Poor Service
This by far is the worst text book rental company I have ever used. First my account was drafted and I almost had to throw a tantrum to even receive my textbook. Their customer service department refuses to answer the phone, and when they do they give you the run around. I was given bogus shipping dates and did not receive my text until three weeks into my course. And to top it all ofF the text I received was rated in good condition. The book was in very poor shape- tattered casing, highlighting all through the text, and it looked as if it had been water damaged. Upon returning the text they actually tried to charge me list price due to the condition. These people are the worst DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY- THE LOW RATES=POOR SERVICE!!!

Never received book I paid for
I placed my order on 9/28 for a book I needed for school. I received an order confirmation on that same day stating that My order takes 3-7 business days to ship and that I would receive another email when the order was shipped. It is 10/11 and I haven't received a book or email!! My class has already started and I had to go to the book store and purchase this book last minute. I am very dissapointed with this company and want my money refunded ASAP or I will dispute the charge to my credit card. I will be posting horrible reviews about this website and will absolutely not ever recommend them to anyone! I except to receive a response by tomorrow or I will contact the BBB.

horrible customer service
This is by far the worst company I have ever had to deal with. Nobody who works for them seems to be able to do their job correctly. Bad experience as follows:
- I ordered two books for one of my classes on the 19th. My first day of class was the 25th so I knew I was cutting it close. But I got an email saying the books were shipped and they would arrive on the 26th. My first day of class my teacher explained that for one of the books we would need to highlight/write in it. So in other words, I needed to actually purchase and not rent. That's where the problems began.
- I called at 10AM on the 25th to say that I would need to pay the remainder of the price.(The book costs $45 to purchase, I had paid about $20 to rent this book and I wanted to pay the remaining $25 to keep it.) After being on hold for almost 20 minutes a man answered and before I could fully explain my situation he sounded annoyed and told me to just hang up and call back in December when the books were actually due. RUDE.
-I explained that I didn't want to do that because as I read on their site I would end up having to pay $40 to keep my book after the semester in addition to already paying to rent it. No matter what I said to this man he kept repeating "that's all we'll do" in almost a taunting way. I asked for a manager who did exactly what I asked but was, however, almost just as rude and giggled and just said "okay" as I explained the frustration. (Not apologizing whatsoever.)
- On the 28th I had still not received the books. I called UPS and the package was lost. Possibly their fault, or as I read from the other reviews I realize College Book Renters probably didn't address it correctly. Well they are closed on the weekends so I had to wait till Monday after class to call and check.
- Called 10AM, held for 15 minutes, and got a girl who actually seemed helpful! She said they would ship the books right away and they would even use next-day shipping. Later that day I got an email saying they shipped the books and had a UPS confirmation #. I thought it was finally working out!
- BUT I then went back to the book site and saw that they had put both books in the "rent" category. I had to call the next morning (because they close at 3), wait on hold for 15 minutes, and tell them that one of the books was supposed to be purchased not rented. The girl changed the order and I double checked that they had actually sent the books next day. She said yes.
- As of now (the 31st at 3:30PM) I still do not have the books. The UPS tracking number only says that they received billing info and the package has not been given to them to deliver. So tomorrow morning will be another class without my book.
I'd rather pay full price than deal with these idiots. DON'T EVER ORDER FROM THEM.

FAIL - extra stress for college
There motto is "College is Expensive Enough" and it's true that college books are ridiculously expensive. College Book Renter is over $250 cheaper than my college book store and about $100 cheaper than the next cheapest college text book renter store.
I don't know how long they've been in business but any college text book renting store should know and prepare in advance for the college rush. They should know that professors don't list out required books until 2 weeks before a semester. Apparently they FAILED in this department as I've been trying to communicate with them over unreceived books.
I don't think it worth saving a few hundred dollars over the stress this has caused. Listed are the problems I've had with them.
1. Web account does not show when books are sent, unlike their competitor chegg.com that includes tracking info.
2. Their 866 number goes to a full voice mail box.
3. They don't respond to their emails online, instead they had a FaceBook page that HAD a ratings page, which incidentally only had bad reviews from students a week prior to the start of a semester schedule. They've taken down links of their FB page from their website as well as the ratings page from their FB profile. (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1307834812)
4. Surprisingly, CSR contacted me only after posting a bad rating on their FB page. But now that the ratings page is removed, not sure how else to contact these people.
5. Do not ship to the correct address. They fail to understand that a unit # listed is part of the address and should not be left out. For books they don't keep in stock from there warehouse, they out source it to third party service companies. Well they didn't manage to relay the correct shipping address to these third party companies and they themselves didn't ship with the correct address resulting in our mail man thinking we're too dumb to know our own address (the unit address of our condo was left out from each of the shipping packages sent by CBR and their third party sources). The post office shipped back some packages and those had to be reshipped and the others that made it through the mail man was nice enough to leave for us even though he left an unpleasant note asking us to remember our unit number.
6. Three weeks since we ordered our books, we're still missing one book. Week 2 is about to begin.
The only pro was that one of the books they didn't have in stock they refunded the money + shipping of that book right away, like within days of our initial order. Other than that their motto should be "College is stressful enough, what's a little more stress?"
Better service would have helped this situation a lot more. Will not use them ever again and will never recommend them either.
