Substandard workmanship
A complaint has been filed with the Florida BBB re:#67196958. Collins Construction contracted to replace and rebuild a 42'x16' wooden deck at complaintant's home on 07/2010. Upon cursory inspection the full payment was made. Upon the seasonal weather change in south florida, it was noted that the ends of the 2"x6" pressure treated pine planks were starting to warp upwards, a closer "down on our knees" inspection revealed construction flaws all over. 1)The worker using the power 'nailer' had missed 20-25% of the underlying foundation boards; 2) Foundation framework in several key areas had not even been laid; 3) The contractor (Collins) told us that colored (blue) water marks on the new planks would fade in a few weeks--this is after we questioned why they did not flip the planks over to hide these marks---After 7 months they are still visible after several bleachs by homeowner. 5) The breachs in workmanship in points 1) & 2) above are extremely serious since major portions of the deck will have to be disassembled creating a new wood/ old wood affect that will never be corrected unless the deck is sanded, resealed and stained to achieve a uniform color, staining was not our original intent or desire. Collins did finally answer his phone 3 times and said he would come over---he never showed. We used different cell phone numbers so as not to alert him. Collins may be doing business in North Carolina, he eluded to a summer home in the mountains there. Collins enjoys flashing a picture of a deck that he said he did for the "TODAY" show weather man, Willard Scott, down in South Florida. We are saddened that this project took this turn and hope this is a warning to those that will deal with Collins in the future.
