STAY AWAY!!
What a scam!!! They list almost any textbook for rent at great prices, but they have very few books! They take your money immediately, and then HOPE they can find a 3rd party source to send the book to you at that price! If they cant, you're S.O.O.L. I payed for my rental, then 10 days later (after I emailed them), they sent me an email saying they were refunding me with no explanation. After I finally was able to get a hold of a person on the phone, they told me they way they really operate. So here I am two weeks later, with no book and the refund still hasn't posted to my account.
From my perspective, they put zero importance on the student and 100% importance on profits.
The BBB gives them a C- which is a terrible score, so I'm not the only one.
P.S. I payed for express delivery. How can they offer you this, if they don't even have the book????

Poor customer service
This semester was my first time doing business with this company and it will definitely be my last. I ordered and received 2 of the 3 books according to the company's delivery timeframe. The semester started and after three calls to customer service, the c/s rep stated she would order the book that day (Wednesday) for delivery on Friday. The book never showed up and I was forced to buy the textbook new from my University bookstore for approx. $180 (versus the rental rate of $50). The book finally showed up the following week and I promptly returned it (still waiting on refund, as a matter of fact). I asked customer service to credit my account for the difference of the purchase price and rental price in order to retain my business. They declined and were only willing to refund the rental price. I also filed a complaint on their website and have received no reply (though it states that a reply will be sent in 48 hours). The company is not willing to make amends for issues on their part that end up costing their customers time, money, and stress. A $130 mistake and could not afford to make.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THEM!! I ordered two books. One came rather quickly which was surprising but in the envelope (not even a box) was just the one book, no receipt and no explanation as to where the 2nd book was. I looked online and they had the 2nd book on my order status with "tracking unavailable". I tried to call them and just got a busy signal. I wrote them an email asking where the 2nd book was and I received a response the next day (surprisingly) explaining that THEY NEVER EVEN HAD THE BOOK IN STOCK and were just going to refund my money (it had already been a week since I placed the order & I never was told this until I asked where it was). Now my class has begun and I don''t have the book nor the time to reorder one from an online company since I was never informed that they never had it in stock. I called them again and finally got through on the 4th try and the representative was completely unhelpful, offered no compensation for the inconvenience, and promised that I would receive an email notifying me of my refund that day. Well it has been a couple days now and I have yet to receive that email or a refund. The book I did receive from them is in the poorest condition too, the binding is falling apart and almost every page has writing on it. BEWARE! STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!

My girlfriend ordered our books through this service. just 4 books that said to take about 10 days to get to us. it toook 3 weeks to get to us and they were the wrong books. books for someone in missouri or something...we live in ohio. she called them and explained they said our books would be there the following monday. it took another week after they promised they would be there. and all we got was 1 book. called and called and said the other books were froma third party and that they could not tell us when they would be there. the arrived days later 1 at a time. if i had called them they would have left their jobs with no ass because iw ould have chewed it off. they did not offer me anything for the trouble either. collegebookrenter.com sucks. that was my first time using them and the last.

online textbook rental
If you really need the textbooks you rent, then don't order from collegebookrenter. While the prices are competitive, the quality of service doesn't compare to some of the other companies. While I usually do business w/Chegg.com and have been very happy, I decided to give collegebookrenter a try. I placed my order on January 4. I received an email order confirmation that afternoon and that is as far as the communication went. I never received a shipment notice or the book. On January 12, I contacted customer service to inquire on the book. They said it was no longer available. Asked why I never received notification since they obviously had my email address and she didn't know. Asked when they realized this, and she said usually w/in 2 days of placing the order. Thanks for the notice! Now that this much time has passed and classes have begun I have no chance of renting this book anywhere. Asked when I was going to receive my credit and she said should w/in 3 -4 business days and if I don't, call back. I went out their website & it shows the book is still available for rental so I called them back. The 2nd person shouldn't be answering phones as she was rude and informed me they haven't had time to update their website. Okay, you've known for a week, probably longer, and you continue to let people order a book and charge their card for a book you know is not available. In the future, I'll pay a little more to deal w/a more reputable company.

