an e-mail a couple of days later saying that you need to call and confirm. When you call you are highly pressured into buying extra batteries, lenses, cases and extended warranties. When you refuse the extras then your order goes on backorder. If you click on your order to check the status, the first thing you get is "would you like to cancel this order?" When you cancel your order the theives then use you credit card information to go on a shopping spree at online stores. How nice of them...

Scam Artist
I ordered the T1i from Closeout Island and called to confirm my order. I knew they would try to "sell" me additional accessories. After being on hold over 30+ minutes, Manager Ralph tried to sell me a 5-hour battery stating the Canon battery was good for 15 minutes only. I told him I was only interested in what I had ordered. I was angry with him--and as rude to him as he was to me. I never received my promised email stating when the camera would be shipped. I called Ralph back several days later. Again, I was on hold for 15 minutes. Ralph checked my order number--suprise! my camera is on backorder for 8 weeks. I told him to cancel the order. Thanks for the headsup about this company. I should have known better.

LIARS
I ordered a camera from Closeout Island online. They said they just sold the last one of that model and initially tried to bait/switch me. I declined the offer of a lesser camera and they said it would take 3 weeks for my SLR camera. I have been waiting almost two months and they said it's probably going to be another month because they're are still out of them and waiting for a shipment. Every store I walk into has the camera in stock, granted the price is much cheaper on their site BUT... Since I have ordered the camera from them they have now made it a featured item and lowered the price... Why do this if you are out of them..? BAIT and SWITCH! Don't trust this scandalous company because they try to offer lower prices... In the end you will just waste your time! Hopefully closeoutisland.com can get their act together!

Bait & Switch
Watch out, this place is the classic bait & switch company. I ordered a Nikon DSLR package and they told me the lenses wouldn't auto focus, even though Nikon had confirmed the lenses would work fine. I asked if everything was in stock initially, in which they said yes, then when I wouldn't switch anything in the package or buy any additional batteries or filters, the package was "magically" out of stock the next day when my order was processed. I imagine it will remain their indefinately - 2 follow-up conversations with salesmen and they couldn't even provide me any answers or any estimated delivery date. Thanks for waisting my time Closeout Island!
