i got a call from a private # but didn't answer. a few seconds later, (949) 812-4689 called and asked me if i wanted to settle an old credit card debt. i told him that i didn't recall the credit card purchase and asked for more details. he immediately transferred me to somebody else who said that they shouldn't have called me because i "haven't been served" to appear in court (the "serving" was supposed to take place the next day). coincidentally, he said i could avoid court and other costs by "volunteering" to settle the case for $1800 prior to getting served. he then put me on hold for a while and came back to say i could settle for $1338.
i still wasn't convinced and said i never received prior notice and he started throwing legal jargon at me. he said he could hook me up with "Dean Perry" who would work with me if i can make the payment within 24 hours. i said i would call him back and immediately researched Dean's phone number (1-949-812-4682) and found a plethora of complaints on this company.
i called the credit card company and they confirmed that i DID have an outstanding balance (my bad) but my account was sold to a different company named NORAM Capital, not Coast Litigation. the amount charged off to bad debt by the credit card company was $690 -- don't know how Coast got to $1300.
i blocked my number and called Dean Perry to inquire about his company and he was totally evasive. he answered my questions with questions of his own and he became extremely rude. right after i hung up on him, my phone rang and he asked for me (creepy!). i told him he had the wrong number.
