I visited my local CO-OP food store last night (13/05/11) to buy some Coca-Cola that was on offer, buy 2 get 2 free. I paid with a £20 note, I only recieved change from a £10 note. It wasn't until I reached the doors of the store that I realised the mistake, the lady that had served me was nowhere to be seen so I raised the issue with another member of staff. I asked him to carry out a till check, and told him the till would be £10 up. If that wasn't enough, I only had two £20's before I went in and the note would be a consecutive serial number as it was from a cash machine. The staff member fussed about a bit, went out back to find a collegue and then returned to me. He informed me that there was no one available to do a till check for me, that if I returned to the store in the morning they would do it then. I have since returned to the store to be told the till was not £10 up and that I must have been mistaken, I know I only had two £20 notes when I went in. Other than make a complaint there is no more I can do, more than enough staff members had time to balance the till. I informed the manager that he should keep an eye on his tills, and that he may have a thief in his employment. I will take my business elsewhere in future.
We would have the book thrown at us for so much as stealing a 50p mars bar, and yet we trust them enough to hand our money over to them.
Lesson leared, check change, shop elsewhere.