Horrible Customer Service/Shipping
I rented ONE book from the company, and they are not able to provide me with a tracking number for the book. They said that because they didn't have the book in stock they had to order it from a 3rd party, who does not provide a tracking number. I have dealt with individual sellers on Ebay, as well as MULTIPLE companies, and NEVER have I EVER NOT been provided with a tracking number. FOr a company who uses shipping as their primary means of getting their product to the consumer, I think this is ridiculous. I called four times yesterday and was told they would research it and get back to me, and nobody ever did. Finally, right before they closed, a "supervisor" said that the person who contacts their third-party vendors was gone for the day. Today, I talked to someone else who claimed to be a manager and said that they were not allowed to contact their third party vendors, per policy. I told her I thought the fact that they couldn't provide me with a tracking number for goods I had already paid for was ASININE, and she said, "I am not going to sit here and listen to you curse at me." They're really smart there too. This is the LAST book I need for my MBA, and I should have just stuck with Chegg, but they took away the ability to rent it for less than a semester, and my class is only 5 weeks long. We'll see if I get my book on time, but their customer service is horrible, and their shipping policies are ridiculous for a company who ships ALL of their product.

Scammers
This is a terrible scamming, lying company. I received my book, which not many people do. So that is the only pro. I got to the end of my book. last section and it was missing lots of pages and there was writing in the book (writing does not bother me normally). I had to borrow a book from someone else to complete the chapter. I hand wrote a letter about it and stuck it in the return box. Then I get an email telling me that I have been charged $85 for a damaged book. That is EXACTLY how I received it. Of course did not know until last chapter. She told me that I should have called and they would have sent me a better book. I was on the LAST chapeter. I would not have gotten it in time. She told me the book was sent from a 3rd party company and that I was the frst renter. BS! So she is telling me basically that I am the one that wrote in it and tore the pages out. All she would say is that I should have called. Argued a good 20 mins and the best they would do is return 50% of my $85. I was so pissed I could no longer talk to her. Go with Chegg.com, great company to deal with and they send quality books and fast. Do not get scammed like I was.

Terrible Customer Service
This company is so terrible that if you didn't talk to them on the phone so that you could realize how clueless they all are, you would think they were trying to scam you! I ordered 8 text books from them, i got confirmation of shipment of 3 of them, 7 books made it to my house, 4 of them had tracking numbers!
I emailed them and called them desperate to get my book on time (i ordered 2 day delivery, it took 5 days to get to my house, i live in NY) no one returned my emails or phone messages for two days! Final someone called me at 9:30 pm while i was asleep to talk to me about not getting my book. I explained the situation and the woman on the phone told me she would send out the missing book for overnight delivery, i was pleased. The next day i get an email from someone else in customer service asking me all the same questions as the woman i spoke to the night before, except this time she never answered me back.
So here i am now, i had to take off half a day from work so that i can spend 45 minutes on hold and finally they gave me a refund for the 1 book that i didn't get.
This is the first time i have ever been on a forum, and this is my first time posting something. Dealing with Collegebookrenter.com was an absolute nightmare.

bad service
I ordered books for my daughter and never seemed to get an invoice, contract or terms of the agreement for the rental and consequently never received the books, although my credit card was charged immediately. I too called the company tele. number which is manned by an automated answering system that just keeps threading calls around and around. I never spoke to a live person after spending the better part of the morning trying to reach them. They d offer an email message form but it too is not set up correctly and so the form is not deliverable. I decided to call the BBB and they informed me that the company, which lists its address as being in Murray, KY, is actually in North Carolina. Apparently there are other complaints on file about the company and so I decided to file complaints with the Attorneys General in both KY and NC. Its asshame that people are now taking advantage of the population of parents, students and caregivers who are just trying to get the books they need at a savings because as the recession deepens money is too precious to waste. If there are any seniors (55 & older) that have used this service in an attempt to help their grand children or other family members and you too have been wronged, please file a complaint with the BBB or AG. Likewise, if there are any returning veterans that have had customer service problems with collegebookrenter.com, make your situation known. Seniors and Veterans seem to get a serious response from the consumer protection services and perhaps your complaint will be the one that launches an investigation of this company.

deceiving emails, bad service
Never again will I use collegebookrenter.com!! I tried using it because it was cheaper than other websites, believe me, I wouldve much rather paid full price for the book instead. I ordered a book on Monday and paid extra for next day delivery. They sent me an email stating 'your book has been shipped', however, I didnt receive the textbook until Wednesday mid-day. I called their customer service but they were of absolutely no help!!
My advice, use chegg.com instead !!
