Shady business
My husband and I recently went to browse cars to purchase. We went to the Kia dealership to look at the 2010 Kia Soul. Needless to say, we were talked into purchasing a car that day even though the car we wanted to trade in was at home. Today, we bring the car to trade in. They take it for a test drive and come back. They tell us everything is fine and that we can go home. We drive about 10 minutes down the road and we got a called saying something was wrong with our trade in and to come back. We go back to the dealership only to hear that our trade in has a "laundry list of things" wrong with it and it was not worth their time or money to have all the issues figured out and solved. They never gave us a set list of things wrong with the vehicle. After much going back and forth between my husband, who is a mechanic and knows the car inside and out, and THEIR mechanic, who knew nothing about the car we traded in (we were trading a Subaru WRX for a Kia) it was decided that the car was no longer worth $7500 but actually $1500. We left very discouraged. After further talking with the manager of the dealership, it was revealed that they believed the car was not actually a Subaru WRX, but some other car that my husband had made over to look like one, also that the transmission was bad (brand new after market transmission) the engine was blown (however we drove it off the lot) and that the rear differential was blown (which was also new-it had blown before and the car would not MOVE while it was broken). Needless to say, we are very unhappy with our follow-up service and the fact that they were blaming everything that went wrong on us, when in fact they were the ones that offered us money on a trade in, sight unseen, and only asked the question "What shape is your car in?" We were taken advantage of, which we were sure we had avoided. And to add to the fact, his car was running perfectly, until after it was test driven by THREE different people. All of whom claim to have not altered the car, when the radio had obviously been reset due to a disconnected battery that they said they did not do.
